Extra 79

Extra 79

Qin Anning hung up the phone and glanced back at Qiao Xing.

"Mom, my cousin went to the hospital and can't come."

Qiao Xing said "Oh," and although she already knew, she still asked, "Is he alright?"

"I don't know, I'll go check."

"Okay, go ahead then." Then, as if remembering something, she added, "Will you be back tonight?"

"Shall we go back?" Qin Anning was unsure, after all, she didn't know how badly Bai Lin was injured.

Without further delay, she immediately left the house and headed straight for the hospital.

When I arrived at the hospital, I called Bai Lin and learned that he had already come out and arrived at the parking lot.

Qin Anning arrived at the parking lot and immediately spotted Bai Lin standing by the car door.

Fortunately, no cast was needed, but his arm was wrapped tightly in gauze, so the injury was not visible.

"Cousin, what did the doctor say?" she asked breathlessly as she approached Bai Lin.

Bai Lin remained calm and raised his arm. "It's nothing serious. I'll be fine after a few days of rest. Why did you make a special trip?"

"Of course I was worried about you. Did you drive here yourself?"

"……Um."

"I knew it. Okay, you go over there, I'll drive."

Bai Lin paused for a moment, did not refuse, and went around to the passenger seat to sit down.

Qin Anning opened the car door, sat in the driver's seat, and suddenly found it amusing. "You, you just left the hospital less than two hours ago, and you're back at the hospital again."

Bai Lin also gave an awkward smile.

"What do I do now? I've already taken my things back, so I can't easily find an excuse to come out again."

Bai Lin said, "It's alright, I can manage on my own, no need to trouble you."

"Can you really just put yourself back in the hospital?"

"It was just an accident."

"Come on, I know you too well. You don't care about anything when no one's watching."

During this past month, things were alright when Qin Anning was keeping an eye on him, but as soon as she wasn't around, this guy would find things to do.

On several occasions, he would sneak off to the company by taxi while she was at work, showing that he couldn't stay idle at home.

Soon, Qin Anning took him to his apartment, and the two stared at each other in disbelief once again.

After a while, Bai Lin said, "You should go back first."

Qin Anning looked at him with a half-smile, "Are you trying to get rid of me?"

"No...didn't you take all your things back?" Bai Lin looked a little awkward and turned his head away to avoid her gaze.

Qin Anning looked him over, then suddenly took a step forward.

The two closed the distance, startling Bai Lin, who instinctively took a step back.

"Cousin, why don't you come back with me?"

Bai Lin was stunned for a moment, "What?"

Qin Anning sighed, turned around, and walked towards the sofa. "My parents already know that I've been staying with you for the past month, so they should know about your injury. Why don't you come back and live with me?"

Bai Lin remained silent.

Qin Anning sat on the sofa, glanced back at him, and asked, "What's wrong? You don't want to?"

"No." Bai Lin hesitated before speaking.

"What happened?"

"Let's not trouble them."

After he finished speaking, there was another moment of silence between the two.

Qin Anning sighed, "Fine, if you don't want to go, then forget it."

She said that, but she sat on the sofa without moving and showed no intention of going back.

Bai Lin stood there, somewhat at a loss, wanting to say something but not knowing where to begin.

His appearance left Qin Anning both amused and exasperated.

He's never seemed this awkward when we're together normally. We grew up together and are very familiar with each other, but the longer we spend together this past month, the stranger he seems.

"What are you spacing out for? If you don't welcome me, I'll just leave."

Qin Anning stood up, making a move to leave.

Bai Lin instinctively grabbed her, "I didn't mean that."

Qin Anning raised the corners of her mouth, took a step back, and leaned closer to him with a smile, "So what do you mean?"

"..."

Bai Lin's expression was complicated. He met her gaze for two seconds before hastily looking away.

"Anning, you...you shouldn't do this."

"What do you mean?" Qin Anning persisted.

After a brief silence, Bai Lin suddenly met her gaze, and for a moment, Qin Anning's heart skipped a beat.

But she managed to stay calm.

At least Qin Anning has confirmed it.

She wasn't overthinking things, nor was it a delusion; Bai Lin seemed to genuinely like her.

The two had known each other for so long that some of their feelings had become blurred, and they couldn't even distinguish what those feelings were.

The two were now very close, the sky outside had darkened, and the lights inside were off. Even at this distance, they could still clearly see each other's faces.

"cousin……"

"peaceful."

Qin Anning was interrupted by Bai Lin before she could finish speaking.

Qin Anning shut her mouth and looked at him silently.

"I have something to tell you."

"You have a girlfriend?"

"……No."

"Have you slept with other women?"

"...No, it's not about that." Bai Lin's tone became increasingly flustered as the topic came up. Could ordinary people talk about such things?

Asking these questions is tantamount to getting close to breaking through the barrier.

Qin Anning said "Oh," and then asked, "What is that?"

"It's Fu Lian's matter."

As Bai Lin's voice rang out, the air fell silent for a brief moment.

Qin Anning slowly straightened up, putting distance between herself and him. "Why did you say that about him?"

Bai Lin said softly, "Didn't you want to know why I was distracted while driving?"

"Because of him?"

"Almost, Anning. If he had his reasons for breaking up with you, would you forgive him?"

Qin Anning took a deep breath, suppressing a trace of anger in her heart, and made her voice sound as calm as possible, "Unless he is about to die, I will not forgive him for any reason."

Bai Lin remained silent, staring intently at her; the silence was almost eerily quiet.

Qin Anning's eyes flickered, and she suddenly looked at him, her tone tinged with urgency, "Really?"

Bai Lin nodded slightly, "I overheard Uncle Qin and Aunt Qiao talking about it."

Qin Anning's mind suddenly went blank, and she became unsteady on her feet.

Bai Lin grabbed her arm. "Are you alright?"

Qin Anning closed her eyes, trying to calm herself, her voice a little hoarse, "Why did you tell me?"

Bai Lin pondered for a moment and said, "I don't want to tell you, and I even hope you never know, but you have the right to know."

"And, selfishly, I hope... that when you choose me, you are single-minded."

He wasn't stupid; he knew about every time Qin Anning tested him.

He also knew that his feelings for her were something he couldn't reveal, but feelings are something that, no matter how much you try to control them, will always leave traces.

Qin Anning's probing was, in a sense, a response to him, and he should be happy about it.

But the name Fu Lian made him unsure whether Qin Anning was being spiteful or genuinely sincere.

Or, as long as it's not that person, and you're just someone she randomly chose, it could be anyone else.

"No wonder," Qin Anning murmured.

No wonder his reason for breaking up was so abrupt, no wonder he left so decisively.

"Anning, I'm sorry for making you sad."

Qin Anning gave a wry smile, "I had already let it go, why did you bring it up again?"

Bai Lin remained silent.

Qin Anning asked, "Where is he now?"
