Chapter 10.010. He knew Wen Xue was still so young, and in the future…
Two people are not many, but three people are too many.
Wu Yuejiang realized that he was the one who was superfluous. Although he didn't plan to go with them anymore, he still said sarcastically, "Do you know which home furnishing store to take her to?"
He Yan really had no idea.
Because he had never bought proper furniture. When he was short of money, he would just buy beds and wardrobes from secondhand stores. When he had money, he would just have his assistant buy them. Even in his previous life, he had never studied these things.
Whether the furniture is made of precious wood or not doesn't affect his ability to sleep on it.
He didn't care.
Seeing He Yan remain silent, Wu Yuejiang shook his head and sighed in a mock manner, and told him the name of a large home furnishing mall, "Young girls should like to go there to shop. They have all kinds of things, big and small. Some people can spend a whole day there."
He Yan has no dating experience, nor has he ever interacted with young women outside of work.
The women in his life were either older or his employees.
So he didn't know what they liked, nor had he considered the question. Wu Yuejiang used to advise He Yan not to just focus on making money, but to at least care about his marriage prospects. At that time, He Yan would scoff, deftly pry open a beer bottle, and act completely indifferent.
Now that Wu Yuejiang is in charge, he no longer says these things; he has neither the time nor the energy.
He Yan was skeptical of his opinion: "Are you sure young girls like going there?"
“I’m sure. It’s not just young girls who like it; I like it too.” Wu Yuejiang pushed up his glasses and said calmly.
He Yan decided to believe it for the time being.
After all, Wu Yuejiang has a younger sister.
In the afternoon, Wu Yuejiang was going out to meet with the bank manager. Only He Yan was in the office. After finishing his work, he picked up the landline, dialed the internal number, and asked Wang Yuan to come in. Less than two minutes later, the tall, thin man knocked on the door, holding a cup of milk tea. He came over with a big smile and said ingratiatingly, "Brother Yan, it's a new milk tea shop that opened in Xingguang Plaza. It's on me. Everyone in the company gets one, and you get one too."
"What good thing happened?" He Yan didn't answer.
Wang Yuan is a good person in every way, except for one thing: he's stingy.
At least in my past life, the only time I reached the standard of buying him milk tea was when he bought a house in his hometown.
Wang Yuan turned his head away shyly, "It's not exactly a good thing, Brother Yan. Um, what do you think of me?"
He Yan glanced at him and said, "Just say what you need to say."
"Then I'll just say it directly?" Wang Yuan solicitously helped him open the milk tea cup. "Wen Xue... does she have a boyfriend?"
He Yan: "..."
He raised his hand, calmly pushing away the milk tea that Wang Yuan was practically offering to his lips, and held up one finger, asking, "How many is this?"
Wang Yuan didn't understand his meaning, but still honestly replied, "One."
"You didn't drink too much?"
Wang Yuan: "?"
He said unhappily, "Brother Yan, what do you mean? I know I'm not good enough for her, but I'm a good person."
Being a good person is useless.
He Yan was telling the truth. He knew that Wen Xue was still so young and would definitely fall in love in the future. He even secretly hoped that a decent man would take her out of her life and build a peaceful and happy life with her. But this person would not be Wang Yuan. It wasn't a matter of whether they were a good match or not. Rather, it was because if Wen Xue's boyfriend didn't have strong abilities or a resilient mind, he would be powerless to resist if that man reappeared in her life in the future.
Wang Yuan was so angry that his hair almost stood on end. He snatched the milk tea back and took a big gulp for himself.
He Yan: "Don't be angry, it's for your own good. Let's get down to business. Go to the building materials store later and buy a few more high-wattage light bulbs to replace all the lights in the hallway."
Wang Yuan said, unwilling to give up, "Brother, I'm not only a good person, I'm also honest."
He Yan lowered his head and spread out the documents. "Go out."
…
Six o'clock sharp.
Wen Xue felt that the day was very long because she needed to be alert at all times to adapt to the work. In just one day, she and Li Jingru actually developed a tacit understanding. Whenever she was distracted, Li Jingru would whistle to wake her up.
Nana commented: "He looks like a street urchin."
Wen Xue couldn't help but chuckle, but still said softly, "Thank you, Sister Jing."
Li Jingru waved her hand dismissively and said, "No need to thank me, it's normal. When I first came to learn from Sister Cai, I fell asleep listening to her chatter on and on. Take it slow, it will get better and better."
Will things get better?
Wen Xue thought uncertainly.
"Wenxue, want to go shopping together?" Nana asked excitedly after swiping her card.
"She's not going."
The person who answered wasn't Wen Xue. Everyone else in the office turned to look at the source of the voice. He Yan, dressed in a black overcoat, stood tall outside the door, holding his car keys. He looked around and finally looked at Wen Xue, who was drinking water. "All ready?"
"Um."
Wen Xue hurriedly tightened the cup lid, picked up her bag, smiled at them as a farewell, and then followed He Yan. The two walked out of the company together. When they passed the huge potted plant at the entrance, she was completely unaware of it. Instead, He Yan raised his arm to shield her from the drooping leaves that would ruffle her hair.
Li Jingru and Nana had witnessed He Yan's special treatment of Wen Xue yesterday.
Sister Zhou was taken aback when she saw it, clicking her tongue in amazement. If President He hadn't said that Wen Xue was his sister, she would have thought...
The jeep drove along the wide road. Wen Xue hadn't ridden in his car often, so she didn't know that He Yan actually drove fast, but when he caught a glimpse of her quietly nestled in the passenger seat, he slowed down. "Are you hungry?"
"fine."
Wen Xue wasn't ungrateful. She knew and remembered everyone who treated her well in life. Today, she was familiarizing herself with the work process with Li Jingru. She guessed that he was short-staffed, but that might just be his excuse. He still wanted to help her and take care of her.
She was grateful whether she needed it or not.
Thinking of this, she reached into her bag, found the remaining chocolate, wrapped it in her palm, hesitated for a moment, and then placed it on the armrest box.
Hearing the rustling noise, while waiting for the green light, He Yan glanced down casually. The carriage was dimly lit. He stared at the two chocolates, then his gaze shifted to Wen Xue's profile. He picked one up, unwrapped it, and popped the chocolate, which he didn't like, into his mouth.
The taste was too sweet for him; one was his limit, and he didn't touch another.
He glanced at the shops on both sides of the street and asked, "What would you like to eat for dinner?"
If it weren't for the fact that they were going to shop at a home furnishing store later, Wen Xue's answer would most likely have been "anything is fine." It was already past six o'clock, and going to a restaurant would take about one to two hours. She didn't answer immediately. Her eyes peered through the windshield, and she caught sight of a familiar sign in the night. She whispered, "Can I get out of the car to buy it?"
He Yan paused for a moment, then said, "Okay."
He then pulled over and parked the car.
But as she unbuckled her seatbelt to get out of the car, he became worried and said, "I'll go buy it myself."
Wen Xue had never genuinely heard what others were saying in the past, but this time she was deliberately pretending not to hear.
She got out of the car, closed the door, and turned around. The wind blew her hair. She only glanced at it briefly, as if trying to remember where she had parked, before walking towards the shop in the cold night wind. Her figure went from clear to blurry, and then disappeared from He Yan's sight.
He Yan chuckled.
Wen Xue honed her speed in buying food over three years of high school and a year and a half of college. Before long, she returned with a paper bag, jogging back. In that short time, the tip of her nose turned red from the cold, and after getting into the car, she was breathing rapidly, her chest heaving.
"The hamburger you bought?" he asked.
Wen Xue gasped for breath, “...Yes.”
She tried to calm herself down, carefully opened the paper bag, took out a hamburger, and handed the whole bag to him. "I didn't know what flavor you liked. There were a lot of people in line, so I didn't call and just bought some random ones."
"It's okay, I'm not picky."
When He Yan took it, he paused for a few seconds, clearly feeling the weight of the paper bag.
Sure enough, as I reached in, one, two, three...
Three hamburgers, two of which are Big Macs.
Besides that, she also bought three drinks, but obviously she only drank one.
He Yan: "..."
He couldn't help but look at her. She lowered her head, unwrapping the packaging. Noticing his gaze, she turned her head to meet his eyes. Their eyes met, and she asked hesitantly and cautiously, "Did I buy too little? Should I go down and buy something else?"
She noticed that there were many shops on this street.
There are hamburger shops, bakeries, and 24-hour convenience stores.
He Yan shook his head. "That's enough."
If he eats anything else, he'll really become a glutton.
…
Even on weekday evenings, the home furnishing mall is bustling with activity.
As they walked along, even He Yan, who often dealt with all sorts of strange and unsavory characters, almost lost his composure when he saw a group of people lying casually sleeping on the display bed.
Isn't this a shopping mall?
Why did he have the feeling that he had accidentally wandered into someone else's bedroom?
Wen Xue noticed the expression on his face, and the corners of her lips slightly lifted. Although He Heng and he had completely different temperaments—one was refreshing and scholarly, the other was rugged and composed—their facial features were similar. Suddenly, under the soft light pouring down from above, she saw He Heng, who was still alive a year ago, through He Yan.
He Heng was just as dumbfounded at that time.
He Yan's furrowed brows relaxed unconsciously when he met Wen Xue's smiling eyes. "There are too many people, let's finish shopping as soon as possible."
Wu Yuejiang was just lucky.
He Yan could tell that Wen Xue really enjoyed browsing home furnishing stores. She rarely showed curiosity about anything, but now she was looking around at the piles of plush toys and couldn't help but reach out to pinch and grab them.
She didn't even notice that He Yan, who was following behind her, reached out and pulled out an identical plush toy from the cart after she squeezed it, and threw it into the shopping cart.
From then on, he took anything she stared at for more than ten seconds.
When Wenxue finally remembered that there was someone else there, she turned around and saw that the shopping cart was almost full. She looked at him in surprise, and after understanding what was going on, she walked over helplessly and put all the little trinkets he had put in back in their original places.
She showed no impatience; as she bent over, her dark hair fell down, obscuring her profile.
He Yan placed one hand on the shopping cart handle and rubbed his temples with the other. He was starting to feel that his younger brother was more comfortable than his younger sister.
At least He Heng wouldn't dare to do that.
When only the plush toy remained in her shopping cart, Wenxue stopped buying.
She kept it.
