Extra 25
Hearing this, Wang Qin blushed even more and waved her hand to refuse. Qiao Xing, however, chimed in, "I think it's good."
Wang Qin was at a loss for words, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
She had always felt that such things were immoral, but seeing how vividly they described it, she couldn't help but be influenced by them as well.
Perhaps I really am getting old; in the eyes of these people nowadays, this kind of thing doesn't seem to be a big deal anymore.
Qiao Xing looked at her and asked, "Mom, what do you think? I think that if you two keep it up like this, you'll only attract a lot of gossip. It would be better to just get married openly."
These words persuaded Wang Qin. She hesitated for a moment, then said hesitantly, "Then, I'll listen to you."
Qiao Xing smiled and said, "Okay, then leave this to us."
Wang Qin still looked a little embarrassed.
Qiao Xing acted immediately, leaving Wang Qin's house and heading straight to Grandpa Li's house.
He knocked on the door, and a middle-aged woman opened it. She looked Qiao Xing up and down, making sure she didn't recognize him, before asking, "Who are you looking for?"
Qiao Xing smiled and said, "My name is Qiao Xing, and Wang Qin is my mother. We are here to visit Grandpa Li."
Upon hearing Wang Qin's name, the woman's face lit up with understanding, and she smiled as she opened the door to welcome her in.
"Come in quickly."
Only Qiao Xing and Qin Anning came; Qin Ce was definitely unwilling to get involved in these matters.
Mr. Li's son and daughter-in-law also knew Wang Qin and had investigated her. They knew that Wang Qin's son-in-law was a wealthy man, and a very important person whom they couldn't get close to.
The woman said, "We were just talking to Dad about Aunt Wang. He's just too shy. He's not even as good as a twenty-year-old young man."
"Please make yourself at home, come in and sit down."
She was very enthusiastic, which surprised Qiao Xing.
Qiao Xing led Qin Anning to sit down, and the woman busied herself pouring water. Grandpa Li sat beside them, forcing himself to offer them fruit.
The woman sat down as well and introduced herself, "My name is Huang Ru, and I am my daughter-in-law. My husband has gone out to see some friends, and I am calling him back now."
Qiao Xing was even more surprised. It seemed that Huang Ru knew the purpose of their visit, otherwise she wouldn't have called back Grandpa Li's son.
Qiao Xing hurriedly said, "No need for such trouble. I just came to see Grandpa Li. He brought dumplings to my mother earlier, and I came specifically to thank Grandpa Huang."
Huang Ru was taken aback for a moment, then put away her phone. "There's no need to thank me. They have a good relationship, so it's only natural for them to help each other."
Qiao Xing smiled as she chatted with Huang Ru about everyday things.
She subtly inquired about what Huang Ru and her husband did, while Huang Ru boasted and tried to elevate her own status.
Qiao Xing then realized that the couple were even more eager than she was to bring the two elderly people together, and were even giving Grandpa Li psychological counseling.
From Huang Ru's enthusiastic tone, she could tell that Huang Ru was eager and had other intentions besides caring for the elderly.
Her husband is a leader in a small place. He has been working there for many years and wants to get promoted, but he has no connections or background and has been stuck in the same place.
In a sense, her husband, lacking any special background or connections, has achieved quite a lot on his own, which is truly remarkable.
However, how can a person be content with the status quo after staying in one environment for a long time?
Huang Ru didn't say it explicitly, but Qiao Xing could sense the meaning from her words.
As the two were chatting, Mr. Li's son returned.
He walked over with a smile and greeted Qiao Xing.
This man, who is in his forties, probably keeps a mustache to make himself look more mature and composed.
One look at his wise eyes and you know he's a seasoned veteran, very shrewd.
He sat down and said, "Actually, we should have visited Aunt Wang, but we were afraid of disturbing her by going there unannounced. We didn't expect Madam Qin to come on her own initiative. We really didn't welcome her properly."
Qiao Xing smiled and said, "No need to be so polite, it's good that I didn't disturb you."
"No need to disturb us. We're overjoyed that Madam Qin could come. Have you all eaten yet? Why don't you stay and have a meal with us later and try my wife's cooking? She's an excellent cook; everyone who's tried her food raves about it."
Huang Ru also extended an invitation, "Yes, why don't you stay for a meal? I just bought a lot of groceries."
Qiao Xing shook his head and refused, "No, we have family waiting for us to go back. We just came to see Grandpa Li, and now that we've seen him, we should go."
She had already refused outright, so the couple couldn't insist on keeping her.
"Alright then, I'll invite Mrs. Qin to dinner again next time."
Qiao Xing smiled slightly and left Grandpa Li's house with Qin Anning.
Once downstairs, Qin Anning asked, puzzled, "Mom, didn't we come here to talk about Grandma and Uncle Li? I thought Uncle Li's son and daughter-in-law were very supportive, so why did you leave?"
Qiao Xing sighed, "It's good for them, so of course they agree. But if things really work out between them, your dad will have a headache. It's best not to cause him any trouble."
Qin Anning frowned, understanding the situation somewhat.
She sighed as well, "When we came out, Grandma seemed quite excited."
Qiao Xing was also somewhat conflicted.
After a moment of hesitation, he spoke, “Let’s investigate first. The couple was even more agitated than Grandpa Li himself. I even suspect that Grandpa Li’s initial approach to your grandmother was their premeditated scheme.”
Qin Anning's eyelids twitched. "No way? Did they start planning this so early?"
"Don't underestimate these people. For them, success means soaring to the top, and failure means no loss. What's a little time?"
Qiao Xing stopped and turned to look at Qin Anning, saying seriously, "Anning, when you're out there, you need to keep your eyes open and not let any ill-intentioned people get close to you."
Qin Anning laughed and said, "Don't worry, Mom, I know. I'm very low-key. None of my classmates from school know who I am."
Qiao Xing wasn't worried about that. Her daughter wasn't like some people who liked to show off, and it was all thanks to her upbringing.
Her biggest worry used to be that people with ulterior motives would find out her daughter's identity and target her.
She'd seen it all before; some men from humble backgrounds would devise all sorts of schemes to target rich girls in order to take shortcuts. Their tricks were endless and impossible to guard against, and one wrong move could leave them with nothing but heartbreak and financial ruin.
She was even wary of Fu Yin. From the time they met until now, Qiao Xing had thoroughly investigated Fu Yin over the years.
Indeed, nothing unusual was found, and since the young man was somewhat different from others, and her daughter liked him, she refrained from interfering in their relationship.
The test set by Qin Ce is very necessary. If Fu Yin can pass it and prove his ability and his feelings for his daughter, she might be willing to entrust her precious daughter to him.
