Chapter 163 Sign your name, sign it on your sleeve (1/2)

A casual remark, tinged with a hint of sarcasm.

The morning breeze was cool and refreshing, and Qiao Lian'er's words seemed to drift away on the wind.

But the two brothers heard it clearly.

Their eyes widened in surprise.

Then he looked Qiao Lian'er up and down carefully.

The little boy pointed at her and asked, "You? You designed this bridge?"

"Yes, is there a problem?" Qiao Lian'er asked with a smile.

"How is that possible? You're just a country bumpkin who probably can't even read a single word. How could you design bridges? You're kidding me."

The little boy frowned.

"Yes, I'm just trying to fool you, if you think you're a ghost."

Qiao Lian'er looked up at the sky.

“I don’t believe you. You’re just lying. If you really designed this bridge, I’ll walk upside down and walk all the way to the road above it.”

Qiao Lian'er had initially been indifferent to whether he believed it or not, but now that he heard him say this, she became somewhat interested.

"Really? How about we bet another ten taels of silver?"

"It's not just ten taels, I'll give you double, twenty taels."

Seeing how quickly he answered, Qiao Lian'er felt that she hadn't called out enough and regretted it a little.

These two are obviously rich. Sigh, she should have just asked for 100 taels.

"Now I'm even more certain that you're the one who's acting suspiciously. You came here with ulterior motives because you've even resorted to such lies."

The little boy became even more determined.

"Little brother, stop talking." The boy had been observing Qiao Lian'er and was surprised to see the confident air about her that seemed genuine.

He looked at Qiao Lian'er: "Little girl, you say you designed it, but what proof do you have?"

Qiao Lian'er wouldn't normally provide any proof, but now, for twenty taels of silver, she'll make these two believe that the bridge was her idea.

She had originally planned to call the craftsmen, but when she looked down, she saw Zhao Lizheng leading his two brothers up. The project was completed today and Zhao Lizheng was in a good mood. As soon as it was light, he couldn't wait to come and see it.

“Wait here, that’s the village head of our Datian Village. This bridge was built for our Datian Village.”

The sky is now completely clear, and the sun has peeked out from the east, painting the sky with a golden-purple glow, like a light veil adorning the heavens and earth.

Zhao Lizheng and his group walked up against the rosy light and could vaguely see several figures beside the bridge.

Thinking that the craftsmen would be more relaxed today, I was surprised to find myself up so early.

After climbing over the big slope and getting closer, they discovered that there were two unfamiliar teenagers, including Qiao Lian'er.

He was a little puzzled. What were these kids doing here? The way they were looking at him seemed to be waiting for him.

"Good morning, Uncle Zhao." Qiao Lian'er smiled, revealing two rows of white teeth in the morning light.

"Lian'er, you've come here so early."

Zhao Lizheng thought to himself that Qiao Lian'er was probably busy going to the county town, so she came to check on the bridge first thing in the morning.

“Uncle Zhao, those two don’t believe I designed this bridge. They say I’m a fraud. Can you give me some proof?” Qiao Lian’er said.

Zhao Lizheng's face immediately turned serious: "Who doesn't know that you designed this bridge? You personally drew the structure of the bridge in front of so many people in the village. Every stroke must be real. Then I took it to the government for filing and to apply for funding. Do I need to prove that?"

He looked at the two boys, one big and one small.
