Chapter 117 How Precious is the Daughter of the Peng Family?
The old lady scoffed and glanced away. "That sounds nice, but I don't know if it's for your own sake or what. My grandson is capable; he can make a name for himself even without relying on him!"
The old man stayed by the old woman's side the whole time, and would occasionally hand her a cup of tea to quench her thirst.
Yang Qiming bent down to take the tea from the old man's hand, but the old man glared at him, and he immediately and quietly withdrew his hand.
“Mother, that’s what they say. He can reach the finish line just by doing this. Why go through all that trouble when he can take a shortcut!”
"He is capable, but do you not know how much effort he has put in to get to where he is today?"
The old lady's eyes flashed when she heard this, and she remembered when Yang Zeyan was injured; her eyes welled up with tears.
The old man spoke up at this moment, "According to you, he should continue to rise in rank. He's already a regimental commander at such a young age. Are you sure he can handle it and that others won't be jealous and try to trip him up?"
"Given the Peng family's background, how far do you think he's from being framed? There's an old saying, 'His merits overshadow his master,' haven't you heard of that?"
Yang Qiming's face stiffened, and he stared blankly at Yang Zhenting.
"Old man, why are you talking to him so much? We don't even know what his ulterior motives are!" the old lady said bluntly.
Yang Qiming looked at his mother with an embarrassed expression. "Mother, where did you hear these rumors? I'm only doing this for Zeyan's own good."
The old lady gave Yang Qiming a cold glance and then ignored him. The old man next to her didn't dare to breathe and kept giving his son meaningful glances.
Receiving a knowing look, Yang Qiming had no choice but to soften his tone, "Mother, please don't be angry. It was my fault. Let's discuss this matter again."
The old lady glared at him. "What's there to discuss? I only accept the wife that Zeyan brought back!"
Yang Qiming was speechless, his face becoming even more embarrassed, unsure of what to say.
"Old man, I told you he just wants your Yang family line to end and is preventing us from having a great-grandchild!" The old lady said angrily to the old man.
"Let's see who dares to make our Yang family line end!" The old man immediately slammed his fist on the table and stood up.
Seeing the two elderly people's headaches, Yang Qiming immediately made an excuse, "Father, Mother, I still have things to take care of, I need to go back to work first!"
Yang Qiming thought that by saying this he could leave the house, but instead he directly triggered the old lady's emotions.
"You unfilial son, you bastard, you worthless scoundrel, I'll beat you to death!" The old lady picked up the feather duster directly from the octagonal table.
She turned around and immediately attacked Yang Qiming, showing no mercy whatsoever.
Yang Qiming didn't react in time and had to endure the pain. The pain made him instinctively dodge, but the old lady accurately predicted the direction he dodged and called out to him again.
"I'll beat you to death, you scumbag, you troublemaker!" The old woman continued to hit him.
When the old man saw his son being beaten, he immediately hid behind a chair. He trembled every time the blows landed on him, and he couldn't bear to look directly at the scene.
"Grandma, calm down, don't strain your back!"
Grandpa Li couldn't help but speak up to remind her, but the old lady wouldn't listen at all.
Yang Qiming ran around in the lobby, and the old lady followed him.
The old man couldn't stand it any longer and glared at Yang Qiming, issuing a dangerous warning: "Yang Qiming, you're not allowed to run! If you hurt your mother, I'll kill you!"
Yang Qiming wouldn't normally get hit if he ran, but after the old man said that, he didn't dare to run anymore, and the old lady would hit him while he was standing still.
Everyone had witnessed the strength of the old lady's blows. Yang Qiming gritted his teeth and endured it. By the time the old lady was tired of hitting him, the feather duster in her hand had broken.
"Phew~ I'm exhausted. You unfilial son, I don't want to see you. Get out!" The old lady leaned on the chair, panting heavily.
Yang Qiming noticed the old lady's rapid breathing and wanted to inquire about her health, but the old man spoke up instead.
"Get out of here now, or you'll drive your mother crazy!"
Ignoring his pain, Yang Qiming left home with regret.
After he left, the old lady kept glancing at the yard until she heard the car start and drive away, at which point she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Little Li, go and see if that unfilial son has left!" the old lady said, panting as she pointed to the door.
"Grandma, have some water, I'll go check on her!" Grandpa Li brought the old lady a glass of water and went out.
He rushed back as fast as he could and exclaimed excitedly, "They're gone!"
"Phew~ Finally, that unfilial son is gone!" the old lady patted her chest and said.
The old man beside him frowned slightly and couldn't help but speak up to explain for Yang Qiming, "He's just busy, but he's not unfilial to us."
With just one simple sentence, the old lady unexpectedly became a hot topic again.
"Yang Zhenting, are you deliberately trying to anger me? Do you think I don't know whether he's filial or not!"
Yang Zhenting immediately stood up from his chair and admitted his mistake, "Yes, yes, he is unfilial!"
Grandpa Li looked at the old man's timid and submissive demeanor with a helpless expression, and silently took a step back.
What followed was another round of scolding for her husband. Grandpa Li sighed silently, thinking that the old lady's energy was probably almost gone. It was another hour later when things quieted down.
"Now we can only try to make your son give up on marrying that daughter of the Peng family. I will absolutely not agree to it. Anyone else is fine, but not her!"
"Just looking at it is so annoying!"
The old lady gave the old man an ultimatum, which gave him a huge headache. He regretted letting his son leave and thought it would have been better to beat him up to deflate his anger!
Unlike the chaos at the Yang family's house, the Peng family's place was eerily quiet.
They lived in the same compound as the Yang family. After returning from the Yang family, the girl who had been pampered ran into her room.
"Ya Rou, what's wrong?" Old Mrs. Peng asked with concern when she saw Peng Ya Rou coming towards her.
However, Peng Yarou did not respond and simply closed the door.
Grandma Peng walked downstairs with a question in her heart. She saw the whole family sitting in the lobby and looked puzzled.
"What's wrong with you all? Why are you all so lifeless?"
But no one responded to her; they all stared at the floor in silence, and the old lady's face immediately darkened.
"Are you all mute? Tell me what happened? What's wrong with Rou'er?" Old Mrs. Peng asked again.
No one responded to the old lady. The Peng family's butler shook his head as he looked at her.
The old lady's face immediately darkened. "Guoqi, you're the one who's talking to me! What's going on? What happened to the Peng family? Everyone looks so lifeless!"
The man who had been protecting Peng Yarou couldn't help but speak up, "Grandma, you be the judge!"
He recounted everything that had happened at the Yang family's residence, including what Yang Zeyan had said. When he got to this point, he slammed his fist on the table in anger.
"That Yang Zeyan is simply outrageous! How could he speak of my sister like that? Our Peng family's daughters are so precious, yet he dared to belittle them like that!"
After listening, the old lady fell into deep thought. After a while, she finally spoke, "Are you sure these words were all said by Yang Zeyan? And not relayed by someone else?"
"And, did Yang Zeyan really bring his wife back?"
