Chapter 216 You're my brother's wife, right?

Chapter 216 You're my brother's wife, right?

Yang Han's voice could be faintly heard from outside. Compared to Xue Ling's sadness, he seemed much calmer.

Qiao Xing glanced at Xue Ling, who had probably heard it too, which is why she cried even harder.

It was as if everything she did was a joke, incredibly ironic.

Qiao Xing raised her hand, patted her shoulder, and said softly, "Don't cry, Auntie is sleeping."

"She hasn't slept a wink for a day and a night to take care of you, so don't wake her up."

Xue Ling paused, turned her head to look at Qiao Yi on the sofa, bit her lip, and began to sob softly.

Qiao Xing leaned forward, hugged Xue Ling, patted her back, and sighed silently, but didn't know what to say.

She had already said everything she could say.

Although Xue Ling cried very softly, it still disturbed the sleeping Joey.

Joey opened her eyes, looked over, and saw that Xue Ling had woken up; her eyes also reddened.

He stood up from the sofa and slowly walked over.

Xue Ling looked up and saw Qiao Yi's complicated expression, which made her feel extremely guilty.

Joey raised his hand, and Xue Ling instinctively shrank her neck, not dodging, ready to receive Joey's slap.

But instead of the expected slap, a gentle caress came.

Xue Ling opened her eyes, tears still clinging to her eyelashes, glistening in her eyes under the light.

"Silly child," Joey choked out, pulling Xue Ling into a tight embrace. "Please don't do this again, okay?"

Xue Ling closed her eyes, tears welling up again, and she gave a hoarse "hmm" in Qiao Yi's arms.

Qiao Xing stood aside, watching the mother and daughter embrace, her expression momentarily dazed.

Suddenly, I remembered that a long time ago, someone had hugged her like this.

Unfortunately, those memories are too distant, so distant that only a vague outline remains, and no matter how hard I try to recall them, I can't remember them.

She silently withdrew and closed the door, her heart still heavy, unsure whether it was because of Xue Ling's unrequited love or because of Qiao Yi's affection for Xue Ling.

Seeing her dejected look, Yang Han couldn't help but ask, "Has Xue Ling woken up?"

Qiao Xing snapped out of her reverie and nodded: "Mm."

Yang Han's expression also turned serious. He glanced at Qin Ce, hesitating whether to go in.

Qin Ce said, "You'd better not go in now."

"Why?"

"Since we want to end her hopes, we shouldn't give her any more. Let's wait until she's better before making any decisions."

Qin Ce's words were a revelation to Yang Han, and he nodded in agreement: "You're right, then I won't go in."

As he spoke, he sighed helplessly again.

"I really don't understand, after all these years, how did she fall for me?"

If it were any other female fan, he might feel a little smug, but since this person is Xue Ling, he only feels a headache when he thinks about it.

"Then I'll be going now." Yang Han stood up and glanced at Qiao Xing again. "You two shouldn't stay here either. Go back to sleep early. You don't have to go to work, right?"

After saying that, he ignored the two of them and turned to walk towards the elevator.

After he left, Qiao Xing and Qin Ce exchanged a glance.

Just as Qiao Xing was about to speak, he suddenly heard someone call out again, "Brother."

Qin Ce's expression changed visibly; his face tightened as he stared up at the newcomer.

Qiao Xing also turned her head and looked over. It was the same person she had seen in the taxi that day, him and Shi Yi together.

She had always thought the two were a couple, but after meeting Shi Yi, she realized they weren't.

This person looked about five-tenths like Qin Ce, except that he seemed more sunny and gentle, with less of the coldness in his eyes than Qin Ce.

She was sizing up Qin Yi, and Qin Yi was looking at her too.

After a while, Qin Yi stopped in front of her, hesitated for a long time, and then said, "You're my brother's wife, right?"

Qiao Xing snapped out of her daze and quickly stood up to greet him, "Hello, my name is Qiao Xing."

Qin Yi looked at her again for a moment, then nodded and said, "Hello, I..."

Before he could finish speaking, he heard Qin Ce cough forcefully several times beside him.

Their conversation abruptly ended, and they both turned to look at Qin Ce.

"What’s wrong with you?"

Are you alright, bro?

Qin Ce pressed his fist against his lips, coughed twice, and frowned, saying, "I probably caught a cold from the wind during the day."

Qiao Xing said with a worried look, "Then let's go see a doctor. He's still in the hospital right now."

Qin Ce nodded and stood up. "You're coming with me."

Qiao Xing didn't think much of it, "Okay, then..."

Qiao Xing still doesn't know his brother's name.

Qin Ce then said, "Xiao Yuan, I'm leaving this to you."

Qin Yi's expression turned unnatural when he was suddenly called by his nickname; it had been so many years since anyone had called him by that name.

"Oh, I understand," Qin Yi replied awkwardly.

Qin Ce grabbed Qiao Xing's hand and left without stopping.

The two went to the emergency room, registered, and went to the examination room for their consultation.

The doctor asked him, "What's wrong?"

Qin Ce casually made up a story: "My throat is itchy, I'm coughing."

Do you have a headache or dizziness?

"A little."

"Your throat is just itchy, does it hurt?"

"A little."

"You've probably caught a cold. Let's give you an IV drip and some medicine; it'll help you recover faster."

"...No need, just prescribe some medicine for me."

Qiao Xing stood to the side, somewhat surprised. Why didn't he say he had a cold?

He insisted on not receiving an IV drip, and the doctor didn't insist either, so he prescribed some medicine.

Qiao Xing snatched the order and said, "I'll go, you stay here and rest."

Qin Ce opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, she had already run out.

He sighed helplessly.

Soon, Qiao Xing went to get the medicine, and when she returned, Qin Ce was already waiting for her outside.

"I got you your medicine. Go get some hot water and have some first."

"We can eat it when we get back," Qin Ce said. "Let's go back first, I'm a little sleepy."

"Okay, why didn't you say you had a cold sooner? You were just sitting here with me in the hallway." Qiao Xing complained, thinking how little this person cared about his health.

She remembered the time Yang Han told her he ended up in the hospital after eating hot pot, and he still hadn't told her she couldn't eat spicy food.

"Are you sick enough to drive? Or should we take a taxi?"

Qin Ce had already taken out his keys from his pocket and unlocked the car. "It's nothing, just a cold, not a terminal illness."

Qiao Xing found this amusing: "You didn't say that when I had a cold last time. How come it's just a cold for you?"

Qin Ce opened the car door and pushed her inside, saying, "This is different. You have a fever, and my immune system is stronger than yours."

Qiao Xing twitched the corner of her mouth, not wanting to refute his fallacious reasoning.

He got into the car and drove straight away.

Qiao Xing then remembered the man from earlier. "By the way, is your younger brother named Qin Yuan?"

Qiao Xing remembered that he had a younger brother who lived with their father, but she hadn't seen him in all the days he'd been here.

Qin Ce suddenly didn't know how to respond.
