In the quiet of the early morning in the rural valley, a nearly new red sedan bumped along a dirt road.
There were two beautiful women in the car.
"Wan'er, you look so listless today, and your dark circles are so heavy. Did you stay up late again? Didn't you promise not to stay up late anymore?" Su Mei, dressed in a red leather jacket, gripped the steering wheel and glanced at Ye Wan'er sitting in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
"I guess I had a dream and got tired." Wan'er looked melancholy as she straightened her faded jeans, then took out a lipstick and a small round mirror from her bag and applied a delicate layer of makeup...
I'm about to see my parents, so I can't let them see how tired I am.
"Oh? What did you dream about?" Su Mei asked, following up on the dream.
"Forget it, even I don't believe it myself," Ye Wan'er said with a bitter smile. She shook her head, put away the small round mirror and lipstick, and casually placed her arms at her sides, leaning weakly against the chair behind her.
"If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine. Have you been under a lot of work pressure lately?" Although she was curious, Su Mei felt sorry for Wan'er and didn't press her for details. She slowed down the car and gently pulled it to a stop on the side of the road.
Putting down the steering wheel, Su Mei turned around to look at Ye Wan'er, a playful smile playing on her lips. "Or perhaps, are personal issues troubling you?"
"We've gone off on a tangent." Wan'er's pretty face darkened, and without saying anything more, she turned around and picked up a large bunch of yellow chrysanthemums that had been prepared beforehand.
"He was just teasing you, wasn't he?" Su Mei muttered, feeling rebuffed, and reached back to unbuckle her seatbelt. "Wan'er, to be honest, you're so beautiful, and you have so many suitors. You're already 25, it's time you had a proper relationship. That way I can feel more at ease..."
As Su Mei said this, she was thinking to herself, "If you weren't single, I wouldn't have had to come to the mountains with you today."
"Stop! Are you going to say again that I wasted your precious time in love, Miss Su Mei? Get this straight, you insisted on coming along," Wan'er retorted irritably, having guessed Su Mei's thoughts. Then, holding the bright red chrysanthemums, she reached out and opened the car door...
"You ungrateful wretch! They were just worried about you being scared! Besides, your three-year mourning period is over, so you can't let your parents down." Su Mei rolled her eyes at Wan'er, then turned around and opened the car door.
"Thanks for reminding me," Wan'er replied to Su Mei irritably. She stepped onto the ground in her grey sneakers, and her slender, tall figure emerged from the low car door...
"Can't you get this straight? I promised your aunt and uncle I'd take good care of you." Su Mei sighed and got out of the car.
"Thanks." A hint of sorrow appeared on Wan'er's pretty face, illuminated by the yellow chrysanthemum. Three whole years have passed, Mom and Dad! Are you doing well over there?
Wan'er took a few steps, looked up at the mountainside not far away, and gazed wistfully, "Mom and Dad, I've come to see you."
She blinked her long eyelashes, two lines of tears rolling down her cheeks. Wan'er sniffed, looked down at the chrysanthemum on her chest, and continued forward...
The valley was deserted, surrounded by mountains and overgrown with weeds, as if it were isolated from the world.
"Oh my god, the weeds are so thick and tall, it's so dark. Wan'er, wait for me," Su Mei followed behind Wan'er...
The chill of the surroundings touched a nerve deep within Su Mei's soul. A gust of cold wind stung the back of her neck, and she hunched her shoulders, quickening her pace to take Wan'er's arm...
