Chapter 301 Returning Home
They drove two cars. Steele drove with her two daughters and Qin Yi, while Qin Ce drove with Qiao Xing and Joey.
In the car, Joey held Qiao Xing's hand and asked, "Xingxing, how long are you planning to stay this time?"
Qiao Xing thought for a moment. She only had twelve days of vacation. She had spent seven days in Paris before, so now she only had five days left.
"Four days, I guess."
Joey frowned, clearly displeased. "You've come all this way just to play for four days?"
Qiao Xing nodded: "Because I have to go to work."
"Take a day off. Why go to work? It's not like you'll get paid much for a day's work."
Qiao Xing chuckled awkwardly, unsure how to respond, so she simply passed the buck to Qin Ce, saying, "Let him arrange it."
Joey glanced at Qin Ce, "Ce Ce."
Qin Ce said, "Let's see how things go. She might not be used to living here."
Joey glared at him, pretending to be angry.
In Steele's car, Qin Yi sat in the passenger seat, while the two girls in the back whispered something to each other, which he couldn't understand.
But Steele didn't embarrass him; he talked to him all the way about Provence, telling him what was fun and what was delicious.
He showed no resentment whatsoever because he was his wife's ex-husband's son, and was very enthusiastic, like a long-lost friend.
Qin Yi was initially a little reserved, but with Steele's encouragement, he gradually relaxed.
They lived in Nij. After arriving, Qiao Xing looked at the rows of detached villas and finally felt the romance and tranquility that belonged to France.
The scenery and air quality are both great, but there aren't many people.
"We've arrived." Qin Ce parked the car at the entrance, opened the door, and got out to collect his luggage.
Steele wanted to get the local specialties from the trunk, so Qin Yi stopped him and took the luggage out himself.
Joey said, "We're very casual at home, so please don't be shy. Just relax and make yourselves at home. Of course, we won't be polite to you either."
Qiao Xing nodded, "Okay, Auntie."
Steele waved to them, gesturing for them to hurry inside, "Kids! We're home!"
Joey took Qiao Xing's arm. "Come on, let's go inside first."
Qin Ce and Qin Yi carried several large boxes inside. When Joey saw how many boxes they had, she thought they were going to stay for several months.
As a result, they only stayed for a few days.
Steele couldn't wait to ask for opinions on opening the box as soon as he went in, which showed that he really wanted to see the local specialties.
He squatted down, unzipped the box, and the moment he opened it, a complex mix of smells rushed out.
Oh my god...
He was so frightened he almost jumped up, took several steps back, pointed at the box, and said tremblingly, "Biological weapon?"
Joey burst into laughter at his reaction.
"Don't you really like our country's specialties? Hahaha..."
Steele was clearly not the type to fake it, and instead of forcing a compliment, he looked at the suitcase with an incredulous expression.
"Good heavens, this taste is so strange."
"This thing is strange, but it tastes amazing!"
"Oh? Really?"
Joey casually picked up a bag of cured meat. "Of course, you've probably had this before, right?"
Steele studied the food for a while, then seemed to remember eating it before. He immediately beamed with joy, "Yes, I remember now. Shall we have some local specialties for lunch?"
"sure."
Qiao Xing was extremely nervous just now, but seeing the reactions of the two people, she breathed a slight sigh of relief.
I thought Steele didn't like these things.
At noon, Joey took out the local specialties and cooked them. They smelled so good that the aroma even masked the scent of perfume.
The entire villa was filled with the aroma of cured meat.
After Xue Ling returned, she became much quieter and hardly spoke.
Xueya, on the other hand, was more interested in the little things Qiao Xing had brought, and she was studying a bunch of them on the sofa.
The three men were chatting in the courtyard, talking about something I couldn't tell.
With nothing else to do, Qiao Xing went to the kitchen to help Qiao Yi cook.
When these things were served, Steele couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
Qiao Xing originally wanted to bring out chopsticks, but Qiao Yi's family already had chopsticks, so the chopsticks Qiao Xing bought have not been used yet.
After dinner, Joey took her and Qin Yi for a walk outside, introducing the surroundings to Qiao Xing. There wasn't much to do there, and it was getting late in the afternoon, so if they drove there, they would come back very late.
Therefore, Joey told Joey to go to bed early that night, and that he would take her to Avignon the next day.
But just as Qiao Xing lay down on the bed, Qin Ce received a phone call.
The old man was hospitalized.
Upon hearing this news, Qiao Xing lost all interest in playing and pulled Qin Ce aside to ask what to do.
Qin Ce glanced at the time and said, "It's too late now. Let's take the early morning flight back tomorrow."
Did they say why the patient was hospitalized?
"He went to the square to celebrate the New Year, caught a cold, and fell ill." Qin Ce frowned, his tone somewhat unfriendly.
"ah……"
Qiao Xing never dreamed that this was the reason. Although colds and fevers are common illnesses, for someone of the old man's age, getting sick is no joke.
Is it serious?
"I don't know, I'll find out when I get back tomorrow, don't worry."
Qiao Xing nodded, but she couldn't fall asleep.
Similarly, Qin Ce couldn't sleep either.
He wasn't sure if the old man went to celebrate the New Year out of spite or if he was instigated by Shi Yi, but in any case, it was indirectly related to his trip abroad.
Before dawn the next day, the three of them packed their things and prepared to go back.
Joey wanted them to stay a few more days, but the old man was ill and there was nothing she could do, so they had to go back.
The family saw Qiao Xing and her two companions off at the airport. After a reluctant farewell, Qiao Xing finally boarded the plane back to China.
We arrived in Chongqing at around 10 a.m.
They went straight to the hospital after leaving the airport, without even putting down their luggage.
The hospital was unusually quiet at this time, just after the Lunar New Year two days ago, with hardly anyone to be seen.
When Qin Ce arrived at the old man's ward, he pushed open the door and saw the old man sitting on the edge of the bed, with Shi Yi beside him bringing him water and medicine.
Hearing the noise, the old man looked up towards the door.
The three of them stood at the door, looking travel-worn, while inside was a stranger—a scene that seemed somewhat ironic.
Qiao Xing went in first, came to the bedside, and asked worriedly, "Grandpa, are you alright?"
"What could possibly happen? It's just a minor cold, it won't kill you. Aren't you all abroad? Why did you come back?" The old man's voice sounded quite normal, and Qiao Xing breathed a sigh of relief.
"We heard you were hospitalized and came back because we were worried about you," Qiao Xing said, standing beside him, feeling a little guilty.
She went out to play, leaving the old man at home, which made him fall ill.
A doctor came over to the ward and, seeing so many people, asked, "Which of you are family members?"
Qin Yi said, "We all are."
"Come out for a moment, don't disturb the patient's rest." The doctor clearly had something to say.
