Chapter 13 Why are you still stopping them from saving people?

However, when the other educated youth at the settlement learned that Du Ruoxia was actually taking a day off, the educated youth were all unhappy, especially the older educated youth. They hadn't had a single day off in the past two months, while the new educated youth had just arrived and had taken a day off. Now, Du Ruoxia, this new educated youth, was taking another day off.

Jiang Dezhu had no choice but to let all the educated youth rest, not wanting them to make a fuss.

The educated youth were taking a break, but the villagers were unhappy. Why did the educated youth get a holiday while they didn't? Did they think that people from the city were more pampered?

"Alright, alright, this has caused quite a stir." Jiang Dezhu waved his hand and declared that everyone should take a day off.

The next day, many people from Yuxi Village took the first bus to the county town. On the bus, Du Ruoxia saw He Chunhong and Lin Meifeng, the two aunts she had argued with, and He Meiling in front of her was chatting with Wang Sufeng.

Luo Xiaojuan was short of money and didn't want to go to the supply and marketing cooperative, while Tian Xueying preferred to read quietly and didn't like joining in the fun.

When the bus arrived in the county town, everyone got off one after another. Some people chose to have a big meal at the state-run restaurant first and then visit the supply and marketing cooperative. Others went straight to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy things. In those days, there were still some speculators who sold things without needing coupons. The older educated youth who arrived early and some daring villagers would go straight to those vendors.

Du Ruoxia first went to the supply and marketing cooperative and ate a bowl of shredded pork noodles. The food at the educated youth settlement was not only vegetarian but also made up of coarse grains, which made the shredded pork noodles seem like a delicacy.

After she had eaten and drunk her fill, she discovered that there was a military compound ahead of her. It seemed that there must be troops stationed here. As she walked, several teenagers ran out of the alley, wearing military green and navy blue clothes that looked a bit like old-fashioned military uniforms, running back and forth.

Looking at the innocent little faces, Du Ruoxia couldn't help but smile.

Suddenly, a scream came from behind.

Du Ruoxia turned around subconsciously.

The boy who was playing around just now somehow had his leg run over by a car that suddenly appeared.

Almost instinctively, Du Ruoxia rushed over.

At this moment, many people were gathered around the boy who had been in a car accident.

The boy lay on the ground, his face pale and covered in tears, whimpering in pain.

The people around were in a panic, and the driver got out of the car in a fluster, sweating profusely.

Du Ruoxia squeezed in, squatted down, and checked the boy's legs.

The car wasn't going fast, and although the driver braked suddenly, it still hit the boy's leg.

Du Ruoxia patted the boy's head and wiped away the tears on his face.

The boy felt the touch on his head and looked at Du Ruoxia through teary eyes.

Du Ruoxia lowered her voice: "Sweetie, tell Auntie what your name is?"

The boy stopped crying, looked into Du Ruoxia's gentle eyes, and choked out two words: "Zhang Zhanpeng."

Hearing the boy say his name, Du Ruoxia nodded and continued, "Zhanpeng, you'll be alright. Auntie is a doctor, let me check your leg now."

The boy was completely bewildered and terrified. He nodded, sobbing, upon hearing Du Ruoxia's words.

Seeing the bloodstains on the boy's pants, Du Ruoxia tore them open.

Hey! What are you doing?

"Are you sure you can handle it before you start?"

Those around Du Ruoxia spoke up to stop her.

Du Ruoxia looked up at the two aunts who were speaking, and said calmly, "Don't worry, I'll check the child's wound."

Hearing Du Ruoxia say this, the two aunts fell silent.

Du Ruoxia tore open the boy's pants at the calf, revealing an open wound. Du Ruoxia examined the boy's leg, and the boy shuddered in pain as soon as she touched it.

With a sob in her voice, she said, "Auntie, it hurts."

"Well, the initial assessment is that it's a fracture. You're still bleeding. I'll bandage it for you first, and then I'll take you to the hospital."

Du Ruoxia looked around but couldn't find anything suitable to bandage her up. She then looked down at her skirt.

She simply tore a strip off the hem of the skirt.

They tied it to the boy's leg to stop the bleeding.

As soon as Du Ruoxia was tied up, voices of doubt arose again from the crowd.

"Du Ruoxia, what are you doing? What are you doing messing around like this? Can you take responsibility if something happens?"

The woman's voice was somewhat shrill, jarring in the noisy crowd.

Du Ruoxia frowned and looked toward the source of the voice—Lin Meifeng.

He Chunhong chimed in, "That's right, don't think you can do everything just because you're from the city."

He Meiling and Wang Sufen also gathered around.

Du Ruoxia ignored it; now was not the time for arguments. She needed to quickly fix the boy's position.

"Could you please help me find something like a wooden stick? The child's leg needs to be immobilized."

Many people watched Du Ruoxia's actions and did not doubt her despite Lin Meifeng's questioning. Many people even helped to gather wooden sticks.

"Auntie, is this okay?"

Du Ruoxia looked at the little girl in front of her, took the wooden stick, and smiled, "Okay, thank you."

Just as they were about to secure it, the wooden stick was knocked aside by He Chunhong, who had spoken earlier.

Even with Du Ruoxia's good temper, she got angry this time.

What exactly do you want?

"What am I doing? I'd like to ask Du Ruoxia what you're doing."

"You can't see that someone needs to be saved?"

Lin Meifeng made sarcastic remarks: "Who knows if you're saving people or harming them? Are you a doctor? What qualifications do you have to save people here?"

Du Ruoxia picked up the wooden stick and continued bandaging, but the people around her stopped the two women from helping.

"What's wrong with you two? Why are you stopping them from saving people?"

"Yeah, who are you?"

"Who are you? Instead of helping people, you're stopping others. Do you have a grudge against that child?"

The people around them chimed in, making Lin Meifeng and Wang Sufeng blush with embarrassment.

"No, it's this Du Ruoxia, she's not a good person!"

Enraged, Lin Meifeng let out a loud roar.

"You think your mediocre medical skills can save people? Du Ruoxia, let me tell you, if anything happens to this child, they won't let you off the hook. Stop pretending to be kind."

He Chunhong: "Yes, Du Ruoxia is just an educated youth sent to the countryside. She only knows how to seduce men in the village. She comes here to pretend to be a nurse. I wonder who she's trying to fool?"

He Chunhong and Lin Meifeng were hostile towards Du Ruoxia. They didn't like the female educated youth from the city to begin with, and after Du Ruoxia caused them to lose work points yesterday, they disliked her even more, which is why they started talking nonsense.

Wang Sufeng and He Meiling were watching the show in the crowd. Wang Sufeng couldn't stand it anymore and wanted to step forward to explain, but He Meiling grabbed her arm and said, "Sufeng, don't cause trouble."

Although Wang Sufeng didn't particularly like Du Ruoxia, they had overheard He Chunhong and Lin Meifeng's nasty remarks in the field yesterday. Du Ruoxia wasn't at fault at all; she simply couldn't stand such despicable people, so she spoke up anyway:

"Aunt He, Aunt Lin, you two are really good at framing people. Don't you just dislike the pretty educated youth in the village? You two have to kick any female educated youth you don't like."
