Qiao Lian'er immediately realized that danger was nearby.
They might just be waiting for them to reach the right position and charge out.
She assessed the terrain and found that the further she went, the narrower the area became. There was a spot where only one carriage could pass at a time. Normally, when two carriages were traveling in opposite directions, one of them would have to move to a wider area.
If someone were there to throw stones at them or launch a sneak attack, they would be thrown into chaos with no way to escape.
Her gaze silently swept over the jungle above.
The southern mountains and forests are lush, with tall trees and low bushes, their branches and leaves overlapping and covering each other. She can't see anyone now, but she can sense countless eyes staring at her and her carriage, like venomous snakes hiding in the shadows.
There must be a lot of people on their side.
Her intuition was right.
Qiao Lian'er's eyes turned cold, and she stopped at that spot, on the side of the hillside.
"Scythe, why did you stop?" Da Meng asked.
Qiao Lian'er whispered, "Get your weapons ready, let's rush up the mountain, to the left slope."
She could sense the danger coming from the hillside on the left, and the oppressive feeling was even stronger from there.
With just that casual remark, the men of the Qiao family immediately knew that they had arrived and that a real battle was about to begin.
They tensed up, not looking around, but pretending to inspect the carriage to avoid arousing the bandits' suspicion, while secretly observing their surroundings.
There are no people in sight yet, but a dangerous atmosphere has somehow appeared in the vicinity.
Qiao Lian'er's eyes darted around, and finally she saw a hand lying on the ground next to a rock on the narrow hillside ahead.
The hand was covered with withered branches and leaves, but it wasn't completely hidden.
It was because it was a little itchy that Qiao Lian'er saw it while one finger was scratching the other.
With this scratch, the things covering it fell off.
Following that hand, we found many large rocks nearby, some with abnormal protrusions, as if they were covering something.
The area where the stones were placed had been cleared down the hillside, and some newly cut shrubs were piled up on the slope.
This makes it easier for the stones to roll down.
These newly cut branches, misaligned and blocking the space, further concealed the location of these people.
It was well hidden.
But I've found you!
A cold smile curled at the corner of Qiao Lian'er's mouth.
The men of the Qiao family leaned out of the carriage. They did not act immediately because they felt that Lian'er might have other instructions.
Rushing to the left slope is too broad; at least a general location should be provided.
If not, choose a place where danger is most likely to exist.
“The location is—” Qiao Lian’er moved her little finger in one direction.
She spoke very softly and quietly, so that only members of the Qiao family could hear her.
"About five zhang."
Following the direction she pointed out, the Qiao family men also noticed that something was extremely wrong there. There were more stones than elsewhere, and they seemed to be movable. There were also newly cut tree branches. They didn't know if it was their imagination, but there were some abnormal protrusions in some places that, upon closer inspection, looked like human shapes.
They're probably just waiting for their carriage to reach the narrowest part of the road, where huge rocks will roll and crush them to death.
To avoid hitting the stone walls on both sides, the carriage had to move slowly and couldn't run. If it tried to run, it would even get stuck.
