Extra 77
She flew back to Chongqing alone, and Bai Lin was there to pick her up.
Upon seeing Bai Lin at the airport, Qin Anning couldn't help but chuckle and walked towards him.
"I suddenly realized that it seems like you're the one who always picks me up."
Bai Lin laughed along, "What, don't you welcome me?"
"No, I was just saying. I'm just happy to see you," Qin Anning said, naturally taking his arm. "Thank you for picking me up, cousin."
Bai Lin was slightly taken aback, unsure whether it was because of the word "cousin" or because Qin Anning was holding his arm.
But he quickly regained his composure, took the luggage from Qin Anning's hand, and walked towards the parking lot.
"Are you really staying in Chongqing this time?" After getting into the car, Bai Lin suddenly turned to look at her.
Qin Anning nodded, "Yes, I've already promised my dad I'd go work at S&C. I might need your help in the future."
"You can contact me anytime if I can help you."
"Really? Why are you being so nice to me?"
Bai Lin choked slightly, started the car, and then said, "Because you're my cousin."
After saying that, he stepped on the gas and drove off.
Qin Anning smiled and didn't say anything more.
Perhaps because he was a little distracted, Bai Lin was driving rather erratically. Several times at red lights, he almost forgot to step on the brake and crashed into the car in front of him.
"Cousin, watch where you're going, don't get distracted."
Qin Anning's reminder made Bai Lin realize that the light ahead was red, and he was walking in the first car.
A pedestrian was about to cross the road, and his car was about to hit the person.
The person didn't expect the car to come towards him and forgot to react while standing on the zebra crossing.
Bai Lin jerked the steering wheel, narrowly missing the person, but the car went out of control and crashed into the green belt diagonally ahead.
Everything happened so fast that Qin Anning didn't even have time to react before a sudden jolt and the world spun around her.
My head buzzed, I don't know what I bumped into, my vision went black, and I felt dizzy.
At that moment, her mind went blank, as if she had lost the ability to think, her whole body went limp, and all she could hear was the sound of her own heartbeat.
But she knew she was still alive.
"An Ning, are you alright?"
The familiar voice of Bai Lin reached her ears, and Qin Anning's heart finally settled down a little. She opened her eyes and was stunned again when she saw the face so close to hers.
Bai Lin's eyes were filled with worry and guilt. He cupped Qin Anning's face in his hands, stammering, "I'm sorry, I... I wasn't paying attention, it's all my fault... Did I scare you?"
It was clear that he was also still shaken and wanted to say something to comfort Qin Anning, but he couldn't find the words to express himself in a short time.
Who would have thought this would happen to them?
After a while, Qin Anning finally came to her senses. The two of them were so close, and she immediately felt a little uncomfortable.
"No, I'm fine."
Bai Lin breathed a sigh of relief when she heard her speak.
Just then, someone came over and asked if they needed help, but Bai Lin refused the passerby's offer.
As he withdrew his hand, Qin Anning suddenly grabbed his wrist and, upon closer inspection, saw that blood was flowing from the back of his hand.
Qin Anning suddenly remembered that her head seemed to have bumped into something just now; now that she thought about it, it seemed to have bumped into his palm.
In other words, he rushed over immediately and covered her head with his hands.
If it weren't for his hand blocking it, Qin Anning's head would have hit the glass, and it wouldn't have been his hand that bled, but his own head.
Qin Anning subconsciously looked at Bai Lin.
Bai Lin's gaze darted away as he pulled away from her grasp. "I'm fine. Get out of the car first. The traffic police are here."
Qin Anning got out of the car in silence. There were cracks in the glass, indicating that the impact was quite severe. Even though he had shielded her from the impact, her head still ached and she felt dizzy.
As she watched the figure in front of her negotiating with the traffic police, her mind was filled with the scene from just now.
Responding in such a short time can only be a subconscious act.
After dealing with the car issue, the two were taken to the hospital.
Qin Anning had a brain CT scan, which showed a mild concussion, but nothing serious.
Bai Lin's injuries were much more serious. He had fractured finger joints, a fractured wrist, and cuts from broken glass. He also needed surgery.
Qin Anning waited for him outside the operating room for more than two hours before he came out.
His left hand was in a cast and was hanging from his neck.
He approached Qin Anning and asked about her condition, "How are you?"
Qin Anning shook her head. "It's nothing. The doctor said I just need to rest for a few days."
"That's good, let's go back."
Neither of them needs to be hospitalized; they can come back for a follow-up check-up in a couple of days.
Bai Lin's hand is currently inconvenient, and he can't drive. He doesn't want to go back because he's afraid his family will worry.
So he had to live in his own apartment until his hand healed.
Qin Anning was a little worried, so she followed him to Bai Lin's apartment. His right hand was injured, so he couldn't do many things.
So Qin Anning took on the responsibility of taking care of him.
Once inside, Bai Lin said, "Actually, you didn't need to come along. I can manage on my own."
Qin Anning shoved him into the house, saying, "Go inside and rest. How can you do this all by yourself? Anyway, I don't have anything to do. This place is close to the company, so it's convenient for me to go to work."
Bai Lin sighed helplessly and could only let her stay there.
Aside from the occasional cleaning lady coming to clean, he does almost everything else himself. As for cooking, his cooking is better than the cleaning lady's.
After all that trouble, from morning until now, it's already 8 PM, and Qin Anning's stomach is growling with hunger.
She went to the refrigerator to get ingredients and started cooking.
However, she was so hungry that she simply cooked two bowls of egg noodles.
"Let's eat this tonight. Cooking is too much trouble, and I'm afraid we'll both starve by the time we finish cooking."
She placed the egg noodles in front of Bai Lin, then glanced at his hand in a cast. "Are you sure you can manage? Or should I feed you?"
Bai Lin shook his head repeatedly, "No need, I can do it myself."
He picked up the chopsticks with his left hand, but it was still a bit awkward, and the noodles fell off several times as he tried to pick them up.
He looked somewhat embarrassed as Qin Anning stared at him.
"Or I can feed you."
Bai Lin still shook his head and refused, insisting on doing it himself. He picked up the noodles, rolled them twice with his chopsticks, and finally put them in his mouth.
Although it was somewhat inappropriate, Qin Anning couldn't help but laugh at his clumsy appearance.
She quickly covered her mouth, saying, "I'm sorry, this is the first time I've seen you eat like this, I couldn't help it."
Bai Lin smiled wryly, "It's alright, this is what I deserve."
Qin Anning's smile faded, and she looked at him seriously. "What happened to you during the day? What made you so lost in thought?"
He was always composed, and this was the first time Qin Anning had ever seen him lose focus while driving.
Bai Lin paused for a moment, hesitated several times before finally saying nothing, "It's nothing, eat quickly, or the noodles will get soggy."
Qin Anning was somewhat disappointed. She lowered her head and finished the entire bowl of egg noodles.
After Bai Lin finished eating, she cleaned up the dishes and went to the kitchen.
Hearing the sound of water coming from the kitchen, Bai Lin's gaze fell on the glass partition in the kitchen, where he could vaguely see busy figures inside.
A moment later, he lowered his eyes and looked at the cast on his arm, his expression becoming extremely complicated.
"I'm all done washing up, go wash up now." Qin Anning came out of the kitchen and walked towards the bathroom. "I'll squeeze some toothpaste for you."
When Bai Lin entered the bathroom, the toothpaste had already been squeezed out, the water had been filled, and even the towel had been wrung out and placed aside.
Qin Anning went to another restroom to wash up.
She had been here many times and knew the layout very well, but this was the first time she had stayed overnight here.
Qin Anning slept in the room next to his, and made her own bed.
She waited until Bai Lin came out, watched him take his medicine, and then went back to her room to lie down.
Perhaps because of the bump during the day, Qin Anning felt dizzy and fell asleep soon after.
The next day, she got up early, prepared toiletries for Bai Lin, and went to the kitchen to make breakfast.
Bai Lin was woken up by the sound of her cooking. When he got out of bed, he was a little dazed to see that there was someone else in the kitchen.
He was alone most of the time, and the sudden presence of another person made him feel uneasy.
Soon, Qin Anning brought out breakfast. "You're up? That's perfect for breakfast."
"I'll go home first. I should be reporting to the company in a couple of days. Since you're injured, you should rest at home for now and not go out unnecessarily."
Bai Lin listened absentmindedly, and only nodded and said "oh" perfunctorily after she finished speaking.
Qin Anning frowned and looked at him suspiciously.
What's wrong with this guy?
He refused to say, and Qin Anning couldn't get any information out of him. After finishing breakfast, he went home.
Her parents knew she came back yesterday, but she made an excuse, saying she stayed at a friend's house for the night.
I'll have to come up with another reason for coming back today, since I'll be staying at Bai Lin's place for quite a while.
She came home late; Qin Ce had gone to the company, leaving Qiao Xing alone at home.
If she had arrived any later, Qiao Xing would have had to leave as well.
"Mom, I have something to tell you."
Qiao Xing, who was packing her things, turned around and glanced at her. "What is it?"
Qin Anning stammered, "Well, I'm going to work at Dad's company, so I bought an apartment near the company. I'll live there until I'm familiar with the company's business."
Qiao Xing looked her up and down, and sometimes he had to admit that as he got older, he could really see through a child's lies at a glance.
Qin Anning's evasive gaze could not escape Qiao Xing's notice.
Why feel so guilty when you live in your own house?
However, Qiao Xing didn't expose her. After pondering for a moment, he nodded and said, "Okay, but wouldn't it be unsafe for a girl like you to live alone outside?"
Qin Anning hurriedly said, "It's so close to the company, and it's in the city, so it won't be unsafe."
"Alright then, you're all grown up now, so whatever you think is fine."
Qin Anning's face lit up with joy, and she immediately stepped forward to give her a big hug. "Thank you, Mom. I will try my best!"
"Alright, you go ahead and do your best. I'm heading out now."
Qin Anning raised her hand and waved, "Goodbye, Mom."
"Mom is Mom, but don't add 'old' next time!"
Qin Anning laughed, turned and ran to her room, packed a few changes of clothes, and then returned to Bai Lin's apartment.
She settled down there for the time being.
Two days later, Qin Anning went to the company to report for duty.
Qin Ce arranged for her to be the assistant to the vice president, which is Han Yan's assistant, with the aim of having Han Yan mentor her.
This arrangement naturally earned Han Yan a good scolding; he was accused of not taking care of his own daughter and instead handing her over to him.
He's so old, why is it so difficult for him to retire properly?
Qin Anning didn't want to disappoint her parents, so she did everything very seriously. She did whatever Han Yan asked her to do, running errands, fetching things, pouring coffee, and serving guests, without the slightest complaint.
Over time, Han Yan couldn't help but admire her character.
Most young people can't stand this kind of work; they get impatient after just a few days.
Qin Anning endured it for a full month.
For the past month, she worked at the company during the day and returned to her apartment at night to take care of Bai Lin.
His hand has almost recovered, and the cast will be removed in two more days.
However, her behavior of not returning home for a month made Qiao Xing and Qin Ce uneasy.
That evening, Qiao Xing said with a sigh, "It seems my daughter is dating again. This time she's even moving into someone else's house. Is this appropriate?"
She didn't investigate; she just waited for Qin Anning to tell her on her own initiative.
After waiting and waiting, Qiao Xing couldn't wait any longer.
Qin Ce flipped through the magazine in his hand and said quietly, "She lives at Bai Lin's house."
Qiao Xing was stunned for a moment, then her eyes widened, and she turned to look at Qin Ce, "Who did you say?"
Qin Ce turned to meet her gaze and confirmed again, "Bai Lin, she has been living with him ever since she came back."
Qiao Xing's expression cracked slightly, "This, this, this..."
This is ridiculous! Qiao Xing is completely out of his depth. Is this even fair?
But then she sighed, "It's good that Xiao Lin isn't my cousin's biological son. It's alright. We've watched him grow up. He's a good person and we're family."
Qin Ce glanced at her sideways, "What are you imagining? Bai Lin is injured, and An Ning is taking care of him over there."
"He's injured? How did he get injured?"
Qin Ce sighed, "Go to sleep early, don't worry about things unnecessarily."
Qiao Xing grabbed him, "Wait a minute, I'm serious, we've already talked about this much, what do you think of them?"
Qin Ce said, "Ask them, why are you asking me?"
