Chapter 45 That's a month's salary for her.

Qiao Xing hugged him briefly for a moment, then released Qin Ce and smiled at him, "Let's go home."

Qin Ce stared at her blankly for a long time before he came to his senses and asked, "What's wrong with you?"

"It's okay, you must be tired from work. Go on your way, I'll cook you something delicious when we get back." Qiao Xing handed him the helmet and gave him a bright smile.

He must be feeling very down right now; we shouldn't discourage him.

Qin Ce frowned. He realized that he was increasingly unable to understand this woman.

He took the helmet and got on Qiao Xing's electric scooter.

Qiao Xing went to the market again and bought a lot of delicious food, making a table full of dishes. The old man thought it was something good.

When Qin Ce went to the restroom, the old man pulled Qiao Xing aside and asked with a smile, "Xingxing, you made such a lavish meal tonight, is something good happening?"

Qiao Xing glanced in the direction of the restroom and whispered to the old man, "Grandpa, I heard from others that Qin Ce failed his interview, so when you talk to him, don't be too serious, lest he get even more upset."

The old man spat out the tea he had just drunk when he heard those words.

Qiao Xing quickly patted his back, "Grandpa, are you alright?"

The old man's face turned red. He put down his teacup, waved his hand, and indicated that he was fine.

After a moment, the old man asked, "Who told you that?"

“She’s a colleague of mine. Her boyfriend works at Qin Ce’s company. He found out about her at work.”

The old man touched his nose, his expression unusually strange. "Oh, I see. Grandpa understands."

"It's fine for the two of us to know about this; let's not say it out loud and hurt him."

The old man could barely contain his laughter. He nodded, "Yes, yes, okay, I won't tell him."

Qiao Xing sighed and said, "But I believe that he is so outstanding that he will definitely find a better job, so Grandpa, don't worry too much. Besides, I have a job now, and I earn enough money for us to live on."

The old man coughed and said, "Yes, Xingxing, you are such a good child."

Qiao Xing smiled shyly when she heard his praise.

After Qin Ce came out, Qiao Xing consciously stopped discussing the topic, stayed with the old man for a while, and then went back.

Just as Qin Ce was about to leave, the old man suddenly called out to him.

"Xiao Ce, wait a minute."

Qin Ce paused, turned around and glanced at the old man.

"Come here, I have something to tell you."

Qin Ce turned back and sat down next to him. "What is it?"

The old man hesitated for a long time before finally speaking, "Xiao Ce, when are you going to see your father?"

Before Qin Ce could speak, the old man continued, "If you don't go to see him, he might come looking for you. You don't want anyone to know about your marriage to Xingxing, and you don't want her to know your identity either. But if your father comes, he will definitely meet with Xingxing. Let's see how you handle that then."

Qin Ce was about to refuse, but upon hearing the old man's words, he suddenly fell silent.

The old man patted his arm and advised, "Go see him. After all, he's your father. You can't go your whole life without seeing him, can you?"

"I understand, I'll make time to go there."

"That's right." The old man's face finally brightened, but then, as if remembering something, he sighed, "Xingxing is a good girl; you'd better hold on to her."

"Grandpa, you praise her eight out of ten times when you talk to me. What is it about her that makes you value her so much?"

The old man said, "You'll figure it out for yourself. You wouldn't believe me even if I told you. But I'll tell you, do you know why she cooked so many dishes tonight?"

"Why?"

"Because she heard somewhere that you were laid off from the company, and she wanted to cook you a nice meal to comfort you. She also told me not to mention it to you, because she wanted to support you."

Qin Ce's lips twitched slightly. He finally realized why he had been so upset that she had given him a hug as soon as they met and had bought so much delicious food.

He thought it was because her proposal had been approved and she wanted to celebrate.

"Okay, I got it. I'll head over now."

The old man laughed heartily upon hearing this, "You little rascal, you used to be so hard to catch up with, but now you're so conscientious?"

Qin Ce was taken aback. He remained silent for a moment, lost in thought, before returning to the next room.

Before I even entered the house, Lily came back. She looked like she had gone shopping, carrying large and small bags of things.

"I'm exhausted." Lily threw the things on the ground and collapsed onto the sofa.

Seeing this, her aunt came over and asked awkwardly, "Lily, what did you buy?"

Hearing this, Lily smiled at her aunt, picked up the things on the ground and put them on the table. "I bought a few clothes. Winter is coming soon, isn't it? Auntie, do you think this dress looks good?"

She held up the coat to herself; it was a brown overcoat.

"It looks beautiful, it must be very expensive!"

"It's not expensive, only a little over three thousand. How about this one, do you think it looks good?"

Lily was busy showing off her clothes and didn't notice her aunt's pale face. One of the clothes cost several thousand yuan, while her monthly salary was only a little over four thousand yuan.

My aunt is not very educated and works odd jobs with my uncle on construction sites. She earns a little over four thousand a month, while my uncle earns eight or ten thousand a month when things are good, but sometimes he doesn't have any work for several months.

Three thousand yuan didn't seem expensive to Lily, but to her aunt, it was a month's salary.

Lily took out all the clothes and showed them off. They were all bought for herself, and not a single one was for her aunt and uncle.

Qiao Xing sat there, holding a water glass in her hands, stealing glances at her aunt's expression.

Auntie maintained an awkward smile; although she was unhappy with Lily's behavior, she dared not say anything.

Since Lily is a college student and her son is a good-for-nothing who is over thirty and still hasn't found a wife, she didn't dare say anything.

"These things must cost at least ten or twenty thousand, right? Lily, where did you get so much money?"

Lily paused, then chuckled and said, "Of course it was from my dad. He dotes on me, so what?"

"No, it's alright, it's fine, the clothes are nice." Aunt turned around and sighed wistfully.

Lily caught sight of Qiao Xing over there and waved to her, "Cousin, come here."

Qiao Xing quickly put down her water glass and went over, "What's wrong, cousin-in-law?"

What do you think of the clothes I bought?

"It looks great, very tasteful."

Lily smiled and looked at her. "Then do me a favor and take it back inside. I have to go out for a bit later."

Qiao Xing asked in surprise, "You're going out so late?"

"It's only a few o'clock, the nightlife is just beginning. Do you want to come along? I'll introduce you to some of my girlfriends."

Qiao Xing's smile was a little stiff. She sensed something was off about where Lily was going. "Where are you going?"

"A bar? You've never been to one, have you?"
