Xiao Su Mei looked up and glanced around. Her gaze then settled on a small earthen slope about five meters to her left. Under a large tree on the top of the slope, there was a clump of grass. Deep within the grass, something seemed to be swaying and trembling slightly.
The faint crying sound came from there.
Without hesitation, Xiao Sumei turned to the left and, like a fluttering butterfly, quickly ran forward.
The woman snapped out of her daze and, startled, quickly chased after him, crying, "Meimei, don't go! Be careful of snakes..."
Seeing Su Mei running towards the grass, the woman panicked and, "Thump!" her toe kicked a protruding rock, and "Thump!" she fell forward to the ground...
"Mom, come quick! It's not a snake, it's really my little sister!" Su Mei exclaimed excitedly, turning around to call out to her mother.
At this moment, the mother was lying on the ground, sweat pouring down her face even more profusely. Her stomach was in so much pain that she could only curl up in front of her chest. But soon, she felt something strange at the hem of her trousers. Some sticky stuff was flowing down her thigh.
The woman looked down and saw a trickle of blood flowing from her trouser leg.
A sharp pain in my lower abdomen, accompanied by a sudden feeling of embarrassment—something seems off this time. I haven't had my period for almost two months, and now it's come so suddenly…
"Honey, why haven't you come to pick us up yet?" Feeling helpless, the young woman's brows furrowed even more deeply.
"Mom, why did you fall?" Little Su Mei turned around and saw her mother lying on her side on the ground. She quickly ran back and reached out her little hand to help her mother up. "Get up quickly, look, there really is a little sister."
The little girl, naturally unaware of her mother's pain, held her mother's hands while her eyes gazed at the grass...
"Really? Really?" Looking into the child's clear eyes, the woman tried to stand up, but as soon as she moved her legs, she felt a piercing pain from her lower abdomen. For a moment, she couldn't stand, so she could only move her feet, step by step, forward. "Meimei, clear away the grass..."
"Mom, look!" Little Su Mei blushed and was full of excitement. She let go of her mother and ran over, brushed the grass with her little hands, and looked back at her mother. "My little sister is right here."
In the middle of the dense grass, there was a small, sparse patch where a tattered cloth was spread out. On top of the cloth was a child wrapped up like a dumpling. A couple of flies were buzzing around the grass. Perhaps the child hadn't been left there for very long...
The young mother strained to look up and examine the scene...
"Waaah..." The child's cries were a little hoarse, indicating that he had been crying for some time.
"Mommy, look, it's my little sister..." Little Su Mei was certain it was her little sister. She suddenly stepped forward, her face flushed, and bent down, using all her strength to pick up the baby from the ground.
"Hey, you!" Her action startled the young mother. The woman, enduring the pain, managed to stand up, supporting herself on her arms. She took two steps forward and caught the child. "Meimei, you silly child, aren't you afraid..."
The woman bent down and carefully untied the strips of cloth covering the child, examining him closely before finally letting out a sigh of relief.
Sure enough, there was a newborn baby girl in front of me. She was still wet all over. As soon as the rag was removed, she, who had been stretching out, curled up her little hands and feet in front of her chest. The little girl had all her limbs intact and had not been bitten by mosquitoes.
Holding her child, the young mother looked around the woods and shouted, "Who did this? Who left their child here?"
