Chapter 40 Are you sick?
Perhaps it was because her smile was so radiant that even Qin Ce's gaze softened.
He nodded slightly: "Yes."
Qiao Xing looked at the flickering light on his face, and her heart stirred slightly. She quickly avoided his gaze and said, "Let's go back."
Just as the two got into the car and were about to leave, a dilapidated Wuling Hongguang suddenly stopped in front of them, blocking their way.
"Old Qin, hello sister-in-law."
Yang Han poked his head out of the car and greeted the two of them with a grin.
Qin Ce's expression darkened slightly upon hearing his voice, but it improved somewhat when he saw the dilapidated car he was driving.
I don't know where Yang Han found this car. It's white, but you can't tell it's white anymore. You can tell from the dust on it that it hasn't been washed in at least five years.
The bumpers under the car doors have all fallen off, and the car looks like it could fall apart at any moment.
Qiao Xing quickly stopped the car and greeted him, "It's you! What brings you here...?"
"Oh, I came here to collect the trash, I didn't expect to run into you here."
Yang Han lied through his teeth. Not only did he change his vehicle, but he also changed his equipment, replacing it with a royal blue construction worker's outfit, completely transforming himself into a garbage collector.
Qin Ce never expected that this guy would get so into character just from a casual remark.
"Are you going back to cook? I haven't eaten yet, sister-in-law, would you mind if I came to your house for a meal?"
Just as Qin Ce was about to refuse, Qiao Xing greeted him with a smile, "Of course! I'm about to go back and cook. I'll lead the way, and you can follow behind."
"Okay, okay."
Yang Han glanced at Qin Ce in the back seat and winked at him, as if asking if she was acting convincingly.
Qin Ce glared at him, annoyed.
Some people are just too idle and are always looking for fun. Yang Han is no exception. For him, role-playing is just a fun game.
Soon, Qiao Xing arrived at the residential area. After getting off the bus, she turned around and said to the two of them while carrying the groceries, "Qin Ce, I'll go upstairs to cook first. You and your classmate come up together."
"Um."
After Qiao Xing left, Qin Ce's expression completely changed.
Yang Han got out of the car happily and came to Qin Ce. But when she saw his cold eyes, her smile froze.
"Old Qin, why are you looking at me like that?"
"Are you sick?" Qin Ce said.
"You're the one who's sick! Didn't you call me a ragpicker? You have the nerve to say that to me? Would you be happy if I drove a Ferrari? Old Qin, let me tell you, you better be polite to me, or I'll expose you to your sister-in-law!"
Qin Ce turned and left with a sullen face.
Yang Han followed eagerly, "But speaking of which, Lao Qin, what do you mean by this? Why did you hide your identity from her? Are you looking for pure love?"
Qin Ce paused, and suddenly glanced at Yang Han.
Yang Han subconsciously took two steps back. "What did I say wrong again?"
Qin Ce didn't speak. He suddenly stopped walking, leaned against the wall of the stairs, took out a cigarette, lit it, and looked somewhat unreadable.
At first, he was just worried that Qiao Xing was the kind of vain woman who could easily fool the old man, and he didn't want such a woman to take advantage of him.
However, during this time he had been in contact with Qiao Xing, although he did not know her completely, he vaguely sensed that there were some differences between what she thought and what he thought.
Yang Han's words just now reminded him of the scene of Qiao Xing buying vegetables at the market.
They were not in the same world. She was like a lotus flower growing out of the mud; she was meant to grow in a pond and bloom freely.
If you move a lotus flower to a place filled with wine and meat, it will look so out of place that it might even wither.
Qin Ce vaguely sensed that if he were to be honest with her at this moment, she would either be overjoyed, confirming her vain nature.
Alternatively, she might not blame him for deceiving her, but she would definitely distance herself from him.
At the very least, she can no longer pick him up from get off work on her electric scooter.
He would no longer hear her rambling about those trivial matters.
Thinking of this, Qin Ce was stunned. Did he really like her picking him up and dropping him off at work and listening to her nonsense? No way!
"What are you thinking about?" Yang Han raised her hand and waved it in front of his eyes.
Qin Ce snapped out of his daze, threw the cigarette butt on the ground, and stubbed it out with his toe. "It's alright, go on up."
Yang Han scratched his head in confusion, not quite understanding what Qin Ce was troubled about.
Qiao Xing continued to cook at Grandpa Qin's house. After all, it wouldn't be appropriate to take guests back to her uncle's house, lest it upset her aunt.
Grandpa Qin didn't know Yang Han, but he was very enthusiastic.
After the meal was ready, Qiao Xing brought out all the dishes and called out, "Dinner's ready."
Yang Han is a lively and outgoing person. When he chatted with Grandpa Qin, he made the old man laugh non-stop.
The four sat around the table, and Yang Han stood up to pour drinks for everyone.
"Old Qin has been back for so long, and this is the first time we've had a proper meal together. Come on, Grandpa, Old Qin, and Sister-in-law, let's have some soft drinks instead of alcohol. I'll toast everyone."
The old man chuckled and said, "This young man is quite nice. I'm curious, how did you become friends with Xiao Ce, this quiet guy?"
Yang Han took a sip of her drink and picked up her chopsticks to eat.
"I share a dorm with him, but Grandpa, you're wrong about something. Old Qin isn't quiet at all; he has a sharp tongue. Back then, many female classmates confessed to him, but they were all brought to tears by his sarcastic remarks. Sister-in-law, your cooking is really good. This stir-fried lettuce with pork tastes just like home."
Qiao Xing paused in her chopsticks, not because Yang Han praised her, but because many female classmates were confessing their feelings to Qin Ce.
She asked tentatively, "Confess to him? Did he reject all those female classmates?"
"Yeah, to be honest, if I didn't know you two were married, I would have thought he was gay."
Qiao Xing's heart skipped a beat. She knew very well that her marriage to Qin Ce was not based on love.
She stole a glance at Qin Ce, who was eating by himself, upholding the fine virtue of not speaking while sleeping or eating.
But she still couldn't quite believe that Qin Ce was gay, so she asked, "Then is he more likely to get along with boys?"
Yang Han tilted her head and thought for a moment, "It is better. I am a good example. If it were in the past, and a girl had been pestering him like this, he would have made her cry long ago."
"Oh, by the way, we have a few good friends. Maybe Lao Qin can introduce you to them sometime."
Qiao Xing suddenly found the food tasteless.
She held her chopsticks and stirred the rice in her bowl again and again, looking preoccupied.
"Sister-in-law, why aren't you eating?"
Qiao Xing snapped out of her daze and quickly forced a smile, "I'm eating, you guys eat more."
"Then I won't stand on ceremony. Sister-in-law, your cooking is delicious. Can I come here often in the future?"
"Of course, you can come anytime if you like."
The old man chimed in, "That's right, why don't you just come over here? I may not be able to cook, but we'll have plenty to talk about, won't we?"
Yang Han laughed and stood up to serve the old man some food. "If I come every day from now on, please don't find me annoying."
These words made the old man laugh.
Qiao Xing thought to herself that she would have a good talk with Qin Ce later.
