“I know anything can happen in this world, but I need evidence.” Wan’er looked coldly at Er Gouzi.
“You’ve really grown up.” Mercury smiled and nodded. “Actually, it’s very easy to prove. When you were little, I held you in my arms. You had a birthmark under your left armpit, which was the mark of a saint…”
Wan'er was taken aback. Apart from her parents and herself, no one else had ever known about this.
"You, you really are my uncle!" The fierce look in her eyes quickly faded, and Wan'er, with tears in her eyes, reached out and took Er Gou's hand. "But why are you..."
"Alas! A devastating disaster forced me to leave the aquatic tribe." Er Gouzi sighed and shook his head. "I pretended to be stupid because I had no other choice. I am not Er Gouzi. The real Er Gouzi drowned three years ago. His fate was sealed."
I happened to be there at the time and tried my best to save him, but ultimately I couldn't escape his fate. So I borrowed his body and returned to the human world.
“Uncle!” She reached out and hugged Shui Xing’s shoulder. A long-lost warmth dispelled Wan’er’s guard, and she burst into tears. “My mother never told me that I had an uncle.”
"Because she can't tell you." Er Gou gave a bitter smile, reached out and patted Wan'er's back, his eyes full of heartache. "She has always been careful to protect her identity, to protect you and your father, so how could she possibly tell you these things?"
"But Uncle, I don't think I'm anything special!"
“All along, you have remained human. Your spirituality has never been awakened, which is why those bad people have tried every means to find you.” Er Gouzi, no, Uncle Mercury, felt guilty and his eyes were complicated. “If I could protect you, I would rather keep this a secret forever.”
"I think I understand. Thank you, Uncle. What should I do next?"
"Find the spiritual power your mother sealed away. She will help you go home and open a rectangular wooden box. Then you will naturally know what to do next. What your uncle wants to tell you is that once this begins and your identity is confirmed, there will probably never be a peaceful day again."
"What does it matter? I just want to know, is there still a chance I'll see my mom and dad again?"
"I can't guarantee that, but anything is possible. Perhaps once the calamity is over, you'll be able to see them again." Mercury sighed and gently pushed Wan'er away.
His deep tone and sorrowful expression deeply affected Wan'er. In that instant, Wan'er seemed to have grown up a lot. She gritted her teeth, stared ahead, and said with exceptional determination, "If all of this is true, Uncle, Wan'er will do everything in her power to reunite our family."
“Good child, I knew we hadn’t spoiled you for nothing,” Mercury nodded, very pleased. “Everything started because of you, and hope will end because of you.”
As she uttered these words, Mercury's eyes welled with tears.
"Uncle, what do you mean by that?"
“Ah,” seeing Wan’er looking at him, Mercury realized he might have said something wrong. He lowered his head and pondered for a moment, then raised his head and let out a long sigh. “Alright, it’s time you knew the reason behind this. Actually, in ancient times, our aquatic tribe established a rule for itself: no member of the aquatic tribe may associate or fall in love with greedy and selfish humans…”
“But as far as I know, not all humans are bad people.” Wan’er shook her head.
