Chapter 85. What He Yan has decided, no…

Wen Xue was very focused while eating.

Although He Yan already knew her habits, she barely spoke during the entire dinner, which still made him feel uneasy.

This is not Lin Bozhou's fault.

It was his oversight, and this served as a wake-up call for him. Secretly, he was indeed helping Zhou Zhan. After all, he had investigated the Zhou family and Wanbo in his previous life and had a deeper understanding of some information. However, openly, he did not want Zhou Xian to discover his dealings with Zhou Zhan.

Because of this, it was only a matter of time before Zhou Xian noticed Wen Xue beside him.

This is the situation he resisted.

"Have some soup."

He Yan reached out and touched the soup bowl. The temperature had dropped, so he pushed it toward her. "Cui Ye said the fish maw chicken soup here tastes good."

Wen Xue gave a soft "hmm".

She picked up the spoon and took a few sips. Only she knew that at this moment, she seemed to have lost her sense of taste, unable to taste the sour, sweet, bitter, or spicy flavors, only feeling a tired and powerless feeling.

In the afternoon in the room, his tone was gentle, but he was firm in his stance, as if it were something he had already decided on.

She really had no other options.

He Yan took care of her the whole time, but didn't eat much himself. Huacheng was more bustling than Xicheng, so he could only try to distract her and clumsily try to cheer her up, "There's a big shopping mall nearby, shall we go shopping after we finish eating?"

Wen Xue could hear the caution in his tone. Normally, she would have agreed, but she was very tired today.

I was so worried last night that I didn't sleep at all, and I only managed to doze off for a while on the plane today. I'm just barely holding on, both physically and mentally.

Under his gaze, she shook her head: "No, I want to go to bed early tonight."

He Yan was slightly taken aback. Looking at the dark circles under her eyes, he felt a pang of unease. "Okay."

After the meal, he paid the bill and they walked out of the restaurant.

The evening breeze was warm, and a light show was playing on the building across the street. Wen Xue looked into the distance, searched his mind, and remembered hearing someone say there was an even more exciting show while he was playing golf earlier that day. He then whispered, "Want to go for a drive? There's a fountain and a light show over there."

Wen Xue was silent for a moment, then said, "Next time."

He Yan looked at her with mixed feelings, but did not force her.

The restaurant wasn't too far from the hotel. He rolled down the car window and glanced at her every now and then. "Don't worry about me. There are plenty of people around Zhou Zhan. I'm nothing."

Wen Xue thought to herself, "You may not mean much to Zhou Zhan, but you are very important to me, and you clearly know that."

She turned her head to face the window, letting the wind blow away the mist in her eyes, "Mmm."

"You should get some rest today," he said, gripping the steering wheel with a relaxed tone unique to He Yan, as if nothing was on his mind. "I'll take you to have some fun in Huacheng tomorrow, and then I'll take you to the airport the day after tomorrow morning."

She didn't say anything, focusing intently on the scenery outside the window.

Upon arriving at the hotel, He Yan wanted to chat with her some more, about anything at all. He saw her to the door, one of them outside and the other inside. She lowered her head and said softly, "Well then, I'll rest now."

He Yan's gaze was deep and somber.

Finally, he could only nod. "Call me if you need anything. You know my room number; it's not far from here."

"good."

With a click, the door closed.

He Yan didn't leave immediately. He stood at the door, the light from above casting a shadow on the carpet. Every now and then, guests would pass by and glance at him curiously, wondering what he was doing standing there like that.

A few minutes later, he turned around, walked through the winding corridor, and headed towards the elevator lobby.

Wen Xue arrived in a hurry with very little luggage. She stood under the shower, letting the hot water wash away the fatigue of the day's journey.

She couldn't help but wonder, if Wu Yuejiang were here today, would he...?

No, it won't happen.

He kept it from Wu Yuejiang, which meant that he had to do these things. She suddenly remembered that Wu Yuejiang looked hesitant after dropping her off at the airport that morning. Did he already guess that this would be the result?

Wen Xue came out of the bathroom and stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.

It was her first time visiting Huacheng, but she had no interest in appreciating the night view in the distance that shimmered like a silver river.

There was a rhythmic knocking at the door; it was He Yan.

She pulled her bathrobe tighter, went over and opened the door. He stood tall in the doorway, blocking most of the light, a smile on his sharply defined face. He handed her a glass bottle containing warm milk.

His life experiences seem rich, but he is emotionally barren.

Sending milk is a way of showing concern for her, and also a way of proactively apologizing.

Wen Xue took it, feeling the warmth in her palm. Her nose tingled slightly. She had no right to blame or order him around. Although he hadn't told her anything, he must have his reasons. She understood. She really understood.

She didn't blame him.

She was just very worried about him.

He Yan felt relieved. He, who never blew his hair, noticed that her hair ends were wet. "Why didn't you blow-dry your hair?"

"I'll blow it in a bit."

Hearing her tone soften, his smile deepened. He raised his hand and touched her hair. "Alright, drink your milk first, then blow-dry your hair and get a good night's sleep."

He Yan went back to his room and took a cold shower. He casually draped a towel over his shoulder and sat on the sofa, sorting through the events of the day. He sent a message to Zhou Zhan. During this time, the two Zhou brothers continued their open and covert struggle, and waiting for each other to reveal their true colors would definitely be a protracted battle. Neither of them wanted to make any rash moves.

He frowned, also thinking about how to change the seemingly stable situation.

At least it forced Zhou Xianxian to take action.

My phone is vibrating.

Zhou Zhan replied: [Don't worry]

He Yan tossed his phone aside, leaned back on the sofa, and wondered where he should take Wen Xue tomorrow. What were the attractions in Huacheng? He grabbed his phone and sent another message to Cui Ye: "What are some good restaurants and fun attractions in Huacheng?"

On the other side, Cui Ye looked at the message and thought he was seeing things.

After realizing what had happened, she teased him: "What? A date?"

He Yan stared at those two words and, for the first time ever, did not deny them. Outside the French windows, the neon lights stayed on all night.

The hotel bed was more comfortable than the dormitory bed, with better soundproofing and more comfortable air conditioning, but Wenxue still couldn't fall asleep. She tossed and turned in bed, feeling as if a stone was pressing on her heart, heavy and suffocating, and she almost couldn't breathe.

She rarely does impulsive things.

The few items that exist all seem to be related to He Yan.

As dawn broke, she threw off the covers and got out of bed, stepping barefoot onto the soft carpet. She went to the French windows, where only a sliver of light could be seen on the horizon. The entire window became a mirror, reflecting her gloomy face.

Wen Xue quickly pulled the curtains shut, not wanting to watch today's sunrise.

She turned around, changed her clothes, washed up, packed her few belongings, took her room key, went out, took the elevator to the front desk to check out, and as she walked through the hotel's revolving door, it was only just dawn. She glanced back at the hotel's fountain one last time, then hailed a taxi by the roadside: "Driver, to the South Station."

While tossing and turning in the early hours of the morning, she used her phone to buy a high-speed rail ticket back to Xicheng for the morning.

There was no point in staying in Huacheng. She knew he was busy with work and social engagements, and she didn't want to bother him... Besides, she had things on her mind, so it was hard for her to relax and be happy. She was also very tired.

When He Yan woke up, he picked up his phone and glanced at it.

Seven o'clock in the morning, this is Wen Xue's biological clock, and also his. He sat on the edge of the bed, opened the chat box with her, wanting to ask if she had gotten up, but then deleted the edited content one by one, put the phone aside, and helplessly rubbed his hair.

Never mind, she probably hasn't woken up yet, let her sleep a little longer.

Thinking back to her sudden arrival in Huacheng yesterday, He Yan had to admit that among the mixed feelings, there was definitely one called surprise.

No one has ever been like Wen Xue, who would drop everything and rush to his side simply because she was worried about him.

Another hour passed.

The sun had already risen, and the sunlight outside the French windows was so intense it was blinding. There were several messages on He Yan's phone, but none of them were from Wen Xue. He frowned, a bad feeling creeping over him, which was confirmed the next second.

My phone vibrated.

Wenxue's message came in: [Image]

He eagerly clicked on it, and his brows furrowed. It was a photo of a train ticket.

The date is today, the destination is Xicheng South Station, the departure time is 7:40, and almost half an hour has passed.

He suddenly stood up.

Wen Xue: [You go ahead with your work, I'm going back to Xicheng first. I have class tomorrow, don't worry, I'll take good care of myself.]

After sending the message, she looked out the train window, the warm sunlight shining on her face. Yesterday she did something impulsive, and today she did something willful.

Wu Yuejiang was woken up by the phone call. He squinted and saw that it was He Yan calling. As soon as he answered, he was about to curse a few words as usual when the other end spoke in a deep voice before he could finish: "I'll make it short. Wen Xue is taking a car back to Xicheng alone. I'm on my way to the airport now. I'll take the earliest flight back, but I probably won't make it in time to pick her up. Can you go to the South Station to pick her up for me?"

After he finished speaking, his rapid breathing could be heard, indicating that he was running.

Wu Yuejiang understood what was going on.

He had guessed this would be the outcome yesterday. He knew He Yan too well. He always said He Heng was stubborn, but actually He Yan, as the eldest brother, was even more stubborn.

Once He Yan sets his mind on something, no matter how difficult it is, he will definitely do it.

He couldn't stop her, and neither could Wen Xue.

"Listen to me, don't come back," Wu Yuejiang said earnestly.

He Yan remained silent, his breathing uneven, clearly not listening.

Wu Yuejiang had no choice but to resort to drastic measures: "If you're a man, don't pressure her. She's not going to run away from Xicheng. Would it kill you to give her a little time?"

He Yan stopped in his tracks. "What do you mean?"

"I also want to ask you what you mean?" Wu Yuejiang said sternly. "What, you got involved in those things without saying a word, and now you don't even let people ask? Have you thought about what would happen to me, my sister, and all of us who care about you if something happened to you?"

"Fine, if we can't stop you, we won't stop you either!" Wu Yuejiang took a deep breath. "But if you chase her back, aren't you just cornering her? Don't you think about why she took a car and left so early in the morning? It's because she didn't want to stay any longer. Can't you give her some time to accept it?"

Amidst the flow of traffic, a taxi stopped in front of He Yan.

Seeing that he wasn't getting on the bus, the driver rolled down the window and called out, "Are you going or not?"

He Yan's hand gripped the phone tightly, veins bulging, jaw clenched. "I'm not leaving."

The driver stepped on the gas and drove away.

Wu Yuejiang naturally overheard the conversation and said slowly, "Think carefully about what I said. Don't worry, I will go to the station to pick up Wenxue."

A long silence followed.

He Yan's low voice came from the other end of the phone: "Take her out to eat. There's a hot pot restaurant near the south gate of the school that she really likes. Also, buy her some fruit, kiwis and grapes are fine... Take her to her dormitory before you leave."
