Chapter 17 Who Blackmails Who

Shen Xu stood up slowly, walked in front of Song Lin, raised his bound hands, wiped the rain off his face with his tattered sleeves, and smiled cunningly.

"Constable Song, I knew you were a good person. If you had held on a little longer and acted a little more disgusted, they would have sold you for three or two taels."

Song Lin originally wanted to give her some more money, return the indenture contract to her and leave, but when he saw her smiling cunningly at this moment, he suddenly realized.

Although the girl forgot her name, she also didn't know where she lived.

But she was very smart. She used her superb acting skills to fool the couple, forcing them to willingly take the five taels of silver and run away without looking back.

What a cunning little kitty.

But she was a weak woman who couldn't even tie a chicken and didn't know the way home. If she really met human traffickers again, she would not be so lucky.

Looking at her cheeks that were slightly flushed from being drenched by the rain, Song Lin suddenly had a scene in his mind of her grabbing his arm and gently blowing on the wound at the charity cemetery.

Those innocent and clean eyes and pink and soft lips are so heart-warming.

"What are you standing there for? Help me untie the rope." Shen Xu raised her tied hands and motioned Song Lin to untie her.

The corners of his mouth curled up, and he folded the indenture in his hand and put it in his pocket. His low voice was a little lazy: "Don't make a decision so soon. I want to buy you home as my wife."

Chen Xu uttered an "ah" and quickly declined, "Please don't marry me. They all say I'm a jinx. I think anyone who's with me will be unlucky."

"How unlucky is that?" Song Lin took small steps forward and shielded her head from the rain with an umbrella.

She lowered her head and explained in a low voice, "Those people who were abducted with me wouldn't have fallen off the cliff and died if they hadn't been in the same car as me. And you, you had a high fever right after you met me and you almost died too."

She raised her eyes and added, "And, that couple just now only took me in for one night, and they've already lost their house. They've already cheated you by asking you to buy me, and I can't bring bad luck to you anymore."

Seeing her hurriedly explaining, Song Lin chuckled and decided to tease her, "I'm not afraid. I've already killed two wives. I'm very lucky. I just need a replacement wife."

"Then I can't be your wife even more." Shen Xu raised his wet hand, stretched out his hand to grab the rope in his hand, and said bluntly: "I'm afraid that you will kill me too."

Song Lin quickly grabbed the rope, and she lost her balance and fell forward with a cry of "Ah", like a wet cat, falling softly into his arms, causing his heart to beat wildly.

He took her waist and said domineeringly: "I don't care, you are mine now. If I want you to be my wife, you have to be my wife."

"I, I want twenty taels. You can't be considered to have bought me like this." Shen Xu grabbed his collar and argued.

"The indentures are in my hands. Do you still want to cheat?" Song Lin held the rope in her hand, put his face close to hers, and said in a low and evil voice: "Otherwise, let's settle the account with the charity cemetery."

Hearing about the charity cemetery, Shen Xu became even more confident. She hastily argued, "I saved you at the charity cemetery. You're ungrateful, that's all, but why did you take advantage of someone in need?"

"Speaking of taking advantage of someone's misfortune...someone at the charity cemetery, under the guise of healing, seems to have taken advantage of Song as well. Same here."

Shen Xu met his beautiful amber eyes and suddenly became nervous. She stammered and explained, "What? I didn't do anything. Even if I burned paper money to heal your wounds, it was to save you. How can it be considered taking advantage of someone in distress?"

"Besides, even if I touched and looked at it, that would be the interest for saving you. How can a grown man like you be so stingy?"

"Well, now that I've saved you, shouldn't you also pay some interest?" Song Lin's mouth curled up proudly, and he said in a gentle tone, "Besides, I've really lost a piece of my beloved flesh and blood now, so you have to compensate me."

"Then how can I compensate you? I don't have any money." Shen Xu looked like he was caught, his fair face turned even redder, and she struggled slightly, trying to break free from his restraints.

"Come home with me." Song Lin held the umbrella in one hand and put his arm around her waist with the other. He lowered his body slightly, easily carried her on his shoulders, turned around and strode towards home.

"Hey, aren't you a constable? Why are you being unreasonable?"

"You begged me to buy it for you. Now you want to deny it? It's too late."

Song Lin carried her for two streets in one breath, and then strode to a small courtyard in the town where she lived alone.

The old woman in the yard was frying melon seeds in the kitchen. When she saw Song Lin coming back carrying a woman, she quickly put down the spatula in her hand and went out to greet him.

"Master Song, didn't you go to get some medicine? Why did you bring back a dirty beggar?"

"Auntie Zhang, please boil a bucket of hot water and take her to wash thoroughly." Song Lin carried the person directly into the room. He put Shen Xu on the chair, untied the rope on her hand, and buried his head in the closet to search.

Finally, he found a quilt to wrap her up and poured her a cup of hot water.

Shen Xu wrapped himself in a quilt and looked around. The house was not big, with two rooms inside, one main room and one side room, and a kitchen outside.

There was only a bed, a simple carved wooden cabinet and a set of very new tables and chairs in the room. There were potted plants and small ornaments on the shelves, which were wiped very clean.

There was a desk next to the paper-pasted window, on which were neatly arranged several volumes of books and the four treasures of the study.

There was also a small incense burner, the smoke curling up in the bright room, and the fragrance of sandalwood faintly penetrated the nostrils.
