Xue Yan's negotiation team walked and stopped in the Gobi Desert for three days before they arrived at the desert town where they had agreed to negotiate.
Standing on a high sand dune, several people could already see the town in the distance.
That was an oasis at the intersection of the Cliff Corridor. Residents from the three countries on the edge of the oasis built a small town for caravan camels to rest and recuperate.
The town is under the jurisdiction of Jiangling Prefecture of Haoyue State. The townspeople use water and camels to exchange goods and commodities with traveling merchants.
"Brother, it looks like we are almost at our destination. I wonder if the envoys from the other two countries have arrived." Xue Yu was riding on a camel, his whole body wrapped tightly in a blanket.
"Miss, please drink some water. The environment here is too bad. It is really not suitable for you to come out as a guard." Guard Li Guan handed over half a pot of water. In order to protect themselves from the scorching sun and wind and sand, they all covered their faces with black gauze, covered tightly.
Even so, the scarf, veil, folds of clothes, and crevices of shoes were filled with sand, making it extremely uncomfortable.
Song Lin was somewhat glad that his little wife didn't come with him. He couldn't bear to let Shen Xu do such a hard job.
Although he didn't encounter any other dangers along the way except for a few sandstorms, he vaguely felt that something big was going to happen.
"Looking at the itinerary, we can reach the town in less than half a day."
"Then we won't stop for the rest of the journey. Let's rest when we get to the town." Xue Yan sat on the horse. Although his body was wrapped tightly, it could still be seen that he sat upright with a very dignified demeanor.
The wind blew the yellow sand, making a whistling sound. The ground under my feet suddenly began to tremble, and fine particles of yellow sand slowly flowed with the vibration.
Captain Song pulled the reins, causing the horse to back off a bit, and said warily, "Be careful, someone's coming!"
All that was heard was the neighing of horses from behind the towering sand dunes on the side, and then a man and a horse suddenly rolled down from the top of the pointed sand pile, passed in front of the guards, and rolled all the way down the slope, raising a cloud of dust.
Then came the sound of boiling voices, the collision of weapons, and the sound of arrows breaking through the wind.
It sounds like quite a few people are fighting.
Xue Yan quickly commanded: "Is it possible that the envoy from Yanyang Country was attacked? Go and check it out!"
Everyone hurriedly rode their horses towards the place where the noise came from. They saw about twenty people wearing North Sea costumes, holding North Sea's unique recurve bows, and riding horses to chase the four cavalrymen in front.
From time to time, someone would draw his bow and shoot arrows at the four people.
The four men were all holding scimitars, wearing navy blue leather armor and windproof masks, and they rode their horses quickly towards the town.
They were good riders and dodged the arrows shot by the North Sea people very skillfully. From time to time, they turned back to attack the North Sea cavalry who were ahead.
Xue Yan looked at the four men's attire and weapons and said, "Those guys might be from the Xiling City Guard. Go and ask them what happened."
Song Lin, Li Guan and a guard sent by Yang Yihu rode up on horseback, but before he had time to ask.
But then a tall man among the four men pulled the reins and rushed towards Song Lin's horse with great momentum.
Seeing that the newcomer had ill intentions, Song Lin and Li Guan quickly dodged, but the guard arranged by Yang Yihu was unable to dodge and was hit on the horse's leg by the strong man.
The frightened horse, carrying its rider, rolled down the sand dune.
Song Lin didn't bother to rescue the guard who was being dragged down the hillside, and spoke to him, "Wait a minute, you are from the Yanyang Kingdom Guard..."
The man didn't seem to hear what he said clearly, and turned back to attack Song Lin without saying a word.
Song Lin quickly drew out his Embroidered Spring Sword and skillfully blocked his attack.
The man pushed hard with his hand to block Song Lin's chopping knife, lowered his waist, and dodged Li Guan's attack sideways.
"Humph, this killer is pretty good at fighting."
Song Lin and Li Guan looked at each other. This man was indeed from the Yanyang Kingdom's envoy guard team.
The two dodged the man's attacks while trying to subdue him.
The man waved away Song Lin's knife, took a few steps back, and distanced himself from the two men.
Song Lin steadied his horse and said quickly, "We are not assassins. We are from the Haoyue Kingdom's envoy guards. We are here to negotiate. Are you from the Yanyang Kingdom's guards for the Lin family army?"
"Hmph, another one claiming to be here for negotiation. How can we be fooled by you again! If you are not of our race, your heart must be different. Let's just fight you, there is no point in talking!" The man raised his scimitar, grabbed the reins tightly and rushed towards Song Lin again, his attack as fierce as a tiger.
The other three also caught up and after several rounds of siege, Li Guan was knocked off his horse.
"Xiao Liu, the people from Beihai are catching up, let's retreat first." One of them raised his knife to kill Li Guan who fell to the ground. Song Lin quickly jumped off his horse and waved his knife to block him.
The man quickly climbed onto Li Guan's horse. They didn't want to fight any longer. The other man also abandoned his injured horse, grabbed Song Lin's horse, and headed straight towards the town.
Seeing this, Xue Yan and others who were not far away hurriedly rushed forward on horseback to provide support.
"How dare you steal our horses!" Xue Yu jumped up and kicked one of the oncoming men off his horse with a flying kick in the air.
The man reacted very quickly. He jumped up and drew his sword, swinging it at the horse under Xue Yu, but she quickly stepped on the scimitar.
Xue Yu didn't give him any chance to resist, and immediately kicked him on the arm, causing the scimitar to fall to the ground.
"Yu'er, don't hurt anyone." Xue Yan hurriedly called out, leaning back and dodging a scimitar swung by someone.
"General Xue." Constable Song quickly drew his sword to block the other man who was about to attack Xue Yan.
"Stop, we are here to negotiate. Are you the Five Tigers of the Lin Family from Xiling City?" Xue Yan took advantage of the moment when the three men were fighting with Captain Song and quickly took out the diplomatic documents to prove his identity.
