Chapter 72 What is she if not a seductive enchantress?

Chapter 72 What is she if not a seductive enchantress?

Seeing that Du Ruoxia had no room for negotiation, the train police officer finally nodded.

"How would you like compensation?" the train police officer asked Du Ruoxia with a smile.

Du Ruoxia smiled faintly, "We don't want to see them again. Arrange a quiet spot for them."

This request was not unreasonable, and the train police officer granted Du Ruoxia's request.

When Gao Songbai found out, he was completely dumbfounded. These things were beyond his comprehension. He immediately jumped up to grab his things.

The train police moved them to an empty carriage, which Du Ruoxia found satisfactory.

"Comrade, what do you think of this place? It's the spare carriage for the leaders," the train police officer said obsequiously.

“This is good, you can go ahead and get busy,” Du Ruoxia said generously.

As soon as the train police officer left, Gao Songbai looked at Wang Hu with admiration, "Comrade, you're amazing!"

Du Ruoxia smiled, pursing her lips. "Isn't it because I'm amazing?"

Gao Songbai scratched his head. "Hehe, Comrade Du is also impressive."

“They have some connections. We’ll get our revenge later,” Wang Hu said calmly.

Du Ruoxia understood Wang Hu's meaning: they would make plans once they arrived in Xilan City.

After this incident, Du Ruoxia wasn't as enthusiastic about getting off at the next stop. She spent her time chatting with Gao Songbai, learning about Xilan City through him.

In Du Ruoxia's mind, Xilan City should be very backward now, and its pace of opening up is far behind.

Gao Songbai's description is indeed true; their village is extremely backward, and these problems cannot be changed overnight.

Gaojiazhuang, where Gao Songbai's family lives, was the most severely affected by the disaster, but no one paid attention to their complaints.

“The landslide is so severe, let’s go take a look and help as much as we can,” Du Ruoxia said to Gao Songbai.

Gao Songbai was deeply moved. Their village was counting on the few people who had gone out to work to go back and say a few words so that the country would take notice.

"Thank you so much!" Gao Songbai said sincerely.

The three reached a consensus and chatted and laughed along the way.

Du Ruoxia then realized that Wang Hu was not a silent person; he just hadn't had the opportunity.

He undergoes high-intensity training year-round, so he doesn't have much time for casual conversation.

They ate dinner on the train and then spent the rest of the time snacking.

The weather changed as soon as they entered Xilan City; there was thunder and lightning outside, even more severe than Du Ruoxia had anticipated.

"I didn't expect that the reports from back then were just the tip of the iceberg. It seems there aren't many good places in the entire Xilan City," Du Ruoxia thought to herself.

The night passed quickly, and soon they arrived in Xilan City.

When they got off the train in Xilan City, it was still raining heavily. Du Ruoxia had an umbrella, but Wang Hu and Gao Songbai did not.

She suggested that the three of them squeeze in, and Wang Hu rushed straight into the rain.

"Gao Songbai, it's raining so hard, how far is your home from the city?" Du Ruoxia asked, raising her voice.

The rain outside was so heavy that Gao Songbai raised his voice in reply, "An hour and a half!"

Du Ruoxia wanted to say something more, but through her hazy peripheral vision, she saw an unexpected person.

The family of five also got off the bus. The old woman glared angrily at Du Ruoxia's umbrella, but Du Ruoxia ignored her. They could only run away.

After walking across the open-air platform, they arrived at the exit.

There were no cars outside, not even any touts.

"Looks like we'll have to make do at the guesthouse for the night," Du Ruoxia said helplessly, looking at the torrential rain.

"No need, we'll just find somewhere to take shelter from the rain," Gao Songbai suggested.

“Let’s get a room; we need somewhere to put our luggage.” Wang Hu agreed with Du Ruoxia’s suggestion.

There were quite a few people at the entrance of the guesthouse, many of whom were taking shelter from the rain.

As Du Ruoxia and her two companions entered, they unexpectedly ran into that family again.

“Girl, I see you’re so pretty. It’s almost dawn, so why don’t you give us a room at half price? It’s just sitting empty anyway. This child is all wet. Please do us a favor.”

The older woman kept trying to appeal to the receptionist's emotions, but the receptionist was getting impatient. Du Ruoxia smirked and walked away.

"Give me a room." Du Ruoxia handed over the documents and money.

The girl was quick; she took Du Ruoxia's information, looked at it, registered her, and then gave her the key.

The receptionist looked at the people who were with Du Ruoxia and said, "Those who don't register are not allowed to go up."

Du Ruoxia nodded. "Can they wait here?"

"You can sit on that sofa and wait; our customers can sit there." The girl at the front desk pointed to a small sofa in the corner, which could just accommodate two people.

Just as Du Ruoxia was about to turn around and go upstairs, the old woman said sourly again, "Vixen!"

Du Ruoxia's eyes were cold as she glanced at her and left.

"Grandma, I'm cold." The little boy shook the old woman's hand.

"What are you standing there for? Give us a room right now! The kids are soaking wet. Just pay the price we agreed on!" the old woman shouted at the receptionist.

The young receptionist gave the older woman a cold look and replied with an eye roll, "Hello, the last room was just booked by this young lady."

The old woman's eyes instantly blazed with anger as she glared at Du Ruoxia. "Why did you give my room to that vixen? She brought two men here to book a room! I'm going to report her!"

The old woman became more and more agitated as she spoke, and she walked directly in front of Du Ruoxia, pointing at her. Wang Hu immediately protected her.

"See, I told you they were being shady. They even asked for a separate carriage on the train!"

Du Ruoxia calmly watched her go, seemingly unconcerned even as people outside peered in to see her.

"Auntie, you can't say things like that. Those two men aren't going up. You'll ruin their reputation if you do that," the young receptionist patiently explained to Du Ruoxia.

The onlookers immediately changed their gaze towards the old woman, their eyes filled with resentment. In this era, reputation is of utmost importance.

"How do you know if her people will go up later? Look at her, she has such a seductive face, what else could she be but a bewitching monster!" The old woman pointed at Du Ruoxia as if she wanted to point her right up to her forehead.

Du Ruoxia glanced at the old woman's son, wondering what level this person was and whether she could afford to offend him.

"Auntie, you're saying I'm not happy about this? Even if you have a problem with me, you can't slander me like this. I'm watching people come and go every day!" The receptionist stared at the old woman with a serious expression.

"No, I meant her, not you," the old woman said, waving her hands repeatedly.

The receptionist also changed her attitude towards them, saying, "The rooms are all gone. You'll have to look elsewhere!"

Du Ruoxia smiled. Originally, the girl wanted to speak up for her, since the old woman and the child in her arms were both wet.

"Miss, could you please call the inspection team? Someone here is framing me and trying to ruin my reputation," Du Ruoxia said calmly to the receptionist.

The girl's eyes lit up; she knew the inspection team well!

The inspection team used to come and conduct surprise inspections frequently, so she was very familiar with them. Without saying a word, she made a phone call to explain the situation.
