Everyone had gone to work by then, and there weren't many people in the neighborhood. Ye Wan'er, holding the kitten, reached out to open the car door, carrying her shoes and clothes in her other hand, and walked barefoot, gritting her teeth and tiptoeing, hurried towards the last building on the right...
"Wan'er, can't you just leave him?" Watching Wan'er leave, Su Mei leaned out of the car window and called out to Wan'er's retreating figure in a low voice, "Leave him at the entrance of the community, someone will take him in. If you want a pet, you can buy a normal, pretty one..."
"A pet?" Wan'er, who had reached the top of the stairs, raised her eyebrows, stopped and turned around, looking at Su Mei with a half-smile. "That's a good suggestion. If he can get through this, I'll keep him as a pet."
After Wan'er finished speaking, she carried the kitten upstairs...
What is a pet? The kitten asked, puzzled.
"You're just stubborn," Su Mei said, watching Ye Wan leave. She could only sigh.
"Go back! Take care of him, I'll contact you if anything comes up." Standing by the railing by the second-floor door, Ye Wan'er placed the kitten's front paws on the railing and waved to Su Mei.
Su Mei shook her head. Just as the car window was about to close, she saw a sharp glint in the kitten's eyes...
"How about I stay and help you?" Su Mei said again as the car window was half closed.
"Stop nagging and get to work! I told you I'd call you if I needed anything." Wan'er ignored her, turned around, and took out her keys...
Watching Wan'er enter the room, Su Mei sighed and drove away.
The house in front of us was just bought by my parents with half their life savings, but then they met with misfortune.
The spacious three-bedroom, two-living-room apartment was furnished with lights, painted walls, and a set of light blue furniture; the decor was extremely simple.
And all of this was handled by Wan'er alone after her parents passed away.
Wan'er casually closed the open security door, slipped on a pair of sandals placed by the door, picked up the kitten, turned and walked to the middle of the living room, habitually facing the wall on her right...
Below the wall was a rectangular TV cabinet, but there was no TV on it. Instead, a 24-inch family photo hung on the wall directly above the cabinet.
The figure is half-figured, with a light green background of flowers. Wan'er stands on the left, slightly bent over, with her arms outstretched, holding the shoulders of a middle-aged woman with long curly hair who is sitting on a white chair.
The woman's features were very similar to Wan'er's, but she had a more mature air about her.
To the woman's right stood a refined-looking man wearing silver-rimmed glasses...
"Mom and Dad, I'm back, and I brought this kitten with me. But we're covered in mud, so we need to take a shower first..." Wan'er hurriedly greeted her parents, then turned around, clutching the kitten and her dirty clothes...
These are her parents. Just as they were leaving, the kitten looked up and glanced again at the woman in the photo, the one with dimples on her cheeks…
"Ugh, so much mud! These clothes are ruined." Shaking her head, Wan'er went into the bathroom, threw her clothes and shoes into the bucket next to her, and bent down to place the kitten against the wall.
Then he turned around and went to the side to wash his hands.
The bathroom was nice, well-ventilated and warm. Facing the bright window and the turned-on lights, the kitten squinted its eyes, seemingly relieved.
Wan'er walked up to the kitten, squatted down, and gently touched its body and ears with her fingers. She then checked its breathing. "Hmm, its breathing is a bit smoother. You have such a strong will to live! Wait, I'll clean you up right away..."
"Wash me? You!" The kitten's heart skipped a beat.
