Ji Qingqian walked to the bottom of the building.
The boy who messaged her was chatting with a beautiful girl.
"Come on, Auntie, have some melon. The melon stall at the North Gate is selling them cheaply today, so I bought a lot."
"Beautiful lady" refers to the dormitory supervisor.
The aunt always had a kind and gentle look on her face, so Ji Qingqian thought she was very beautiful.
The aunt took the slice of watermelon that Lu Yibei handed her and said jokingly:
"Hey young man, even if you bribe me, I can't let you in."
"I'm not going in," Lu Yibei laughed. "I'm waiting for someone to come down."
"Bringing watermelon to your girlfriend?"
The dormitory supervisor had vivid memories of Lu Yibei and Ji Qingqian. Good-looking people are always more easily remembered. She laughed and said, "Giving watermelons is an old trick I used when I was young to woo people. It's so outdated. Young people like you should be giving milk tea or something."
"That's because I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep if I drink it at night."
Lu Yibei replied fluently: "Besides, how can it be called old-fashioned? It should be called 'classic'. This is the wisdom passed down from your older generation."
The dormitory supervisor was overjoyed.
Ji Qingqian thought Lu Yibei was amazing.
She could never have chatted so happily with her aunt.
She casually tucked her stray hairs behind her ears and stepped forward:
"What's wrong? Why are you here so late?"
It's already past 9:30... At this time, students who were strolling around campus would all be heading back to their dormitories.
Fortunately, there weren't many people coming and going at the dormitory entrance.
The dormitory supervisor, having accepted a favor, immediately spoke well of Lu Yibei:
"Young lady, look how good your boyfriend is to you. He even brought you a watermelon... This watermelon is so sweet."
There was a hint of helplessness in Lu Yibei's eyes.
Ji Qingqian understood what he meant—I've explained it, but my aunt is convinced I'm her boyfriend.
She pursed her lips, not minding at all, but with a hint of a smile in her eyes.
Lu Yibei shook the paper bag in his other hand:
"Here, try them on and see if they fit."
Ji Qingqian: ?
Lu Yibei took the shoebox out of the paper bag.
The aunt then realized, "Oh, it wasn't a melon they were sending, but shoes!"
Lu Yibei hummed in agreement and smiled, "She said the shoes didn't fit properly and were rubbing her sorely, so I went and bought a pair that I wore during my military training... Luckily, they're unisex and still in production, so why not give them a try?"
He looked at Ji Qingqian.
The aunt quickly brought over her "dragon throne"—the small chair she used in class:
"Come on, sit here and try it out. Young lady, look how thoughtful your boyfriend is. He's much better than those boys who only brought melons when I was young."
She was very perceptive. After saying all that, she returned to the hallway and went into the first dormitory room. That was the room reserved for the dormitory manager.
She complained that "it's so hot today" while giving the young couple some private space.
Ji Qingqian took the shoebox and then looked up at Lu Yibei:
"Did you go out of your way to buy this?"
Lu Yibei nodded: "If we go tomorrow, we'll only be free after school, and you'll have to endure a whole day of foot pain, which will be quite uncomfortable."
Ji Qingqian gazed at the shoebox, her usually calm expression softening unconsciously. She murmured to herself:
"It was already nine o'clock when I told you... and there are still shops open at this hour?"
Shoe stores in shopping malls usually close at 9:00 PM, or at most 9:30 PM.
But Lu Yibei is at school, so it will take time for him to get there.
"This maneuver was extremely precise."
Lu Yibei gave a thumbs up: "When I arrived, the staff were just about to lock up. I was forced to work overtime, so I wonder if they'll be cursing me behind my back."
"What if it's closed? You'll have made a wasted trip," Ji Qingqian said.
Lu Yibei shrugged: "We have to give it a try."
Ji Qingqian recalled what Wang Jue had said in the dormitory.
Even if the boy comes to the girl's city, he is very likely to achieve nothing.
But, just as the boy in front of her said at that moment.
We should at least give it a try.
Lu Yibei wasn't afraid of coming up empty-handed, so she wasn't afraid either.
"Try wearing them," Lu Yibei said.
"Um."
Ji Qingqian glanced at the tag printed on the shoebox: "How much is this?"
“It’s Anta, a domestic brand, not expensive, and comfortable,” Lu Yibei said.
How much advertising money did Anta pay you?
Ji Qingqian asked, sitting on the chair that her aunt had brought over.
Upon opening the shoebox, she saw the blue and white sneakers inside: "...So ugly..."
Lu Yibei quickly interrupted:
"No matter how much advertising fee they offer, I won't get it now!"
Ji Qingqian came down wearing sandals.
As soon as you kick off your slippers, you can slip your bare feet into your new sneakers.
She didn't tie her shoelaces and stood up to move around a bit.
"Hmm, it's quite comfortable, better than Converse."
"That's good."
Ji Qingqian sat down, took off her new shoes, and Lu Yibei put them back in the shoebox:
“I also bought you three pairs of stockings to better protect your most vulnerable Achilles heels, my heroine.”
"You've thought of everything so carefully," Ji Qingqian said softly.
“As a senior, of course I have more experience in military training.” Lu Yibei stuffed the shoebox back into the paper bag: “Junior, you’re lucky.”
"That opportunistic kid!"
Ji Qingqian chuckled softly, then asked curiously, "How did you know my shoe size?"
“It’s written on the insole of the shoe in the photo you sent me,” Lu Yibei said.
"Is there?"
"have."
Ji Qingqian didn't even notice as she took out her phone and checked her photo album. There really was one... but it was quite hidden and blurry.
