"Can it fit?"
Ning Jinyu asked the question behind her, and Chu Chu, whose head was tucked into her raincoat, replied:
"It's barely passable."
It had rained before, but when Chu Chu asked Ning Jinyu to take her home, she would at least slip one of her own raincoats into his car.
This made the two people on the donkey feel less cramped.
But Ning Jinyu didn't bring anything. Luckily, Chu Chu's raincoat was a large size, big enough to cover two people.
But after Chu Chu, sitting in the back seat, stuffed her head into the raincoat, she was immediately plunged into complete darkness, only able to see a sliver of light coming through at her ankles.
It appears to be a reflection from a streetlight onto a puddle on the ground.
There was still a strong, unpleasant smell of plastic from the raincoat lingering in my nostrils.
“Well then, I’m leaving,” Ning Jinyu said.
"…become."
As Ning Jinyu turned on the ignition, the car sped off toward the school gate.
Because of the raincoat, Chu Chu was very close to Ning Jinyu's back.
Both of their electric bikes were small enough to carry passengers, but if the driver carried a backpack, the back seat would become extremely cramped.
Therefore, Ning Jinyu would usually put his schoolbag in the basket in front of the car.
But Chu Chu's bike didn't have a basket installed—she felt that was too much like grocery shopping and not cool enough.
So, Ning Jinyu slung her backpack over her shoulder...
This is Chu Chu's car; logically, Chu Chu should be the one taking him home.
But it was raining, and it was already close to 10 p.m.
Ning Jinyu then said, "I'll take you home first, then drive you home, and I'll drive you back tomorrow."
Chu Chu first responded with an "Oh," and then said:
"You knew it was too late, so why didn't you get an IV drip?"
Ning Jinyu's answer was brief but effective: "I have no money."
Chu Chu:......
“Give me thirty yuan, and I’ll take it back,” Ning Jinyu said again.
"Climb? Dream on," Chu Chu said.
Chu Chu lowered her head, but could see the asphalt road outside her raincoat.
Raindrops fell on the road, forming small puddles and ripples.
The neon lights from the streets on both sides shone into the puddles and reflected into Chu Chu's eyes.
In the small space, her head was almost pressed against Ning Jinyu's spine, the unpleasant plastic smell of the raincoat mixed with the boy's scent.
The sound of light rain pattering on my plastic raincoat reached my ears.
Ning Jinyu drove in silence.
Chu Chu remained silent.
After a long while, she finally couldn't bear it any longer and spoke up:
“…Hey, I’m talking.”
"Um?"
"You're driving so slowly... My car is unlocked."
"Nonsense, it was obviously very fast."
“I saw that other cars’ wheels were ahead of mine…and it wasn’t just one.”
"...It's safer to drive slower on rainy days."
"Twist the accelerator!"
"oh."
Ning Jinyu suddenly twisted the accelerator and then quickly braked.
Chu Chu was jolted forward by inertia, and with a cry of "Ah!", her chest collided with Ning Jinyu's back.
Before Chu Chu could even speak, Ning Jinyu seemed to sense something:
"...It hurts so much."
Chu Chu:…
"You bumped your head into my back."
Chu Chu:......
It's a chest! You bastard, get off the bus!
But she didn't say anything; she just grinned and grimaced in the back seat, wishing she could kick that bastard off the bus.
Ning Jinyu seemed to be driving a little fast, but not by much.
It went over the speed bump twice.
The slight feeling of weightlessness when turning.
And when the car next to me passed by, some of the water it kicked up splashed up to my ankles.
Chu Chu felt it all very clearly.
She actually wanted to tell Ning Jinyu that if they continued like this, their classmates would start spreading rumors about them.
But Ning Jinyu wasn't stupid; he had heard a lot of teasing from boys and girls about him these past few days.
This shows he doesn't care.
Chu Chu didn't really care much.
Chu Chu suddenly smiled and said, "It's a pity it's raining."
"Um?"
"I can't eat rice noodle rolls anymore."
"Um."
"Let's eat it next time."
"You're treating me."
"If you'd like to take me home."
"…Um."
The electric scooter drove on and on.
Chu Chu thought, "They're driving so slowly, how come we're not home yet?"
Then I thought, well, it's alright, if I'm not home yet, I'm not home yet.
"By the way, which university are you applying to for college? Have you thought about it?" Chu Chu asked.
“Zhengsen Medical School,” Ning Jinyu said.
Chu Chu was taken aback.
The two were only in their second year of high school. Many people might have already thought about what schools they could get into based on their own abilities, but they hadn't really thought about their majors—including Chu Chu.
"You're so clear-headed, so eager to become a doctor?" Chu Chu said.
"It's stable and profitable," Ning Jinyu said.
"It took the doctor a long time to read it out," Chu Chu said.
"Seven years." Ning Jinyu hummed in agreement. "But it was Zheng Sen after all, so it was worth it."
For people from Guangdong Province, Cheng Sen University is a prestigious university with a very orthodox lineage.
Many people from Guangdong Province have grown up under the radiance of this university.
When children first start school, many parents pray, "If you can get into Zhengsheng University, then you'll be successful."
“My ambition is also to study Zhengsen,” Chu Chu said.
Ning Jinyu hesitated for a moment: "...You?"
"What kind of tone is that?! My grades are at least first in the class!"
"second."
"You've only won first place once, don't be arrogant."
