Chapter 109 Hearing the Ghost's Plea

“Around eight or nine o’clock last night, someone saw a girl jump from here…” A short, thin old woman turned around and looked at Wan’er. “I heard she was very young, probably around your age. Sigh, what’s wrong with young people these days? Why can’t they live a good life? What can’t they understand?”

As the old woman spoke, she shook her head, her slightly hunched back hunched, and put her hands behind her back. She turned around and walked a few steps along the railing, then turned back again and walked a few steps closer to the riverbank down the stone steps below the right bank, muttering as she walked, "They've been searching for so long, this person has probably already flowed downstream."

"Oh?" For some unknown reason, Wan'er actually lifted her foot and followed.

It must have been raining these past few days; the river, a hundred meters wide, was flowing quite rapidly, and the water was somewhat murky. The two tour boats separated and began searching downstream...

But something's not right! Wan'er sniffed, and there was a trace of resentment and unwillingness in the air, drifting from the river not far away, faintly irritating her nostrils.

Out of curiosity, Wan'er gently pushed the old woman aside, stepped in front of her, and stood on the stone step closest to the water. The gently rippling river water occasionally brushed against the toes of her sneakers.

Turning her head and following the scent, Wan'er looked towards the bottom of the water to her left. A red light flickered in her eyes as she spotted a wisp of black mist faintly beneath a protruding rock...

The resentment from earlier had come from there. Unable to let the deceased remain trapped under the reef, Wan'er, in a moment of anxiety, waved and shouted towards the small boat, which was already hundreds of meters away, "Hey, she's over here, come here!"

"Splash!" The helmsman, who was rowing the boat, seemed to hear Wan'er's cry. He turned around, waved to Wan'er, then turned back, lowered his head, and began to poke the long bamboo pole into the riverbed near the boat again and again...

"Did you hear that? I said she might be here." Wan'er stood up, cupped her hands to her mouth again, and shouted.

"Girl, stop shouting. This place has been robbed so many times already," the old woman who had been standing behind her reached out and tugged at Wan'er's arm, shaking her head at her. This girl is so pretty, why is she so foolish?

"But, but I saw people down there!" Wan'er pointed to the bottom of the river and explained anxiously.

"You'd better hurry up and go up, don't stay so close," the old woman said, pulling her up a few stone steps before letting go. She then went up the riverbank herself and walked to one side, glancing back at Wan'er before leaving. "Such a good child, yet she's spouting nonsense. What's wrong with this world?"

"Ah, you!" The old woman's words startled Wan'er. She turned around and stared blankly at the muddy river.

If you tell someone you saw someone underwater, even when you're more than ten meters below the surface, who would believe you?

Forget it, it's better to rely on yourself than others. Seeing how young and pitiful they are, I'll go into the water myself...

Thinking of this, Wan'er raised her hand to take off her coat, preparing to go downstairs again.

"Hehe!" A hand landed on her shoulder. Wan'er turned around and saw Shui Xing's silly smile. He had taken off one side of his coat, with one sleeve hanging down to his right waist. The buttons at his waist were fastened diagonally. He deliberately curled one hand in front of him, and after patting Wan'er's shoulder with the other hand, he put it in his mouth and sucked on it, with drool dripping from the corner of his mouth.
