The women saw it too, and they all stood up, peering at the carriage with a mixture of anticipation and nervousness.
The carriage stopped in front of everyone. Boss Qiao looked unwell, as if he were carrying a heavy burden.
"Why are you all here?" He seemed to dislike their presence.
“Why ask such a question? Didn’t we come to pick you up? Everyone came this morning and has been waiting until now.” Madam Feng said, looking at the carriage: “I hope the trip went smoothly and everyone is alright.”
"It's all good, but things aren't over yet. We'll be staying in the county for a few more days. You should go back first."
When Qiao Laoda saw that Feng Shi was about to open the carriage door, he jumped down and grabbed her.
The carriage was quiet. Logically, if the men of the Qiao family knew their family had arrived, they should have gotten off the carriage and reunited with their loved ones. But the silence was eerily quiet.
This turned everyone's expectations into anxiety.
Qiao Lian'er looked at Boss Yang: "Uncle Yang, what happened? Have they all come back?"
Yang Laoda looked a little uncomfortable, but he tried to appear relaxed: "They're all in the carriage, they're all back. Just as your uncle said, the escort agency still has things to do in the county town, and they need the men of the Qiao family to stay and handle them."
“If there’s something that needs them, of course they should stay, but we need to ascertain their situation first,” Qiao Yunni said firmly.
"My parents are waiting for me at home; I need to explain things to them."
"Sister, it's alright, we're all fine." Qiao Laosan's voice came from inside the carriage, and it was quite strong.
"Yes, we still need to go into the city, so we won't get off the carriage. It's almost evening now, so you should go home first." It was Qiao Lao Er's voice, but you couldn't make out anything.
But the women of the Qiao family still felt something was wrong.
"Since there's nothing wrong, open the carriage door and let us take a look." Madam Feng pushed away Boss Qiao's hand: "Da Yong, open the door."
There was a few seconds of silence in the carriage. Then, Xiao Meng spoke up from the other carriage: "Auntie, you can all rest assured. Everyone is really fine."
Qiao Lian'er could tell that Xiao Meng's voice sounded like he was forcing it.
"Da Yong, speak to me!" Madam Feng was flustered: "Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Alright, I'm sending you all back. Da Yong is such a big man, do you really think he can't take care of himself?" Boss Qiao frowned, but a hint of sorrow showed in his eyes.
After so many years of marriage, how could Mrs. Feng miss such an expression on his face?
"Dayong, my Dayong!" Madam Feng rushed towards the carriage door, pushing against the frame, but it seemed to be blocked from the inside, and she couldn't open it no matter how hard she tried.
Mrs. Feng burst into tears.
Yang Lao Da and Yang Lao Er exchanged a glance, and both chose to remain silent.
This mainly depends on what Boss Qiao thinks.
But Boss Qiao had asked them not to let their families see what was happening inside the carriage.
"Brother, hurry up and take the picture," Qiao Zhizhi said to Dacheng.
Da Cheng was the one leaning against the door, looking troubled. How could he dare to open the door without his uncle's permission?
When Feng couldn't open the door, she grabbed Qiao Laoda and started beating him. Her fists rained down on him mercilessly, making loud thuds.
"You damned Boss Qiao, Da Yong is my son, and he hasn't even made a sound. I want to see him, but you won't let me. What does this mean? What are you hiding from me?"
Boss Qiao didn't resist. He lowered his head and looked very frustrated. The Qiao family members are all straightforward. How could anyone believe his acting skills when he was trying to lie?
