Chapter 33 Do you dare to lie to me?

"Maybe someone familiar with Miss Xu? Miss Xu fell into the water, and her dress was completely soaked. A scholar in a cloak came in from nowhere and took off his cloak to put on her in time. Otherwise, I don't know how miserable she would have been."

Is she someone she knows?

Xie Xianyu's eyes darkened, and there was a hint of hostility between his calm brows. He didn't ask any more questions and turned away.

Jiang Xuejun looked at his departing back, her face distorted little by little.

"Don't be impatient, young lady. This kind of vixen will only seduce men. Master Xie will definitely see through her true colors!"

Jiang Xuejun suppressed her jealousy and pretended to be calm: "It's just a toy. I will be the mistress of the Xie family in the future. How can I take such a thing seriously?"

"That's right. The girl is a noble lady and would not use such dirty tricks to seduce men. Only someone of her humble background could do such a thing as a prostitute."

Jiang Xuejun raised his chin and left Xie's house.

Qiu Shui Courtyard.

After Xie Xianyu left, Wanruo opened her eyes.

"Miss, Miss Jiang has left." Su Yue came in and said.

Wanruo propped herself up and sat up, saying calmly, "I know."

"Miss Jiang has decided to leave. She is so cruel. She didn't provoke you, but she attacked you as soon as she arrived. If you don't know how to swim, and are caught and carried ashore by that vulgar servant, I dare not imagine what will happen to you."

Su Yue's tone was filled with resentment.

"There are always as many fights in the inner house as outside, but I don't understand how Jiang Xuejun knows about the relationship between Xie Xianyu and me."

During the last Spring Outing Banquet, Jiang Xuejun hadn't done anything to her. He just used her as a tool to show off his kindness.

But it's only been a few days, how did she find out?

Xie Xianyu had promised her that he would be able to take a concubine legally after marriage, so he naturally would not expose her.

Although the servants in Songhe Garden knew about their relationship, Xie Xianyu was very strict with his subordinates. The servants in Songhe Garden even thought that the eldest lady and the eldest master were trying to fool them. The entire garden was like an iron barrel, and everyone was very tight-lipped.

Wanruo frowned, unable to figure out the reason for a moment. What made her even more uneasy was that was Jiang Xuejun the only one who knew about her relationship with Xie Xianyu?

Su Yue was worried about her husband: "Then aren't you worried that Jiang Xuejun will tell everyone about the relationship between you and the eldest son?"

"If she wanted to tell others about it, she would have done it long ago. She's just worried that I'd take advantage of this opportunity to become Xie Xianyu's concubine."

Su Yue was terrified: "No wonder, she wanted to kill me from now on. If she is so cruel before she even gets married, how will I live my life if she really gets married?"

She wasn't afraid of her, but what was the point of living like this if she spent all day in this backyard scheming against each other just to win the favor of a man?

After a while, the doctor came. After examining Wanruo, he said that she just caught a cold and it was nothing serious. She just needed to drink some cold medicine and rest more.

After Wanruo drank the medicine, she fell into a deep sleep.

But this sleep was not peaceful, as if she was in a cage, unable to escape, hitting a wall everywhere, as if a big net wrapped her up, tightly fitting her, making it hard to breathe.

Xie Xianyu's gloomy face suddenly appeared. He pinched her neck, his slender fingers tightening: "Wanwan, do you dare to lie to me?"

Wanruo was startled awake, and what she saw was the sky-blue bed curtains and the dim light and shadows. She calmed down after a moment of fear.

But suddenly I heard a voice beside my ear: "Awake?"

She turned her head and saw Xie Xianyu sitting beside the bed. Her heartbeat, which had just calmed down, suddenly accelerated and her face turned a few shades paler.

He frowned slightly and raised his hand to touch the sweat on her forehead: "Did you have a nightmare?"

Wanruo shuddered when his warm fingers pricked her, and subconsciously turned her head away.

His fingers paused, and his eyes darkened.

Wanruo finally came to her senses from the nightmare, sat up from the bed, and took his hand: "Why are you here?"

Xie Xianyu's big hand was wrapped in her two small hands. Her palms were slightly sweaty and sticky. He liked cleanliness and didn't like any dirt, but now he felt unexpectedly comfortable.

The slight displeasure that had risen just now had mostly dissipated by now.

"I was worried you might be sick again, so I came to see you after I finished my work."

Wanruo glanced at the night outside. It was already late. She said considerately, "Cousin, you are working so hard on this case. Don't worry about me. The doctor has been here and said I'm fine. You should go and rest early."

He took her small hand in his palm and said casually, "The case is over. I have some free time and can spend more time with you."

Wanruo's eyes paused slightly. Is he free now?

"Did you have a nightmare just now?" he asked suddenly.

Wanruo's throat tightened and she nodded gently: "Yeah."

"What dream?"

She lowered her eyes and said, "I dreamed that I was being chased by a wolf and I couldn't escape it no matter how hard I tried."

He touched her pale face and said, "Maybe she was frightened by the sunset. Don't be afraid."

Wanruo looked up at him. This handsome face, so close to her, overlapped with the man who was strangling her neck in her nightmare, and her heart trembled.

If one day Xie Xianyu discovered that she had lied to him, would he strangle her to death like in his dream?

He will definitely do it, even more than that.

So she must not let him find out, she warned herself secretly.

He suddenly asked, "How did you get rescued when you fell into the water?"

"I've been following my father into the mountains to collect herbs since I was little, and I can swim. Even though I haven't been in the water for a few years, I still remember some of it, so I went ashore on my own."

"I heard that a scholar came in the other day to put on your robe." His dark eyes locked onto hers, scrutinizing her with a look of scrutiny. "Is he someone you know?"

Wanruo's heart suddenly tightened and her breathing stopped for a moment.

"We're not familiar with each other, but we met once before when I asked for directions at my mansion. He's probably a kind-hearted person. One day, I was strolling near that manor and heard someone crying for help, so I ran in to save them."

Wanruo met his slightly cold eyes with a clear gaze.

His expression was indifferent, and his tone was calm: "Is it such a coincidence?"

But Wanruo knew that when he was calmest, he was often the most dangerous.
