In Jiangnan, the lingering heat of late summer in September doesn't pass so easily.
However, it can still feel cool at night after the rain.
Ji Qingqian is tall, and Lu Yibei's plaid shirt is still two sizes too big for her.
Two long sleeves trailed down, revealing only a tiny bit of her slender, white fingertips.
Ji Qingqian glanced sideways at the boy holding an umbrella for her.
The first rain since arriving in Hangzhou.
It was also her first time eating at Haidilao.
It was also the first time she had shared an umbrella with a boy her own age.
Fortunately, all of these first experiences were shared with the boy beside me.
Although these first experiences were ordinary and mundane, Ji Qingqian felt that they would still have a special flavor when she looked back on them in the future.
The Didi taxi they hailed arrived quickly to pick them up.
After verifying the license plate, the two of them climbed into the back seat.
Lu Yibei confirmed the phone number with the driver, and the driver started the car.
Ji Qingqian does go out less often, but she is not isolated from the world; she still takes taxis occasionally.
However, in the past, she would put on her Bluetooth headset as soon as she got into the car.
This is an excellent way to avoid chatting with strangers.
Taxi drivers are mostly talkative, and Ji Qingqian is particularly bad at dealing with these kinds of people.
Today, however, she listened with great interest to the driver chatting and flirting with Lu Yibei.
The driver was a middle-aged man, around forty years old.
Presumably because their destination was the north gate of Jiangnan University, he asked:
"Young men, are you students from Jiangnan University?"
"Ah, yes," Lu Yibei replied with a smile.
The driver sounded envious:
"That's great! Jiangnan University is a prestigious university in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. I wish my son could get into it too."
"How old is your son?" Lu Yibei asked.
Ah Bei is different from her. Ji Qingqian thought, she could chat with anyone.
"He just started high school!"
Like most parents of high school students, the driver complained, "But all he does is play video games all day, and he doesn't even do his homework properly. Sigh, if only my son were as hardworking as you guys..."
Lu Yibei and Ji Qingqian exchanged a glance.
They were true video game gods in high school...
I really didn't live up to the driver's praise.
“He’s still young. Maybe he’ll be motivated to work hard in a couple of months,” Lu Yibei said.
He suddenly realized that the motivation that drove Qingqian to work hard must have been him…
Thinking of this, the hair tie on his right wrist, which he hadn't felt before, seemed to tighten a little.
At the same time, it made his heart contract slightly.
It wasn't easy for you, heroine...
The driver was also unwilling to complain too much in front of the two young people.
He smiled and said, "That's true."
Then he joked:
“I’ll tell him when I get back today that if he gets into Jiangnan University, he can find a beautiful girl like you to be his girlfriend. Maybe that will get him excited.”
"No."
Ji Qingqian, who had been silent all along, suddenly interrupted, "No."
Lu Yibei was somewhat stunned.
Although that's not true.
Even if the female knight didn't mention it, he should still explain.
But the fact that she spoke first still made him feel a little... well, worried.
And his tone was so confident.
Ji Qingqian continued:
"It's not very pretty."
After letting out a sigh of relief, Lu Yibei cursed himself inwardly.
For no reason at all, why are you so worried?
Ji Qingqian noticed that Lu Yibei was looking at her, so she turned her face away as well.
Her eyes were shining brightly.
"Hahaha, little girl, you're too modest."
The driver laughed: "Ask your boyfriend, I reckon you're probably the most beautiful girl he's ever seen in his life."
Ji Qingqian wouldn't ask.
Lu Yibei, however, agreed with the driver's words, and he smiled:
"Yes, she is the most beautiful."
Ji Qingqian gently clenched her fists into her palms, which were resting on her knees.
She muttered to herself:
"...Nonsense."
Fortunately, the interior lighting was dim.
Her hair was also let down, so Ah Bei wouldn't notice that her cheeks were burning.
Therefore, she really had a hard time dealing with this sudden attack.
How despicable.
That's really bad.
That despicable old man.
Ji Qingqian cursed inwardly several times, but still couldn't help but smile.
...
The North Gate is the closest school gate to the dormitory building.
The first dormitory we passed was the men's dormitory.
Ji Qingqian wanted to take the umbrella handle, but wanted Lu Yibei to go back to his dormitory first.
But Lu Yibei refused to yield an inch.
"I'll take you home first."
"It's not far."
"I'll take you back."
"I'm not stupid, I won't get lost."
I want to stay with you a little longer.
Lu Yibei said, "If we find a place to sit for a while, it will take too long and affect our rest. The time it takes to walk with you to the girls' dormitory is just right."
Ji Qingqian gently bit her lip, and as she lowered her hands, she also lowered her eyes.
Raindrops pattered onto the puddles on the ground.
My ears, which had just returned to normal, started to burn again.
"It's not like we'll never see each other again..." Ji Qingqian said.
He actually cared so much about those few minutes.
“We’ll calculate the future quantities later.” Lu Yibei said matter-of-factly, “Today is today, we can’t afford to lose a single penny. I’m a good man who knows how to calculate carefully.”
“She’s clearly being petty,” Ji Qingqian said.
A few minutes, just a few minutes.
Lu Yibei's words filled Ji Qingqian with a sense of anticipation during their few minutes of walking side by side.
Even though the rain was drizzling, she still hoped that the distance between the boys' dormitory and the girls' dormitory could be a little longer.
