Lin Zhi entered the private room, which was luxuriously appointed. He caught sight of a round dining table covered with a crisp white tablecloth. A young-looking couple sat at the table. The man wore rimless glasses and had fair skin. The woman wore delicate makeup, had short, curly hair, and a striking sapphire necklace.
"Mom and Dad, my sister is here."
Lin Zhi was a little surprised by Sheng Shang's address.
But facing Sheng's parents, she still smiled slightly and sat down.
Sheng's mother immediately greeted with a smile: "Miss Lin, please order."
Sheng's father also nodded.
Sheng Shang took the seat next to her father and distributed the menus.
Lin Zhi ordered his favorite food and waited for the waiter to come.
Sheng's mother looked at Lin Zhi with a warm smile, "Ms. Lin, I've seen your performance in the play 'Jun Wanyue'. It was very good."
"Thanks."
Lin Zhi smiled and nodded.
While the waiter came in, took away the menu and prepared the meal, the business in the private room got down to business.
Mother Sheng: "You are Lin Ying's sister. We only found out recently."
"Because I'm busy with work and we're a blended family, I don't have much time to spend with my younger sister."
To outsiders, Lin Zhi had to say some superficial words.
"What kind of person is Lin Ying's mother?"
Sheng's mother's question was immediately reminded by Sheng's father.
He pushed up his glasses, looking displeased.
Lin Zhi looked at her and said bluntly, "She... maybe she's going through menopause. You don't have to worry too much about her opinion. Ah Ying and Sheng Shang are truly in love, and getting married is the best choice for them."
"Can you persuade your stepmother?"
Sheng spoke in his native language and his attitude was extremely humble.
Lin Zhi was a little surprised.
She was just Sheng Shang's stepmother, but she didn't expect that she would do this for the son of her mistress.
Suddenly, Lin Zhi was moved.
Looking at Sheng's mother, she felt an inexplicable sense of sadness in her heart, thinking of the director of the welfare home telling her that she was abandoned by her biological parents.
"Ms. Lin, if it's difficult, we won't force you."
When Sheng's mother saw her lowering her brows, she thought she was unwilling.
The waiter came in to serve the food and the conversation was temporarily interrupted.
…
After dinner, Lin Zhi saw that it was still early, so he took a taxi to the old town.
He Chunni continued to live there after her father passed away.
When I got out of the car, I saw the word "demolish" in big red on the wall of the community.
It looks like the house is going to be demolished.
After entering the community, it was easy to find the apartment building where He Chunni lived with the help of the few dim street lights.
However, there was no light in the corridor and it was pitch black.
She could only turn on the light on her cell phone and walk up.
I arrived at the door and knocked, but no one answered for a long time.
Lin Zhi waited for a while, and then heard a sound from the corridor, as if someone was coming up. Sure enough, not long after, He Chunni appeared in a black cotton coat and a mask.
She saw Lin Zhi standing at the door, but didn't recognize him at first. It wasn't until she climbed the last step that she was surprised, "Lin Zhi?"
"It's me."
He Chunni found the key and opened the door, then asked, "Why are you here at this hour?"
The door opened and Lin Zhi said, "I want to talk to you about something."
He Chunni was immediately displeased. "How long have you been away from this home? Now that the house is being demolished, you're running away so fast."
Lin Zhi paused in closing the door and frowned slightly.
He Chunni sat down on the sofa with a gloomy face.
Lin Zhi walked over from the entrance and looked down at her. "You misunderstood. I'm not here for the house demolition, but for Lin Ying. Although she and I are not related by blood, we have a good relationship. I treat her as my own sister, so I have to take care of her marriage. As for your disagreement, that's your business. I'm here to inform you that her wedding with Sheng Shang will be in early March after the New Year."
"I'm her mother, I don't know why she got married."
He Chunni was angry. She stood up from the sofa and glared at Lin Zhi, as if she was ready to fight.
Lin Zhi was not afraid of her at all, and raised a sneer, "You are her mother, why do you want to stop her from being with Sheng Shang? I think you can't get any benefits from the Sheng family, so you don't agree."
"What nonsense are you talking about? I'm marrying my daughter off, not selling her. I'm not as dirty as you think."
"In that case, why don't you agree?"
"Sheng Shang is the illegitimate child of the mistress. From now on, he will have no share in the Sheng family's wealth."
He Chunni was threatening, but Lin Zhi was sober: "After all this, you're still after money."
He Chunni's thoughts were exposed, and she turned away guiltily, "I raised her, and she should take care of me in my old age. That girl doesn't think about herself, so as a mother, I have to worry about her."
"The Sheng family is one of the most affluent families in Fengcheng. The eldest sister of the Sheng family is now a rising star in the director industry. The eldest brother is in Country F. I heard that he is married and lives there permanently. Sheng Shang is an illegitimate child, but he is the youngest child. The Sheng family's parents will rely on Sheng Shang in the future. Do you think so-called illegitimate children are the same as those of ordinary families?"
Lin Zhi's words left He Chunni speechless.
After a long while, she softened her attitude and asked, "How do you know so much?"
"Sheng Shang's eldest sister is my classmate Sheng Yan. How could I not know about her family's affairs?"
Lin Zhi felt a little disappointed that iron was not as good as steel.
He Chunni was still undecided, "Aying is still studying and is not old enough to get married."
"She's in college and an adult. She's young and wants to get married, so why are you trying to stop her? Also, I heard that Sheng Shang knew Lin Ying when they were in elementary school, and they were neighbors back then. Is it because you know his mother that you're against it..."
"I don't know him. He's our neighbor, but he was raised by his grandmother."
