Chapter 53 We're just taking what we need

Yang Zeyan remained silent, as if he was sulking. After the meal, he quietly cleared the dishes and went to wash them.

Unable to fathom his thoughts, Du Ruoxia placed the documents she had brought back on the desk and prepared to begin translating.

After Yang Zeyan finished washing the dishes, he sat down in front of Du Ruoxia. The two remained locked in a stalemate until Yang Zeyan finally gave in.

"Where have you been these past few days?" Yang Zeyan's tone was somewhat displeased, and upon closer listening, it even carried a hint of resentment.

Du Ruoxia thought that she had upset him because she hadn't told him about her work, so she quickly explained, "I found another part-time job. Let me tell you, Director Xin is a nice guy, and I get a good salary every day."

Du Ruoxia was about to continue talking about her translation work when Yang Zeyan interrupted her.

"Are you...?" Yang Zeyan's eyes were fixed on Du Ruoxia.

Du Ruoxia's smile froze. This Song Hongjiao was too unreliable. Her attitude softened. "Um, Yang Zeyan, please don't be angry, okay?"

"Continue," Yang Zeyan said, his gaze fixed on her without wavering.

Du Ruoxia suddenly realized she was in trouble; Yang Zeyan seemed difficult to appease.

"It was Zhou Mengrou who came to Song Hongjiao's house to bully her, so I helped her out. Then I went to the library to find something to do, and then..." Du Ruoxia paused here.

She said that Yang Zeyan's expression was already not good when she helped Song Hongjiao out of a predicament. If she had a conflict with those people, Yang Zeyan would probably be even angrier.

"Speak," Yang Zeyan said, still maintaining a composed expression.

Du Ruoxia looked at Yang Zeyan pitifully, her eyes shimmering, but Yang Zeyan just wouldn't answer.

"Yang Zeyan, can you please stop looking at me like that? I'm scared." Du Ruoxia lowered her voice, looking extremely pitiful.

Yang Zeyan's face stiffened upon hearing this. He coughed and then looked at the coffee table.

Du Ruoxia took a deep breath. Oh my god, she was terrified by Yang Zeyan's gaze!

"Tell me, I'm not angry," Yang Zeyan said in a muffled voice, which sounded strange to Du Ruoxia.

"Oh, oh, I mean, when I went to the library, those people surrounded me, trying to do something inappropriate, and then we got into a fight."

Du Ruoxia spoke cautiously, while keeping an eye on Yang Zeyan's expression. If Yang Zeyan was about to get angry, she wanted to run away immediately.

"Did they bully you?" Yang Zeyan immediately rushed to Du Ruoxia's side to check.

"No, no, they didn't bully me!" Du Ruoxia shook her head frantically as she pushed him away.

Yang Zeyan still didn't believe it, and without saying a word, he picked up Du Ruoxia and carried her inside.

Du Ruoxia tried to struggle, but Yang Zeyan's strength was far inferior to hers, and she was quickly put on the bed.

"Yang Zeyan, calm down. I really wasn't bullied. It was them who were bullied by me!" Du Ruoxia explained anxiously.

Yang Zeyan had already started to undress Du Ruoxia, but stopped after hearing her words. His expression turned even worse, and his eyes instantly turned bloodshot.

This was the first time Du Ruoxia had seen Yang Zeyan like this, and she backed away in fear.

Yang Zeyan wasn't about to let her dodge; he grabbed her foot and dragged her in front of him.

Du Ruoxia was wearing newly bought clothes, but they were torn to shreds in no time by Yang Zeyan, leaving only her undergarments.

Du Ruoxia was terrified. She instinctively pulled the blanket over herself, her eyes welling up with tears of grievance.

Yang Zeyan froze as he stared at Du Ruoxia's smooth body.

Du Ruoxia looked at him accusingly, as if she were looking at a lecherous man.

Stimulated by Du Ruoxia's gaze, Yang Zeyan snapped out of his daze and regretfully tried to go forward to comfort her.

Du Ruoxia retreated in fear, and Yang Zeyan's pupils contracted, prompting him to retreat as well.

He apologized to Du Ruoxia with a face full of remorse, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I just wanted to..."

"Get out!" Du Ruoxia yelled at him.

Seeing that Du Ruoxia was too emotional, Yang Zeyan took a set of clothes for her from the closet and turned away dejectedly.

As soon as Yang Zeyan turned around, Du Ruoxia's tears started falling, unable to vent her grievances.

Yang Zeyan, who had just come out, sat on the coffee table in a daze.

Perhaps because he hadn't rested well for too long, the dark circles under his eyes had become so deep they were almost black, but even so, he didn't feel tired at all.

Du Ruoxia sat curled up on the bed for a while, feeling both angry and aggrieved. She and Yang Zeyan were clearly in a cooperative relationship, so how could he take off her clothes!

Thinking of this, Du Ruoxia was furious. Even in the 21st century, no business partner would be treated like this!

"Bastard, you stinky man!" Du Ruoxia started cursing as she cried, her voice loud enough to be heard in the living room.

Yang Zeyan, who was outside, looked even more annoyed. He clearly wanted to care about Du Ruoxia, but he couldn't control himself. The thought of Du Ruoxia being bullied made him furious, and he didn't care about anything else.

Listening to Du Ruoxia constantly cursing him, Yang Zeyan wished even more that Du Ruoxia would come out and beat him up; he would definitely not fight back.

But Du Ruoxia wasn't that kind of person. She was furious and trembled with anger at Yang Zeyan's unreasonable treatment.

Du Ruoxia hadn't believed Yang Zeyan's intention to force himself on her before, but now she wasn't so sure.

She had always thought Yang Zeyan was a very conservative person when they were alone together in a room. After all, in the 1970s, apart from free love, other ideas were still quite traditional.

Du Ruoxia's mind was filled with the image of Yang Zeyan's scarlet eyes looking at her, a gaze that was domineering and full of intense possessiveness, which terrified her just thinking about it.

"No, I can't stay here any longer. I'm not his possession. We made a promise, how can it be changed!" Du Ruoxia jumped up from the bed excitedly.

Yang Zeyan was still staring at the food in front of him, deep in thought, his mind racing as he tried to figure out how to get Du Ruoxia to eat and calm her down, when Du Ruoxia opened the door and came out on her own.

Yang Zeyan's eyes lit up instantly, and he quickly stood up, wanting to go to meet him.

"Don't move!" Du Ruoxia stopped her.

Yang Zeyan immediately stopped and looked at Du Ruoxia with guilt. Just as he was about to apologize, Du Ruoxia did not give him the chance.

"I remember it very clearly. We agreed to get married together and then not interfere with each other."

“I admit that you helped me and I am grateful, but this gratitude does not include repaying you with my body.”

As Du Ruoxia spoke, she took out the paper in her hand, which was the one that recorded her spending.

Yang Zeyan stared intently at the paper in her hand, as if he wanted to bore a hole through it, his chest heaving.

“This is the money I’ve spent. I’ll pay you back when I earn money,” Du Ruoxia said, pausing before continuing, “I don’t think we’re a good match.”

As soon as Du Ruoxia spoke, Yang Zeyan deflated like a punctured balloon, his eyes quickly filled with terror.

“Originally, I wanted to play the role of your nominal wife well, so that we could each get what we needed and become partners fighting side by side.” Du Ruoxia felt bad seeing Yang Zeyan’s disappointed look, so she simply looked at the floor and said softly.

Du Ruoxia was not used to this atmosphere. In her previous life, she had no experience in being with a partner, so she could only make a basic judgment about Yang Zeyan's thoughts.
