Wanruo never expected that her journey home would be so difficult, and she would even run into Jiang Xuejun.
She hurriedly said, "Miss Jiang."
Jiang Xuejun smiled and said, "Why didn't I see Miss Xu at the poetry gathering yesterday?"
"I've been sick these days and it's really inconvenient for me to go out. Thank you for your concern, Miss Jiang." Wanruo said softly.
She is still pale and certainly hasn't recovered yet.
"Miss Xu looks haggard. What's wrong with her?"
"I just caught a cold. I feel better today, so I came to the garden for a walk. I was thinking of picking some peach blossom petals from the peach forest to use in my medicinal food. The old lady likes peach blossoms."
Xie Xiuzhu couldn't stay still at all. When the two of them were talking, her mind wandered off to catch butterflies.
Jiang Xuejun was surprised and asked, "Miss Xu can also make medicinal food?"
"It's just that my family runs a medicinal herb business, and I learned some skills since I was a child. Fortunately, the old lady likes me. Otherwise, how could an orphan like me find a place in the Xie family?"
Wanruo said that it was watertight, and Jiang Xuejun's doubts were dispelled a little.
"But I heard that it was the eldest son who made the decision that Miss Xu could stay in the Xie family." Jiang Xuejun asked tentatively again.
Wan Ruo's eyes were sincere. "My cousin was kind. He took pity on me and my brother and took us in. I was naturally grateful to him, but he didn't care. He just said it was a small favor and didn't take it to heart. Later, when I entered the mansion, I lived in a remote place, in the inner courtyard, so I didn't have many opportunities to see him."
Jiang Xuejun asked, "Where does the girl live?"
"It's in the Qiushui Courtyard, the deepest part of the Western Garden. Although it's a bit out of the way, it's quiet and peaceful, and you usually don't see anyone there."
Xie Xianyu's Songhe Garden was in the East Garden, while Wanruo lived in the westernmost part. If there really was something wrong, how could he let her live so far away? It was obvious that he really didn't care about it.
Jiang Xuejun's heart was completely relieved, and he looked at Wan Ruo with a little more kindness: "You are also pitiful. If you have any difficulties in the future, you can tell me."
Wanruo smiled and said, "Thank you, Miss Jiang."
Jiang Xuejun changed the subject: "I just arrived today and heard the servants below talking about how the eldest master brought a girl here yesterday. I don't know who it was. I originally thought that if I could meet her, I could even recognize her as sisters in advance."
Wan Ruo was surprised and asked, "Is there such a thing?"
She frowned and thought for a moment, "But the eldest master never gets close to women. I'm quite familiar with the maids in the mansion, and I haven't heard any rumors before. Perhaps it's someone from outside?"
Jiang Xuejun was stunned for a moment, and felt that this guess was more credible.
Although Xu Wanruo is pretty, as a merchant's daughter, she must not have much substance. Mr. Xie is well-read, and such a pretty face would definitely not catch his eye.
Otherwise, how could she be so shabby in the Xie family, living in such a remote courtyard, wearing plain clothes and not even a decent piece of jewelry?
Jiang Xuejun smiled and said, "Well, if we're destined to meet, I can see you in the future."
"Then I'll be leaving first."
Wanruo was about to say goodbye when Jiang Xuejun grabbed her hand and said, "I'm hosting a banquet at Taiming Lake in a couple of days. Miss Xu, please do me the honor of coming out to enjoy the spring."
Wan Ruo hesitated for a moment: "Forget it, I'm not well yet..."
"It's early spring now, and taking a walk in the sun during the day is good for your health. If you feel tired, just sit in the water pavilion and drink tea. It won't make you tired. You didn't come to the poetry gathering yesterday, but you must come to the spring outing in two days."
Jiang Xuejun said as he handed her a post.
Wanruo pursed her lips and had to answer: "Thank you, Miss Jiang."
"Then you should go quickly. It's important to take care of yourself."
Wanruo nodded and left.
