Chapter 23: Not a good match at all
Qiao Xing breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that he wasn't angry. She sat down on the sofa and said, "Didn't I tell you before that I wanted to buy my uncle's house? But we were still short 100,000 yuan, so I thought I would take out a loan, but I could only get this much."
"You really want that house that much?"
Qiao Xing nodded. "Besides the fact that it's the house my grandmother left behind, I also want to have my own home. I can't afford a house in the city, but an old house is nice too."
Like this time, if she hasn't come to her senses and marries Lin Yu, and they argue or get divorced, once her uncle's house is sold, she won't even have anywhere to go.
Including the future with Qin Ce, she knew Qin Ce had no feelings for her, so if they got divorced in the future, at least she would have a place to live.
Qin Ce stared at her intently, remaining silent for a moment.
Qiao Xing picked up the contract and said to him, "Although you're not required to repay this money, the money I repay is considered joint property of the couple. If you're unhappy about that..."
She couldn't think of a good solution right away, so she said, "If you have any conditions, you can name them, and I will try my best to do them if I can."
"Anything is fine?"
Qiao Xing nodded. "Mm."
She stared nervously at Qin Ce, hoping he wouldn't make any unreasonable demands.
Qin Ce remained silent for a while before saying, "I don't want to eat eggs this morning."
"Huh?" Qiao Xing was stunned. These were conditions?
Qin Ce repeated, "I don't like eggs. Don't boil eggs for breakfast, and don't add celery or cilantro when cooking."
"..."
"Is that all?"
Qin Ce opened his hands and pondered for a moment, then said, "I'll add more later if I think of anything else."
Qiao Xing stared at him blankly for a long time, unable to say anything for a moment.
After a while, Qin Ce asked, "What's the problem?"
Qiao Xing hurriedly shook his head, "No, no problem. If you have business to attend to, I'll head back now."
She stood up, picked up all her belongings, and prepared to leave, but Qin Ce also stood up. "Let's go together."
"Huh? Didn't you come here on business?" Qiao Xing asked, puzzled.
Qin Ce glanced down at his watch and said seriously, "He's late, we're not waiting for him."
"..."
Qiao Xing didn't know what to say. She followed Qin Ce out of the coffee shop and got into his Mercedes.
This was the first time Qiao Xing had ridden in his car since they got married. His car looked quite new and had a faint, pleasant fragrance inside.
After returning home, Wang Ye and the others were dressed neatly and were about to go out.
Upon seeing the two return, Auntie immediately greeted them with a smile, "You two are back! Perfect timing, we're going to see Lily's parents, why don't you come along?"
Qiao Xing was slightly taken aback. "Isn't this inappropriate?"
“What’s wrong with that? Xiao Ce has a car, right? Let’s ride in his car and save ourselves the trouble of taking a taxi.”
So that's what he was planning. Qiao Xing looked at Qin Ce with a troubled expression, knowing that Qin Ce didn't like those kinds of occasions.
“But Auntie, his car can’t fit so many people.”
Auntie laughed and said, "That's true. How about we borrow your car? Your cousin can drive, and he can take us there."
After all that talk, all I wanted was to borrow the car. Lily was saying how amazing her parents were, and how embarrassing it would be for them to have to take a taxi to meet their in-laws.
“This…” Qiao Xing couldn’t make that decision, so she chose to remain silent.
Wang Ye walked over to Qin Ce and said, "Can I borrow your car for a bit? I'll fill it up with gas for you later, okay?"
Qin Ce glanced at Wang Ye, then took out the keys from his pocket and tossed them to him.
"Wow... a Mercedes?" Wang Ye was stunned. He thought it was at most a car worth a few hundred thousand yuan.
"I bought it with a loan," Qin Ce said before going inside.
Seeing how nonchalant he seemed, Qiao Xing still reminded Wang Ye to drive slowly, lest he bump into something and cause trouble later.
Although she was close to her uncle's family, Qin Ce was not familiar with them, and their marriage was just a transaction.
"Don't worry, I'm leaving now. Thanks, Qin Ce."
My aunt took the car, and the whole family happily went out. Now they would feel more respectable to drive the car there.
Qiao Xing entered the house and said to Qin Ce, "Thank you."
Why thank me?
Qiao Xing smiled and said, "Thank you for lending my cousin the car."
Otherwise, she would be caught in the middle and put in a difficult position. If Qin Ce didn't lend her the car, her aunt would say that she had lived in their house for so long and couldn't even lend them the car to drive.
Qin Ce didn't say anything, took out his notebook, and continued working.
Qiao Xing went out to buy groceries and cook. She remembered that Qin Ce didn't like cilantro and celery, so she added these two vegetables to her blacklist and ignored them when buying them.
That evening, only she, Qin Ce, and Grandpa Qin ate dinner.
Grandpa Qin, who loves gossip, suddenly brought up the topic of Lily and said, "I think Lily and Wang Ye are not a good match at all."
Qiao Xing paused in his eating. "Grandpa, why do you say that?"
Grandpa Qin gave Qiao Xing a mysterious look and said, "Grandpa has met more people than you've eaten meals. I can tell what kind of person someone is at a glance."
Upon hearing this, Qin Ce suddenly glanced at Qiao Xing. Was he good at judging people?
Qiao Xing didn't notice his actions and asked, "So, what kind of person does Grandpa think Lily is?"
Grandpa Qin just pursed his lips and didn't say anything, his disdain was obvious.
Qiao Xing didn't quite understand. She felt that Lily was well-educated and came from a good family, more than a match for Wang Ye. How could she not be a good match?
Could it be that Grandpa meant Wang Ye wasn't good enough for Lily?
That should be the case. Actually, Qiao Xing also had that feeling. However, when it comes to feelings, no one can say for sure. External conditions cannot completely determine the feelings between two people. The most important thing is that the two people get along well and genuinely like each other.
Qiao Xing's current thought is to get Lily and Wang Ye married as soon as possible, and then move their family to the city so they won't make such a commotion at night anymore.
Otherwise, it would interfere too much with her rest and work.
But the thought of the remaining money gave her a headache.
Around 10 p.m., Qiao Xing received a transfer message from Lin Yu, with the note "payment back".
She sent a screenshot of the message to Lu Yan, and only after he said there was no problem did she feel completely relieved.
Qin Ce noticed that she was constantly chatting on her phone, and he found himself unable to type any more.
He suddenly asked, "Why haven't your cousins come back yet?"
Qiao Xing glanced at the time; it was almost eleven o'clock. "They're probably talking about the wedding, so they'll be a little late. You need the car tomorrow, right? I'll call them if they're not back by then."
Qin Ce pursed his lips and said nothing more.
When it was 11:30, Qiao Xing saw that they hadn't returned and was about to call Wang Ye to ask when Wang Ye called first.
Qiao Xing answered the phone quickly.
Wang Ye's urgent voice came through, "Cousin, we're doomed, we've had a car crash!"
