There seems to be a murderous aura! Just as Wan'er was about to get up, Mercury casually closed the door.
"Knock knock knock!" Just as I locked the door, a heavy knocking sound came from outside.
Why would anyone be knocking at the door at this hour? Wan'er reached out to open the door, but Mercury grabbed her arm. "They might be after you."
"Attack me?" Wan'er's eyes darted around; this was Liu Chang'an's house.
"Tell Ye Wan'er to come out." The voice outside the door was vicious, indeed calling her name. "Someone saw you come back. Don't even think about hiding. You've ruined my Chang'an..."
"Wan'er, go inside. I'll hold them off." Mercury reached out and pulled Wan'er behind him, then stood by the door.
“Open the door,” Wan’er said fearlessly, shaking her head as she stepped forward. “Do you think they can do anything to me? I can turn into a petal and drift away anywhere. But something’s strange about this. Don’t you think their families already knew I fell into the river? How could they know I was back so quickly?”
"You mean there are demons manipulating things, and they're just stalling for time?" Mercury slapped his forehead, shook his head, and sighed, "Luckily, Wan'er is smart."
“So let’s open the door. What’s meant to come will come eventually. It’s better to save them from making a wasted trip. We might as well close the door and beat them.” Wan’er nodded, a cold glint in her eyes. “It’ll be better for us to leave here.”
“Okay,” Mercury nodded, took a deep breath, stepped forward, and opened the door. Outside were men, women, and children—about five or six in total.
Walking in front was a short old woman. When she saw Wan'er, she gritted her teeth in hatred. She rushed forward, grabbed Wan'er's arm, and shook it while crying, "It's you! You've ruined my child! He was the hope of our whole family!"
A faint black aura rose from the old woman's body.
"Who told you I was back?" Wan'er didn't move, just stood there letting him shake her. "If I remember correctly, you've already gone back to the countryside?"
"This!" The old woman was stunned, but Wan'er's eyes already gleamed with a red light. She raised her hand and wiped it away from the crowd in front of her...
"Ahhh!" A flash of red light appeared, followed by screams of agony, and the figure vanished in an instant.
Bats fell to the ground one by one.
"So this place has long been their lair." Mercury sighed, raising his hand to brush away the monsters on the ground.
"We can't linger here any longer, let's go quickly." Wan'er turned around, found a piece of clothing to wrap the little black dog, and was about to stride forward.
"Hahaha! You think that's all?" A loud laugh suddenly came from the rooftop. "I'm waiting for you in the cave. I'm going to give you a big gift. Just wait and see."
"You actually came too!"
"No, I didn't come, because there is a soul that I must personally guard."
"Oh no, this demon!" Upon hearing this, Wan'er ran out and turned to look at the roof, but there was nothing there.
With the little black dog in tow, Wan'er ran towards her car like an arrow released from a bow.
"Slow down, don't rush, Wan'er." Mercury closed the door behind her and rushed out of the room.
"You, you're gone?" The old man from before walked towards them, nearly bumping into Mercury first, and greeted them in surprise, "Why did you run away so fast?"
"Thank you in advance, sir, but we have things to attend to at home," Mercury could only reply.
"Uh, go ahead, I'll take care of things here." The old man took a few steps, then stopped, looking at them with great confusion. He hadn't brought a dog with him when he came, so how did a dog end up here?
