Chapter 591: Is he jealous?
Wang Ye asked excitedly, "What lawyer?"
Qiao Xing smiled and said, "I've heard that lawyers are all very capable, not only rich but also very powerful. I never expected Bai Yi to know such an outstanding person."
Wang Ye stared at the two people inside the glass window, grinding his teeth as he spoke, "He's just a lawyer, what's there to be so proud of!"
"Cousin, aren't you going to go in and say hello?"
Wang Ye clenched his fist and said defiantly, "I'm not going. I have things to do at the shop. I'm going back first."
Qiao Xing watched his retreating figure, her laughter widening. She asked Qin Ce, "Do you think my cousin is jealous?"
"That's good. With competitors, he'll have a sense of crisis."
Qiao Xing nodded in agreement, "Indeed."
After picking up Linlin, Wang Ye went to the store.
He was busy when Bai Yi arrived.
Linlin was playing games on the sofa when she saw Bai Yi and quickly ran over, calling out, "Mommy!"
Bai Yi squatted down, rubbed his head, and asked, "Have you been listening to your uncle?"
Linlin turned her head and glanced at Wang Ye, then whispered to Bai Yi, "Uncle seems angry."
"Are you angry?" Bai Yi looked at Wang Ye, who was squatting on the ground with his back to her, seemingly unaware that she had arrived.
Bai Yi asked Linlin, "Did you make your uncle angry?"
Linlin said, "No, Linlin is very obedient."
Bai Yi knew that Linlin wasn't a willful child, and even if she did something wrong, it wouldn't make Wang Ye angry.
She thought for a moment, then walked towards Wang Ye.
Wang Ye was busy with his work when he turned his head and saw Bai Yi. He paused for a moment, then acted as if he hadn't seen her and continued with his own tasks.
Bai Yi was even more puzzled.
She asked, "What's wrong? Is there a problem at the store?"
Wang Ye scoffed inwardly, thinking that she was busy all day with this friend and that colleague, yet she still had the mind to worry about his affairs.
Wang Ye said in a muffled voice, "It's nothing."
He practically had "I'm unhappy" written all over his face, so Bai Yi naturally didn't believe him.
"If there's anything I can help you with, you can tell me."
Wang Ye said, "No."
Bai Yi couldn't help but frown.
But she still patiently asked Wang Ye, "I just bought some groceries on my way back. What time will you be back? I'll cook dinner and wait for you."
"No need, you take Linlin and go back first. I probably won't be going back tonight."
These words made Bai Yi feel somewhat uncomfortable.
Just as Wang Ye was about to leave with his things, she stopped him. "Wang Ye, you can talk about what's wrong. Don't take it out on me. What did I do wrong?"
Wang Ye opened his mouth, but what was he supposed to say?
Are you suggesting I tell Bai Yi that he felt uncomfortable seeing her with another man, which is why he was unhappy?
It would be strange if Bai Yi didn't laugh at him for saying that. Wouldn't he lose face in front of Bai Yi in the future?
After a moment of internal struggle, Wang Ye said to Bai Yi, "I really have nothing to do. It's getting late, you should take Linlin back first."
Bai Yi stared at Wang Ye's back. She felt that even though she had known Wang Ye for so long, she had never really understood what kind of person he was.
After standing there quietly for a while, she ultimately said nothing and took Linlin back home.
With Bai Yi gone, Wang Ye felt a sudden emptiness in his heart.
Actually, if Bai Yi had pressed her for more questions just now, he might have actually told her.
He was conflicted; he wanted her to know what he was thinking, but he also didn't want her to know.
When Qiao Xing and Qin Ce finished dinner, the sun had just set, and the temperature outside was just right, neither too hot nor too cold.
The two had originally discussed whether to take Grandpa Qin out for a walk, but after the old man finished eating, he became too lazy to move.
He enthusiastically took out his chess set and said to Qiao Xing, "Xingxing, let Grandpa teach you how to play chess."
Qiao Xing was bewildered. "Huh?"
As they were talking, Grandpa Qin had already set up the chess pieces. "This isn't difficult. Anyway, given your current condition, it's not good for you to keep going out. Why not treat this as a form of entertainment and keep Grandpa entertained?"
Qiao Xing glanced at Qin Ce beside her, then said to Grandpa Qin, "Can I really learn this?"
Grandpa Qin said confidently, "With me here, how could you possibly fail to learn?"
Since Grandpa Qin had said so, Qiao Xing didn't want to spoil his mood, so she said, "If I make a mistake, please don't laugh at me."
Grandpa Qin laughed heartily, "Of course not!"
Actually, Qiao Xing wasn't completely clueless about chess. She had accompanied Grandpa Qin to play chess a few times before, so she knew some of the patterns.
But this was the first time I had ever played chess face-to-face with Grandpa Qin.
Qin Ce sat down beside her, quietly watching the two of them. Grandpa Qin's gaze was also fixed on Qiao Xing, waiting for her to leave first.
She wasn't sure if it was because she was nervous, but she took the wrong first step.
Grandpa Qin smiled and moved his piece forward one step.
Qiao Xing didn't realize that she had made a mistake in her first move. When she moved the chess pieces next, she subconsciously moved them according to her own ideas.
But the next second, she regretted it, "Oh dear, I went the wrong way."
She wanted to move the chess piece back, but Grandpa Qin stopped her, saying, "Hey, you can lose even if you make a mistake, but you can't take it back. That's the biggest taboo in chess."
They say old people are like children, and Grandpa Qin looked both earnest and adorable at that moment.
Qiao Xing couldn't help but laugh and said, "Alright, alright, then I won't regret it. You can go now."
Grandpa Qin nodded in approval, then moved his piece.
Qiao Xing made one mistake after another, and after several rounds, he had no hope of winning.
She wasn't too concerned about winning or losing; as long as Grandpa Qin was happy, that was enough.
Therefore, Qiao Xing moved the pieces almost arbitrarily in the following moves.
However, just when Grandpa Qin was about to win, Qin Ce, who had been quietly watching the two play chess, finally spoke up when Qiao Xing was about to move a piece, saying, "Go here."
Qiao Xing glanced at Qin Ce and thought to herself, "We're about to lose anyway, so what difference does it make where we go?"
But she still obediently listened to Qin Ce and moved the chess piece over.
This movement was no small matter; Grandpa Qin's expression immediately turned serious.
He stared at the chessboard and rubbed it for a long time before finally moving a piece.
Although Qiao Xing didn't quite understand, he could see that the whole situation had been turned around because of Qin Ce's guidance.
Grandpa Qin was just one step away from victory, but Qin Ce's move completely blocked his path.
Grandpa Qin looked at Qin Ce, pointed at him, and smiled helplessly, "You little rascal."
