Chapter 54 Zhao Yu snatches the inner garment and is injured.
Zhao Yu left the Xu family.
Xiao Qingyan appeared in front, sword in hand, his gaze coldly fixed on Zhao Yu.
"He'an, I've let it slide this time for the sake of the past, but if you go to Chu Mian again next time, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Zhao Yu approached him step by step, his face cold and stern, but his narrow phoenix eyes were fixed on the cloth bag in Xiao Qingyan's hand.
Without hesitation, he drew his sword and thrust it towards the cloth bag.
Xiao Qingyan realized Zhao Yu's intentions and cursed him for being shameless. The two quickly began to fight, with Xiao Qingyan dodging frequently and not letting Zhao Yu touch him at all.
The two exchanged words back and forth. Who would have thought that the reason for the street fight between a member of the Imperial Guard and a Minister of Justice would be a set of undergarments?
Zhao Yu's injuries hadn't fully healed, and after a few movements, his wounds began to reopen.
Familiar footsteps sounded behind me.
Finally, Zhao Yu obtained the item, and Xiao Qingyan's sword ended up on Zhao Yu's shoulder.
The air smelled of blood.
Zhao Yu's expression remained unchanged.
Xu Chumian came to Xiao Qingyan's side and breathed a sigh of relief after checking that he was unharmed. Then she looked at Zhao Yu and met the man's dark and intimidating gaze, which was filled with intense emotions that almost made Xu Chumian look away.
The next moment, she saw the injury on Zhao Yu's shoulder.
The wound is a combination of old and new injuries.
Large amounts of blood spilled out.
Xu Chumian wanted to say something, but then stopped.
Zhao Yu stared intently at her, a few strands of hair falling across his forehead, his thin lips pale, as if he were trying his best to endure something, his eyes filled with despair and resentment.
Finally, Xu Chumian bit her lip and looked away.
Zhao Yu's eyes were deathly still.
Xiao Qingyan put his arm around her waist and leaned against her naturally. "Chumian, I twisted my ankle."
Xu Chumian frowned. "Liu Dayou has some liniment for bruises and sprains. Go and apply it."
Xiao Qingyan glanced at Zhao Yu, who remained silent, and a wild smile spread across his face. He replied, "Okay."
The two walked past Zhao Yu.
Zhao Yu grasped Xu Chumian's wrist.
Many words lingered in his throat, but uttering them was difficult and bitter.
Zhao Yu closed his eyes briefly and called out to her, "Chu Mian."
The man's voice was low, with a tremor at the end, as he tried to grab Xu Chumian one more time.
This was the first time Xu Chumian had seen Zhao Yu show such sorrow and fear.
She pursed her lips, her heart pounding.
All that could be heard was the sound of the wind. She looked into the dark night and opened her mouth to say, "Zhao Yu, you should go. Your wound still needs to be treated."
Zhao Yu didn't move, still holding her wrist tightly.
Xu Chumian pulled his hand away, forcing a smile, "Zhao Yu, I really want you to be well."
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhao Yu seemed to lose all his strength. His wrists loosened, and a slight smile appeared on his lips, as if mocking him.
Xu Chumian stared at the dark ground and didn't say anything more.
In the blink of an eye, Zhao Yu regained his usual indifference and aloofness. He didn't look at Xu Chumian again, strode away, mounted his horse, and only when the sound of the horse's hooves faded into the distance did Xu Chumian come to her senses.
Xu Chumian was still looking at the ground. She tugged at the corner of her lips and said, "You didn't even have a chance to try it before he snatched it away."
Xiao Qingyan's eyes flashed with complex emotions. He ruffled Xu Chumian's hair and said casually, "But you, you've suffered with your technique and effort. Zhao Yu is a bastard—"
Xiao Qingyan suddenly stopped and didn't say anything more.
Xu Chumian took his arm, pursed her lips, and said, "You two are good friends, in the future—"
Xiao Qingyan shook his head, cutting off Xu Chumian's next words.
"We've known each other for a long time, so we have a clear conscience. As for the rest, let He'an figure it out himself."
Seeing that Xu Chumian was still looking at him, Xiao Qingyan leaned down and touched her forehead, "You don't need to worry, I'm here for you."
"I will take you to see your maternal grandmother in five days."
Xu Chumian then responded with an "Mmm".
-
Zhao Yu rode his horse all the way back to the Duke's mansion.
The gatekeeper exclaimed in alarm, "Your Highness, you're injured! I'll go fetch a doctor!"
Zhao Yu said in a deep voice, "It's alright."
Zhao Yu's face was cold and stern, and he looked extremely ugly. The servants nearby all moved away, wondering who had recently offended this ruthless Zhao Yu.
On the way back to Songchi Academy, another figure appeared by the side of the path.
That's Qin Ruoyu.
Recently, everyone in the manor knew that something was wrong with Songchi Courtyard. The maids and servants there were all tight-lipped and dared not utter a word. Qin Ruoyu endured for several days without going there, but finally couldn't wait any longer and waited for Zhao Yu by the roadside.
Qin Ruoyu was holding several plum blossoms in her hands. When she saw Zhao Yu, she raised her face at the best angle and showed a well-behaved smile.
"Big brother."
Zhao Yu stopped and his gaze fell on the plum branch.
His voice was icy: "Where was it broken?"
Because of the wind, Qin Ruoyu didn't hear clearly. She took two steps forward, and a strong aroma of spices wafted out.
"Big brother, what did you say?"
Where was it broken from?
Zhao Yu's gaze was cold, and his tone was calm, but Qin Ruoyu felt a sudden fear in her heart. She took a step back while holding the plum branch, but accidentally stepped on a stone and fell backward to the ground.
Qin Ruoyu said in a trembling voice, "It's the plum grove in my elder brother's courtyard."
A slight chuckle escaped Zhao Yu's throat. "Stop doing stupid things. The Duke's mansion is willing to arrange a marriage for you out of respect for your father and brothers. Otherwise, you won't be so lucky next time."
Zhao Yu left.
Qin Ruoyu remained in the slumped position, too afraid to move.
The maid who had been hiding in the shadows rushed over. "Miss, are you alright?"
Qin Ruoyu sobbed and cried.
She just likes her older brother and wants to see him more often. What did she do wrong?
As Zhao Yu approached Songchi Courtyard, another figure appeared inside.
Zhao Yu frowned. "What are you doing here?"
Zhao Lingyao was eating pastries expressionlessly under the eaves when she saw Zhao Yu and immediately burst into tears: "Big brother! My mother hit me!"
Zhao Yu had a headache from the noise.
"Go back to crying if you want to."
Zhao Lingyao sobbed as she spoke, "Today, during the small test at the manor, Teacher Yu gave me a failing grade, and my mother got angry and hit me."
After Zhao Lingyao finished speaking, she noticed the injury on her elder brother's shoulder. Like a grasshopper, she immediately took a step back and shouted, "Quickly, call a doctor!"
"Quiet," Zhao Yu said impatiently. "So what did you come to see me for?"
Zhao Lingyao: "Brother, Master Yu said your writing is good, so he asked me to borrow your old homework so I can take another quiz in a few days."
"Hey? Brother, what are you carrying?"
