Chapter 399 Teacher

Knock knock.

Because of the air conditioning, the office doors are always closed in winter.

There was a knock on the door.

Mr. Zhang Qiwen, who happened to be free of class, looked up and said "Come in" with a slightly tired expression.

The door was then opened slightly.

First, a head peeked in.

Teacher Zhang was all too familiar with this posture; almost all students entered the office with this cautious demeanor.

But after getting to know them, I was stunned again.

Then, a nostalgic smile appeared on his face as he looked at the young man who had just entered.

"Hey, Brother Bei."

Lu Yibei: "...No, Teacher Zhang."

Teacher Zhang laughed heartily: "You're here! Come in, come in!"

Teacher Zhang was his and Xu Che's homeroom teacher when they were in their senior year of high school.

I'm over fifty this year.

However, judging from his appearance, he looks older than Mr. Qin, who is the same age, especially in terms of his hair color.

Grandpa Qin was black with snow in his eyes.

Teacher Zhang, on the other hand, was shrouded in darkness amidst the snow.

Because of his rich teaching experience and rigorous scholarship, he had been required by the school to teach graduating classes.

Lu Yibei did not mean to speak ill of the homeroom teachers of the first and second year of high school.

But it was a particularly special year, so the homeroom teacher who led their class that year was also a bit more special.

"Come in, come in."

Teacher Zhang beckoned, and he closed his handwritten notebook, then asked, "Would you like something to drink?"

Lu Yibei shook his head and smiled, "No need, teacher, don't you have classes these two periods?"

Teacher Zhang nodded:

"Yes, that's why I told Xu Che to have you come find me this afternoon."

As he spoke, he stood up and began pulling out chairs for Lu Yibei and the other two.

He's the only one in the office right now; there are plenty of empty chairs.

"We can do it ourselves."

Lu Yibei took over the work from Teacher Zhang, who then glanced at the young girl following closely behind the boy.

Teacher Zhang paused for a moment, then asked:

"Where's Xu Che? Didn't he say he was coming with you?"

Xu Che, walking side by side with Lu Yibei:

“…”

He looked at Lu Yibei with a complicated expression:

"I told you people get confused as they get older, right?"

Lu Yibei: ...

Teacher Zhang seemed to have a premonition of something.

He adjusted his glasses, carefully examined the features of the pink cauliflower, and then adjusted his glasses again:

“…A-Che?”

Xu Che sighed helplessly, "Old Zhang, you're really getting old. You've even forgotten what your most prized disciple looks like."

Only then did Teacher Zhang fully realize that this thing was indeed his student from back then.

He gasped, the superior quality of the senior teacher leaving him speechless.

"Stop inhaling."

Xu Che said, "Global warming is all because of people like you..."

Teacher Zhang held back.

Finally, I comforted myself with the thought that "I'm a college student now, so I should have my own aesthetic sense. Pink may not be a very down-to-earth color, but at least it's down-to-earth."

But after glancing at Xu Che's hairstyle, he still made a small comment:

"His hairstyle is quite cool, and rather rare."

"No, who are you calling rare?!" Xu Che blurted out.

Teacher Zhang was taken aback.

As a qualified retired teacher, he doesn't have much time to surf the internet, which is fundamentally different from the abstract old man like the security guard.

Teacher Zhang was puzzled and asked Lu Yibei:

Why is he in such a hurry?

Xu Che: "Where am I in a hurry!"

"Alright, alright, don't rush, don't rush," Lu Yibei comforted him.

Teacher Zhang also said:

"Then have some water first."

After saying that, he went to pour water.

Xu Che snatched the disposable cup and said, "I can do it myself. I'm not a guest, why are you being so fussy?"

Upon hearing this, Teacher Zhang smiled with relief.

"By the way, Lao Zhang."

As Xu Che slurped up some water, he asked, "Are you that busy?"

"It's alright. I'll be teaching first-year high school students soon, and I'll be relieved of my homeroom teacher duties. It's much easier than when you guys were teaching," Teacher Zhang said with a smile.

"Then why did you forget to mention to Lao Qin that we were coming to find you?"

After handing the disposable cup to Yi Bei and A Ji, that damned couple, Xu Che asked Teacher Zhang, "Do you want one?"

Teacher Zhang shook his thermos to indicate that he still had some.

"Do you two need to be notified beforehand?"

He said, "It would be strange if we couldn't get in—and sure enough, the old fox is shrewd, just as I predicted."

As he spoke, he looked at Lu Yibei and Xu Che, his face full of satisfaction.

Some students have excellent grades and bright futures, but they forget their former teachers.

Some students are enthusiastic, but their self-discipline is average. They didn't get into good schools, and when they came back to visit their teachers after graduation, Old Zhang was quite worried about their future.

Of course, teachers don't expect to get anything in return from their students.

There are valid reasons for both returning to one's alma mater to visit teachers and not returning to one's school.

However, the presence of promising individuals like Lu Yibei and Xu Che, who still care about him, would give Zhang Qiwen a sense of security.

—A sentiment that "I guess I'm a pretty good teacher."

Thinking this, Zhang Qiwen leaned back in his chair and asked with a smile:

"Tell me, what brings you back to me?"

Lu Yibei was taken aback and asked, "Teacher Zhang, have you been promoted? Why do you have such a bureaucratic style?"

Zhang Qiwen: ...

Xu Che also said, "What else can we ask you for? To help us get a job in the province? Even if we had that idea, you don't have the ability... Old Zhang, you're over fifty years old, it's time to settle down. You'll never become the president in your life."
