"You think this cat is really valuable?" In the dim light, Lin Fang squatted down beside the cat, looking at the blue cat in the small iron cage.
"Weren't you going to be the blue scarf?" A hoarse voice came from behind Lin Fang. "What, changed your mind?"
"Not necessarily. A scarf? That sounds good too." Lin Fang's eyes gleamed with greed. She reached her left hand to the ground beside her feet, picked up a wire, threaded it through the iron fence, and poked it at Blue Cat.
At this moment, Blue Cat felt a pain below his ear. He twitched his ear, but still lay there listlessly.
"Don't poke him, he'll be worthless if you break him." The hoarse voice snapped, and Lin Fang reluctantly threw away the wire.
“I’m thinking, you’re right. Even though she gave me 5,000 yuan, what can I do with that little money? I should still make the most of Blue Cat’s value.” Lin Fang didn’t turn around; her eyes remained fixed on Blue Cat’s dark blue fur. “I just don’t know whether its pelt is more valuable when it’s dead, or more valuable when it’s alive?”
"Greedy!" the person behind her muttered softly. Lin Fang turned around and saw a short man standing behind her, less than 1.6 meters tall. The man was short and stocky, with a greasy, square face covered with pockmarked, dark gray pimples. His eyes, squeezed into his flesh, were just thin slits.
“I’ve never seen a cat like this before. Judging by its appearance, it seems to be in good condition. I have an idea; we can go to the spirit item market and ask about the price.” The man raised his left arm, an unlit cigarette between his large, fleshy fingers. Because his face was expressionless, his eyes, hidden in his fleshy slits, appeared unusually large.
"A market for spirit items?" Lin Fang blinked, looking at the short man in a daze. "I've never heard of it."
“It’s normal that you haven’t heard of it.” The man reached into his pocket and pulled out a lighter. “Pfft!” He turned on the light and lit a cigarette. “Once you meet Brother Crocodile, you’ll see things that you women have never seen in your entire lives.”
The man triumphantly rolled up the sleeve of his sweater, revealing a tattooed blue crocodile head on his left forearm.
Perhaps intentionally showing off, Crocodile Brother then casually flicked one arm, producing a cigar from who-knows-where. The cigar spun in the air before landing steadily between his fingers. Crocodile Brother glanced at Lin Fang, then flicked his other sleeve, revealing a snake-shaped lighter in his palm. Crocodile Brother's series of movements were clean and efficient, seemingly incongruous with his bulky physique.
"Brother, you're amazing!" Lin Fang stood up excitedly, clapping her hands and saying, "Brother, you're definitely the boss."
After Lin Fang stood up, she was a head taller than Crocodile Brother.
"What's so special about that? You're just all talk. Alright, I'll take you to the spirit item market. I guarantee you'll be amazed." Crocodile Bro was a little smug. He raised his head and reached out to pinch Lin Fang's chin.
“But the place you mentioned sounds terrifying just from the name. Can’t we just take its fur ourselves and then process it? Or can we just ask for an exorbitant price and sell it to someone who wants to sell it…” Lin Fang turned around and pointed to the blue cat in the cage.
"Hmph! I advise you to save your breath. This cat looks a bit mysterious; neither of us is likely capable of subduing it. In my experience, it's best not to make a move. One wrong move, and you might not only ruin its fur but also bring bad luck upon yourself. Last year, a brother of mine, also a skeptic, somehow got hold of a roe deer and was about to kill it on the spot, even saying he'd treat us to a meal, but…"
