I didn't nap for very long.
I don't know if it was because I woke up too late in the morning, or because the sofa was a bit cramped for two people.
Lu Yibei was the first to regain consciousness.
He glanced at the time.
I had only been asleep for a little over half an hour.
Lu Yibei looked up at the window of the balcony; the sunlight wasn't too far west.
He glanced at his girlfriend, who was still daydreaming beside him, and smiled for no apparent reason.
This afternoon was too leisurely.
It seemed to have no meaning whatsoever.
But it's very comfortable.
Sleeping even when the sun is high in the sky, not a god, but better than a god.
Ji Qingqian's eyelashes fluttered, as if she sensed her boyfriend's gaze, and she opened her eyes somewhat blankly.
"We should go buy groceries," Lu Yibei said softly.
Ji Qingqian stared blankly into her little boy's eyes for a couple of seconds before smiling faintly and answering softly:
"good."
The two stood up.
Then I heard two electronic beeps coming from downstairs through the open window.
Lu Yibei knew all too well that it was the sound of the electric scooter being locked after it stopped.
He was helpless:
"Troublemaker is here."
Ji Qingqian blinked.
The girl, who had just regained consciousness, seemed particularly dazed, and every movement seemed to be half a beat behind.
Only after the two of them went downstairs together did Ji Qingqian understand the meaning behind Lu Yibei's words.
Fang Lanyun called out to the two people coming downstairs:
"Jingyi is here."
Subsequently, Ji Qingqian naturally met this younger sister, Jingyi.
"Sister Qingqian~"
Shen Jingyi greeted him with a smile.
When she smiled, a shallow dimple appeared on her round profile.
"You're here," Ji Qingqian said.
From the moment he opened his mouth, his tone was like that of a host welcoming guests.
Grandma and Lu Yibei didn't mind.
Having experienced the National Day holiday before, Shen Jingyi calmly accepted the young female head of her brother's family.
Chen Jingyi was about to speak.
Her brother then reached out and touched her neck, which was a little sore from sleeping:
"You truly have the composure to calm down."
"…ah?"
"We were just about to go to the market when you showed up. You're such a pro at getting free meals."
"incredible!"
Chen Jingyi's small eyes widened: "I came here to deliver food!"
As she spoke, she pointed to the classic red plastic bag on the table:
"My mom's colleague went to Dengzhou, Shandong Province for a trip a while ago, and asked her to bring back these local apples!"
"...Wow."
Lu Yibei used his finger to open the plastic bag.
The apples inside were all large and red, with smooth skin, making them look particularly exquisite.
"She asked Sister Qingqian to take some back to school to eat."
Chen Jingyi said, "I forgot to give it to you yesterday."
Last night, after having barbecue, Lu Yibei took Shen Jingyi home, and it wasn't too late.
Lu Yibei's aunt did not fall asleep.
He then came down to greet the guests.
Although we only chatted briefly, he was, after all, an elder.
Ji Qingqian couldn't be so rude as to sit alone in the car, so she got out and greeted the woman.
The aunt had already heard her daughter mention that her nephew had a girlfriend.
But her daughter had never spoken much to her, so she simply described her as "very beautiful".
Only after seeing it with her own eyes did she understand what the concept of "beautiful" truly meant.
When she learned that her nephew's girlfriend was a top student at Jiangnan University, she was even more astonished.
After the two left, she immediately told her daughter to learn more from her older siblings—a practice commonly known as "putting pressure on her."
In the past, Chen Jingyi would have been annoyed and might have even argued with her mother.
But ever since her brother helped her through her emotional ordeal, she hasn't felt it was a big deal.
I gave her a few perfunctory replies and went back to reading her book.
But her mother still missed her nephew's girlfriend, who was a high-achieving student, so she asked her daughter to come over... well, should I say to get closer to her?
Or should we cling to a powerful figure?
Chen Jingyi pouted, somewhat bored.
"In short, my mom wants me to absorb my brother's spiritual energy and my sister's essence. Ideally, she'd like to go all the way and get me into Jiang University too."
Lu Yibei picked up an apple and spun it around.
Then Chen Jingyi said:
“If you don’t like it, give it to your grandparents or sister-in-law… I’ve already told my mom that you don’t like apples, but she doesn’t believe me.”
Lu Yibei said calmly:
"If I were you, knowing I don't like apples, I would at least go to the fruit shop and buy a bag of pears instead. Don't you understand basic social etiquette?"
Chen Jingyi nodded seriously: "I understand."
Then, she looked at her brother even more intently:
"But you don't deserve it."
"...With your skills, you'll never get into Jiangda University in this lifetime."
"Oh--"
Lu Yibei glanced at the backpack Chen Jingyi was carrying:
"Your sister and I are going to buy groceries. If you want to study, go to the study on the third floor. Don't touch anything, or you'll be in trouble."
Shen Jingyi said "Oh," and was about to go upstairs when she heard her brother ask from behind:
"Is there anything you'd like to eat?"
"Just buy whatever you want, I'm not here to freeload."
"Fine, but if you dare say it's not good, I'll kick you to death—"
Then, there was no further discussion.
Shen Jingyi went upstairs, while Lu Yibei and Ji Qingqian went to get their car and headed to the market.
I just fastened my seatbelt.
Ji Qing's eyebrows showed a hint of joy:
"Jingyi, do you still remember that you don't like apples?"
"She just thinks I'm hard to please... She always finds fault with me, no wonder she loves crucian carp."
…
This time we went to the West City Farmers Market.
