"Isn't the murderer you? That's strange. You actually asked to be brought to justice. Do you want to recant your confession and deny that you are the murderer?" Wen Long grinned and sneered. "A high-ranking official in the Spirit Realm, once you've made your promise, how can you go back on your word? Lord Zhuoyue, don't you understand this?"
“Your Majesty, I certainly understand the situation. My request to be brought to justice is because I do not wish to disrespect the power of the spirit world, nor do I wish to desecrate its authority. Therefore, I also request that Your Majesty uphold justice and imprison the Firebird.”
"What do you mean by this? I personally pardoned the Firebird. Are you questioning my decision?" Wen Long's face showed anger as he heard the implication in Zhuo Yue's words. "Or do you mean you'd rather serve the law than give me your true heart?"
“My true heart has long been given to all the people of the spirit world,” Zhuoyue clenched his fists and pressed them to his chest, shaking his head with a bitter smile and a helpless expression. “As for the Firebird, it killed my daughter and several other newborn babies for its own selfish grudge. It was the King’s father who personally imprisoned it in the Heavenly Prison and promised all the spirits that it would never be released. The King’s father is wise and powerful, and the decision he made was absolutely correct. Besides, even if such a heinous criminal is pardoned, he still has to go through a three-court trial before a final judgment can be made. I’m afraid it’s not something the King can decide alone.”
"You, how dare you!" Seeing that he was questioning his authority, Wen Long's face turned ashen, and his fingers, hidden in his black robe, tightened.
"I dare not," Zhuoyue said, bowing his head, seemingly frightened but very calm. "I was just doing my best to remind the king not to go astray."
Excellent! How dare you say that? It seems you're just a stinking, hard rock that fell into a cesspool!
Wen Long pursed his lips, a hint of murderous intent flashing in his eyes, but it quickly faded. He swallowed hard. "Well, what's past is past. We can't keep dwelling on it. Besides, Firebird has shown remorse. She was just momentarily overcome with anger and lost her temper. So many years have passed, why should you hold such a grudge?"
"Your Majesty, those are lives at stake! He did it intentionally, how could it be an accident? How can you dismiss it so lightly?" Unable to believe what she was hearing, Zhuoyue stared wide-eyed, tears welling in her eyes, as if she didn't recognize Wen Long.
"Hmph! Do you think I need to tell me what to do?" Wen Long sneered, slowly turning around to face Zhuo Yue. "To tell you the truth, I just want to borrow something from you. If you give it to me, I might consider granting your wish to treat the Firebird however you want."
No wonder you've been arguing with me all this time, so this is the key point. Zhuoyue was startled, but could only pretend to be calm and kept his head slightly lowered. "Your Majesty has everything you want, but Zhuoyue is penniless. I'm afraid there's nothing of yours that would catch Your Majesty's eye."
"Stop pretending with me. There's something that only your family has," Wen Long said, then suddenly turned around, still with his hands behind his back, and walked towards Zhuo Yue. "Give me your family's Illusionary Spirit Pill, and I'll consider it a meritorious act of offering a treasure. With the merit and demerit canceled out, everything else can be discussed."
"Illusion, Illusion Spirit Pill?" Zhuoyue felt a chill in his heart. It was exactly what he feared. "To be honest, Your Majesty, the Illusion Spirit Pill was lost long ago. Besides, this thing carries evil energy."
"You cunning Zhuoyue, you actually dare to try and fool me!" Wen Long looked at Zhuoyue, his expression unchanged. "Oh, then tell me, when was it lost? Perhaps I can help you find the Illusionary Spirit Pill..."
