Ji Qingqian continued:
"At first, the boy disliked the girl. Her marksmanship was terrible, her footwork was even worse, she had no awareness, and she couldn't even listen to footsteps. Her only role was to hold him back, and she was always chattering."
"She talked about things that had nothing to do with games, such as how things were at school, what happened with her classmates, and who she met. She even asked the boys if they had encountered anything fun."
“But boys rarely go out, have no friends, and their attendance at school is only half... How can they understand what she's saying? They even dislike her more.”
Chu Chu timidly raised her hand: "A question."
Ma Jiaojiao glanced at Chu Chu, "And you're talking about me? You're the one who interrupted me..."
Ji Qingqian: "Hmm?"
Chu Chu: "If boys dislike girls so much, why do they still play with them?"
Ji Qing pondered:
"...Hmm, she has a nice voice, and...she rarely swears or uses foul language."
Ma Jiaojiao and Chu Chu both realized at the same time that not swearing while playing games was incredibly high-class.
Wang Jue, however, had a different perspective:
"I think... um, could it be because that guy actually longs for the kind of life that girl was talking about..."
She noticed Ji Qingqian staring at her, and quickly lowered her head.
"I just said it offhand."
Ji Qingqian's eyes brightened slightly. She pursed her lips, not denying Wang Jue's statement:
"Perhaps you're right, because something else happened next."
The group listened as Ji Qingqian continued:
"After the boy and girl had known each other for three months, the boy still disliked the girl quite a bit. He would never take her out unless she took the initiative to freeload. Then in April of that year, the boy got sick. It was a minor illness. He had a minor surgery and stayed in the hospital for fifteen days."
"During those two weeks, the boy was forbidden by his parents from going online or using a mobile phone. The boy didn't have much trouble adjusting, but it worried the girl a lot."
"The girl couldn't wait for the boy to come online, so she would send him messages every day."
"The tulips at Prince Bay are in bloom! They're so beautiful, I hope you can come and see them..."
"The willow leaves by West Lake are sprouting; it's really late this year, but a good spring is never too late..."
"The wind is gentle, the clouds are light, the world is beautiful, can you see it...?"
"The squirrels by West Lake are so cute..."
"Look, the white doves are very friendly; they'll come and peck at the bread in your hand..."
"I had so much homework today, and I fell asleep in class and got scolded by the teacher..."
"I got soaked while cleaning, so annoying..."
"They're all just boring little stories."
At this point, Ji Qingqian's voice became even softer: "But she says it every day... she says it every day, trying very hard to show the good side of her life to the boys."
"Later, the two got in touch again. The girl said she didn't know if the boy had something wrong or was just unhappy. If he was just unhappy, she hoped that the story she shared could cheer him up."
"If something happens, these words will let him know that someone misses him... and I hope he can be happier in heaven."
"The guy had never thought anyone could be so funny. He was only missing for half a month, and people actually thought he was dead... He laughed for a long, long time."
"And it's strange, that someone he's never met is so worried about him, even though they're thousands of miles away."
"That's really strange."
"A wonderful seed sprouted in the boy's heart. From that day on, he suddenly felt that girls were not so annoying anymore, and even a little cute. The things they said every day also became interesting."
“When the boy starts going out, he can see the little flowers blooming by the roadside, the old lady selling food smiling, and the smoke from the old man's pancake stall always drifting up and over the old man's head before gradually swaying from side to side... He can see these things that he never noticed before.”
"Boys want to share things properly with girls."
"Boys want to be friends with girls."
"It's not just in the game; he wants to meet girls in person and have real conversations with them..."
"Boys don't understand why they care so much about girls."
Then, one day, the girl told the boy that she had a crush on someone and was going to pursue him wholeheartedly.
Ji Qingqian's unchanging indifferent expression darkened slightly, and she paused before speaking again: "Back then, I never knew what it meant to like a boy, until I finally understood... oh, so he liked a girl. But it was too late..."
"It's not too late."
Chu Chu said, "The girl just has a boy she likes... It's not like you can be together just because you like someone. She hasn't started dating the boy she likes yet, so the boy has plenty of opportunities."
Ji Qingqian said calmly, "The boy understands too, but he doesn't dare to."
"You dare not?"
"He doesn't know what kind of boys girls like, nor does he know his place in a girl's heart. To put it bluntly, the two of them are just online friends. They've never met or spoken to each other... He doesn't know if they can still be friends after he confesses his feelings."
Chu Chu remained silent. Indeed, what Ji Qingqian said was the thought of an ordinary person.
"The boy was very upset, but he didn't want to give up completely. He kept telling himself that as long as the girl started dating the boy she admired, he would completely withdraw."
"But strangely, six months, then a year passed. The girl and the boy she liked were very close. She would bring him breakfast every day, plan where they would go out, and do things to please him, but they still didn't date. The girl told the boy that it was because the boy she liked didn't want to date while they were still in school..."
