Chapter 70 Nowhere to Escape (2/2)

The matchmaker hurriedly took the veil and covered Wanruo with it, then she and Suyue helped her out, one on each side.

As soon as I entered the courtyard, I saw the bride's receptionist come in first. He smiled and bowed, "Miss, the bridal sedan has arrived. Please get in."

Su Yue glanced around and asked, "Where is Lord Lin?"

"There's an urgent matter that needs to be attended to right now. Lord Lin was about to go out, but he hurried back. He asked me to bring the sedan chair to take the young lady away first. When Lord Lin is done with his work, he will marry the young lady in the hall."

Su Yue's face turned pale when she heard this: "Why don't you come to greet me in person?"

The lawyer smiled helplessly: "Isn't this something unexpected? Young lady also knows that the master has been busy and exhausted these days because of the mess in the yamen. He hasn't left the yamen for a few days. Please understand and be considerate of me."

Su Yue frowned and looked at Wan Ruo: "Miss."

Wanruo was covered with a veil, so Suyue couldn't see her expression, but she heard her say softly, "Forget it, get in the sedan."

It is not necessary for the groom to personally pick up the bride at a wedding. If the social status of the bride and groom is quite different, someone else may do it for them.

She didn't know whether Lin Han really had something urgent to do or was deliberately trying to suppress her.

She hoped it was her ex. At least the Lin Han she knew was not someone who would secretly plot such things. They had already reached the wedding day, so could he call off the wedding because of such a small matter?

Xu Shujin was a little angry and wanted to say something, but Wanruo grabbed his hand and squeezed it: "Ajin, today is a happy day."

Xu Shujin shut his mouth in frustration, but his eyes were red with reluctance. If he was the older brother, he would surely be able to pass the imperial examination and become a high-ranking official early on. In this way, when his elder sister got married, she would definitely not be treated with such disdain!

The master smiled and apologized: "It really happened for a reason. Master Lin is also very sorry. Please don't blame me, young lady. It's a happy day, why bother with it?"

"Young lady, please get in the sedan chair."

Wanruo pursed her lips and said nothing more. She held Suyue's hand and got into the sedan chair.

The sound of suona rang out, and the master shouted, "Lift the sedan chair!"

The bridal sedan decorated with flower clusters was lifted up and carried out of the alley and into the street to the sound of music.

Wanruo sat in the bridal sedan, staring at her own white hands under the veil. The uneasiness in her heart suddenly intensified. It was clearly her wedding day, but why did she feel a fear of impending danger?

She shook her head, forcing herself not to think too much.

The bridal sedan was moving with the sound of music and drums. Suddenly, the sound stopped and it became quiet outside, even dead silent.

Then, the sedan chair fell to the ground. She was stunned. Did it arrive so soon?

But the county government office is far away from Huaishu Lane. If the parade was slow, it would take at least half an hour. How could it be so fast?

She called out uneasily, "Su Yue."

But no one outside responded to her.

"Su Yue?"

She shouted again, but there was still dead silence outside.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps approaching, and her heart tightened as they approached the sedan chair. The footsteps gave her a familiar sense of fear.

She sat stiffly in the sedan chair, with nowhere to escape and could only wait.

The man walked to the door of the sedan chair, and the curtain of the sedan chair was lifted. The dim interior of the sedan chair was illuminated by the sunlight that came in, and her eyes were hurt by it.

A hand stretched out, palm facing up. She lowered her eyes and saw the hand clearly visible under the red veil. It was as slender as jade, with distinct knuckles. It was a hand that she was very familiar with.

Her heart suddenly tightened, and for a moment she felt as if she couldn't breathe, and the blood in her body stagnated.
