Chapter 339: Sounds like a cultured person
Now it was the old man's turn to be stunned. He looked at Qiao Xing, hesitating several times as if he wanted to say something but then stopped.
Just then, he saw Qin Ce returning with groceries, and he quickly changed his target, "Then you talk to him. If he agrees, I, the old man, will definitely have no objection."
Qiao Xing also turned to look at Qin Ce, who had bought a lot of groceries and was changing his shoes.
After Qin Ce changed his shoes, he turned around and saw the two of them staring at him. A look of confusion flashed in his eyes.
"What's wrong?"
Qiao Xing hesitated for a moment, then repeated what she had just said to him.
“What do you think about us going back to Grandpa’s hometown with him? Grandpa is getting old, and it will definitely be inconvenient for him to go back alone.”
Qin Ce paused for a moment, then shifted his gaze to the old man's face.
The old man kept his eyes down, pretending not to see his gaze.
"I'll go cook first," Qin Ce said, then took the groceries to the kitchen.
Qiao Xing could tell he seemed a little unwilling, so she turned back and exchanged a glance with the old man.
"See? You should talk to him properly. But it's fine for Grandpa to go back by himself. With today's advanced transportation, it's only a two-hour flight."
Qiao Xing did not speak.
She was worried that Grandpa Qin's legs were not very mobile, and that too much exertion would be bad for his health. She was also concerned that if something happened to him on the way, there would be no one to take care of him.
What she could think of, Qin Ce could probably think of too.
But why is Qin Ce so calm? He can't possibly be completely indifferent to the old man, can he?
Qiao Xing couldn't figure it out no matter how much she thought about it, so she could only discuss it with him again when they went to bed that night.
She turned on the TV and watched it with the old man for a while.
After Qin Ce finished cooking and brought out the food, she helped the old man to the dining room.
The dinner table was silent and quiet, even a little eerie.
Knowing that the old man was about to leave, Qin Ce didn't say a word or make any gesture.
After finishing the meal, Qin Ce was going to take the old man home.
He returned the notebook to Qiao Xing.
Qiao Xing took her laptop back to her bedroom, opened the document, and continued reading.
Qin Ce took the old man back to the residential area. His door was open, and He Fen was looking out from the doorway.
Seeing the two of them arrive, He Fen immediately went up to greet them, "Oh, my dear in-laws, you're back! Are you packing your things to leave?"
Standing at the door, you can see the bodyguards inside packing their things. If you didn't know better, you'd think they were moving.
However, this was also intentional on the old man's part, making them pack up all their things, not even a single needle could be left behind.
The old man has lived here for twenty years, so you can imagine how much stuff he has. These people have been cleaning up since this morning.
He's already had a meal and is back, but he hasn't finished unpacking.
The old man smiled at He Fen and said, "Yes, after living here for so many years, it's time for me to leave."
He Fen glanced at Qin Ce again, "What about Xiao Ce? Is Xiao Ce leaving too?"
"Why would he leave? My dear in-laws, thank you so much for taking care of us all these years," the old man said with a smile.
Although it was just a polite remark, He Fen was still very happy, and she seized the opportunity to say, "Oh, look at what you're saying. We're neighbors, and now we're relatives. Isn't it only right that we look after each other?"
The old man chuckled dryly, unable to find a response to He Fen's shamelessness.
Old Zheng checked the room to make sure there wasn't a single needle left before he went to the door and bowed to the old man.
"Master, everything is packed. When shall we depart?"
The old man glanced at the room, which was crammed full, leaving no room to even step. He glared angrily at Old Zheng.
"You've overturned the bed, when are you telling me I'm leaving? If I don't leave, I'll sleep in the hallway?"
Old Zheng said, "There's a bed in the next room. If you think it's too late today, you can set off early tomorrow morning."
He Fen laughed from the side, "You Beijingers really do speak differently, you sound like cultured people."
Unfortunately, no one paid any attention to her.
The old man was so angry with Old Zheng that he grabbed his cane and went downstairs again.
Old Zheng instructed everyone to start moving things.
Qin Ce stood aside and watched them carry the items out one by one.
He Fen sighed beside him, "Sigh, after being neighbors for so many years, it's really hard to see you go all of a sudden."
Qin Ce glanced at her.
He Fen immediately put on a smile, "Nephew-in-law, um, there's something I need to ask you?"
"What's up?"
"Well, now that the New Year is over, Lao Wang and I were planning to go back to work, but we're getting old, and it's too tiring to be out there all the time."
"Look, does your company need any cleaners or security guards? We can do some work."
Qin Ce frowned. "A cleaner?"
"Yes, yes, we're all this age, and we don't have much education. We can't do anything else except manual labor."
Qin Ce thought for a moment and said, "You can go apply directly; you don't need to tell me."
"Oh, I already went there, but they wouldn't even let me in. They asked me for some kind of cleaning certificate, but I don't have one. That's why I came to you."
Seeing that he was unmoved, He Fen said again, "Xiao Ce, please make an exception for Xingxing's sake. I'm just as good at my job."
"For her sake? Have you forgotten everything you did before? How much face do you think you still have with her?"
My aunt choked for a moment, then gave a sheepish laugh, "Isn't that all in the past?"
“I’ve already apologized to you. Besides, Xingxing doesn’t have any other relatives. I will definitely build a good relationship with her in the future and treat her like my own daughter.”
"You wouldn't want Xingxing to have no family members by her side, would you?"
Qin Ce stared straight at her.
He Fen believed that she had performed quite well these past few days.
Qin Ce pondered for a long time before speaking, "I can let you go, but can you guarantee that you will work diligently, follow instructions, and not use my name to slack off in the company?"
He Fen's face lit up with joy, and she nodded repeatedly, "Of course, I promised you I wouldn't tell anyone your identity. Don't worry, as long as I go to work, I'll act like I don't know you."
"I just want to find a stable job, stay in Chongqing peacefully, and take care of my grandson at home after Xiaoye has a baby. I don't have any other big ambitions."
He Fen spoke with such sincerity that Qin Ce couldn't help but glance at her a few more times.
After a while, Qin Ce said, "Okay, I agree to let you go, but if I find out that you have any opportunistic intentions, you should leave immediately."
"Okay, okay, no problem at all!" He Fen was overjoyed.
She had inquired about it; she knew that working as a cleaner at Qin Ce's company earned her a salary of over seven thousand a month.
Such a leisurely job with such a high salary is much better than her miserable and arduous work of carrying bricks on a construction site.
You only make 5,000 a month carrying bricks on a construction site, working yourself to the bone.
The gatekeeper's salary is even higher, with some subsidies and such, averaging nine to ten thousand a month.
But Wang Yue was too old, and the gatekeepers needed someone strong and healthy, so he was obviously not qualified and could only work as a cleaner like He Fen.
That's not bad, though. Together they have over ten thousand yuan, which is more than enough for them in Chongqing, and they can even save some money.
