He glanced at her hands again, a little disappointed: "You didn't bring any local specialties to sell? I was going to ask you that."
Qiao Lian'er shook her head: "There are none for sale now, Miss Shi, are you shopping?"
"Alright, bring them to me when you have some for sale."
"Let's go shopping together. I'll buy you some little trinkets. Just tell me what you like," Shi Murou said, grabbing Qiao Lian'er's arm.
She wasn't trying to be nice to Qiao Lian'er. Aside from not disliking the girl, she had always been used to solving problems with money. She felt that the Qiao family couldn't possibly be completely without opinions. If she could appease Qiao Lian'er, the Qiao family would be in a better mood, and there would be less chance that they would cause trouble for her and the Shen family in the future.
Before things inevitably come to that point, it's better to resolve the relationship amicably so that neither side is hurt, rather than risk a complete falling out. She hates worrying and troublesome things the most.
Qiao Lian'er could guess Shi Murou's thoughts, but she was also somewhat moved. No matter what, Shi Murou was going to give her benefits. Since that was the case, she couldn't pretend she hadn't seen what Shen Liang had done.
Do you like this hair accessory and hair tie?
"Wow, this pastry is delicious, you should try it."
"You're so thin and small, how about I buy you this outfit?"
Aside from eating a piece of pastry, Qiao Lian'er refused everything else, treating it as just accompanying Shi Murou on a stroll.
When they got a little tired from shopping, they found a small pavilion to sit down, and Shi Murou took stock of the things she had bought.
"You really are a little girl, you don't understand a girl's love of beauty at all. You don't want any of the things I picked out for you. You'll understand when you grow up a bit."
Shi Murou had her maid bring her the newly bought mirror and tried on things on her head in front of it.
Qiao Lian'er looked at the sun, which was already beginning to sink in the west, and said, "I saw Shen Liang when I came to town."
"You ran into Shen Liang? Did you speak to each other?" Shi Murou asked warily.
She suspected that Qiao Lian'er had come to see Shen Liang, hoping to win him back.
That day, she could tell that Qiao Lian'er's cousin was shy and quiet, and probably too embarrassed to come herself, so she sent her younger sister instead.
Anyway, she would never back down; in Shen Liangxin's heart, she was the only one.
"Why would I talk to him? I'm not here to see him," Qiao Lian'er said indifferently.
"However, I saw him coming out of a snake catcher's house with a snake bag in his hand. Maybe he went to buy snakes so he could make snake soup for Miss Shi himself."
"Sure, snake soup is delicious." Shen Murou's eyes lit up. She felt a sweet warmth as she thought about how Shen Liang would feed her the snake soup spoonful by spoonful that evening.
Then she pouted again: "But now that you've told me about this, the surprise has been greatly diminished."
"What should I do then? Is Miss Shi going to punish me? Then I won't have to tell Miss Shi anything I see Shen Liang doing in the future," Qiao Lian'er joked.
"No, no, you have to tell me everything about him that you can't see, and if you do, you have to come to me. I'll give you a reward," Shi Murou quickly said.
"Here, this is for you, consider it a reward for this." She picked up a silver hairpin and stuffed it into Qiao Lian'er's hand, then immediately remembered, "Oh, I forgot, you haven't come of age yet."
She then replaced it with a small silver hair ornament, which could be inlaid on her hair bun.
Qiao Lian'er felt that it wouldn't be good for her to leave empty-handed after shopping with Shi Murou for so long, in case Shi Murou thought she had ulterior motives.
I accepted this little hair accessory.
She believed that after tonight, Shi Murou's opinion of Shen Liang would change, or rather, a rift would form.
