Chapter 3 Bubbles Emerging from the Grave

Su Mei reached out to help Wan'er up, but couldn't lift her up.

Wan'er gazed at the gravesite, silently weeping—Dad, Mom, what's wrong? You begged me to save the creatures in the gravesite, and told me not to be sad no matter what I see.

But I never imagined it would turn out like this. How can you not be heartbroken? Tell me, why is this happening? Why did this happen? Or perhaps, this was all just a dream.

Besides, winter is approaching, even the birds are about to migrate, so where would any living beings come from in the graveyard? Dad, Mom! What should I do?

"Digging up someone's ancestral graves, ptooey! Wait a minute, even though Uncle and Auntie were buried in the ground, they didn't bury anything valuable..."

Su Mei was so frightened that she blurted out something incoherent. She looked down at Wan'er, whose eyes were filled with tears and whose expression was even more sorrowful.

Su Mei realized she had said something wrong, and angrily slapped her mouth, "I told you not to talk nonsense..."

“Dream…” Wan’er shrugged her shoulders and mumbled a single word.

"What did you say?" Su Mei, caught up in self-reproach, didn't hear clearly at first.

"It's nothing," Wan'er sighed, saying nothing more. She raised her arms and kowtowed several times towards the grave. Su Mei stood beside her and followed suit, bowing repeatedly.

When she straightened up, Wan'er's face was deathly pale. She clutched her clothes to her chest with one hand and stared at the puddle.

"Gurgle!" Just then, a bubble suddenly appeared in the mud on the left front of the grave. The bubble was not big, but Wan'er could see it clearly.

Seemingly remembering something, her expression darkened as she stood up. She glanced down at the wet mud on her knees, then took off her shoes and, disregarding everything, began to walk down the edge of the cemetery…

"What are you doing?" Startled by her actions, Su Mei jumped up and grabbed her arm...

“Meimei, listen to me, this pit is at least two meters above the ground, but there’s nothing in it…” Wan’er made an excuse and raised her hand to wipe away her tears. “I remember when they buried me, they said it was 1.5 meters above the ground. If that’s the case, we should at least have found the coffin by now, but there’s nothing here. I have to go down and take a look.”

Go down and take a look? This is way too much information! Su Mei felt her head spinning.

"Wait, this is terrifying. We can't be impulsive. Let's... let's get some professionals here again." The thought of the exposed bones made Su Mei feel something stuck in her throat, making it difficult to speak. She quickly glanced around, and every pore on her body seemed to tighten.

“The nearest houses are a mile or two away. Sending someone back and forth would take up a lot of time. No way!” Wan’er stared at the spot where the bubbles had just appeared, now only a calm surface remained.

Anxious, she flung Su Mei's hand away, walked to the side, picked a relatively thick tree branch, rolled up her trousers, and decisively walked down from the corner of the graveyard. The muddy water was sticky and quickly submerged her beautiful, fair feet.

"Mom and Dad, I'm sorry, your daughter is unfilial and has disturbed you. But I will be more careful..." Feeling somewhat disrespectful with her feet on her parents' graves, Ye Wan'er choked back tears, bowed several times before bending down and carefully scraping the muddy ground with a stick...

At this moment, her expression was frighteningly solemn.

"Wan'er, can you please stop? I can hardly breathe." Su Mei's voice trembled, fearing that Ye Wan'er would cut open the bones.

She could only squat to one side, covering her face with her hands, peering at the muddy ground through her fingers...
