"Lian'er, take a rest, you're really exhausted." Qiao Yunni took a handkerchief and wiped the sweat from her forehead, her eyes full of concern.
Qiao Lian'er picked up a corncob and started munching on it. Although she had taken time to eat lunch, constantly moving around had taken a toll on her energy.
Seeing a jar on the stall, she asked, "Mom, what's that?"
"That's spicy kimchi that Lingyin's family pickled. Lingyin came over just now and insisted on bringing this whole jar of spicy kimchi."
"Sigh, this girl just feels that she took too much from us yesterday, and since the carriage ride was free, she has to give us something in return."
"This jar is huge; it's probably all the pickled food we have at home. It's enough for our family to eat for many meals."
Da Yong said, "I just tried a piece, it's delicious, Lian'er, you should try it."
As she spoke, she picked up a few of the tenderest bok choy hearts and brought them over.
Qiao Lian'er tasted it and found it sour and crisp, with a unique aroma due to the use of mustard and ginger.
"Your cooking skills are excellent; it tastes even better than what you buy on the street," Qiao Lian'er said.
"Has Sister Lingyin gone back yet?"
"I don't know, I just put my things down and left." Qiao Yunni said, "Lian'er, is there something you need to see her about?"
"Yeah, I think this kimchi is so delicious, if we made it and sold it, I'm sure a lot of people would buy it."
Qiao Lian'er could tell that the Ling family's living conditions were average. She could tell from the somewhat awkward way the mother and her children accepted the snacks that they rarely bought these kinds of food.
If this becomes a good business, it can still bring about a significant improvement in one's life.
"But renting a stall costs a lot of money. Even stalls in remote streets cost three or four taels a month."
"Mother, I have an idea. I'll go find out if Sister Lingyin is still here."
It's only halfway through the afternoon, so people might still be on the street.
After finishing the corn on the cob, Qiao Lian'er drove the carriage off again.
She didn't have high hopes; if Lingyin had come specifically to deliver the jar, she would go home soon.
The mother and her two children bought so many things yesterday; they won't be buying any more household items for a while.
Therefore, Qiao Lian'er went straight to the city gate to chase after him.
"Lian'er, I'll go with you." Da Yong caught up with him, while letting A Da take over his work.
"Brother Dayong, there's no need. You can stay here and work. I can manage on my own," Qiao Lian'er said deliberately, and still stopped the carriage.
Why does she feel that her older cousin is becoming less and less valuable?
“You’ve been running around working on the house construction, that’s already hard enough. Let me see if there’s anything I can help with.” Da Yong got into the carriage immediately: “Let’s go.”
Qiao Lian'er looked somewhat helpless; after all, she was also helping her older cousin pursue a wife.
Sure enough, at the edge of the city, they saw Lingyin and her younger brother standing by the roadside, trying to stop a carriage. Just then, one of the carriages was stopped by her.
"Sister Lingyin," Qiao Lian'er called out.
Lingyin was about to step onto the carriage when she heard this and stopped, looking at Qiao Lian'er and then at Qiao Dayong.
"Sister Lian'er, what's going on here—?"
Qiao Lian'er pulled her aside: "Sister Lingyin, let me tell you a way to make money."
