"If you do not have a token, you are making a false accusation and will be sent to the Jingzhao Yin's office. You are falsely accusing a top scholar, a talent of the country, so your crime will be more serious and you may be punished for life."
A hint of fear flickered in the woman's eyes, but the thought that the token was undoubtedly in Mu Xinghe's arms gave her confidence.
“There is a token, I saw it with my own eyes. If you don’t believe me, search it. Search it in front of so many people. Don’t tamper with it.”
The woman stared intently at Qiao Lian'er's hand.
"Everyone, look carefully." Qiao Lian'er reached into Mu Xinghe's clothes.
She did indeed touch something, something like a handkerchief, and her smile grew even colder before she silently stored it in her spatial storage.
When she withdrew her hand and opened her palm, it was empty; there was nothing there.
"Where did you get this token? I don't have one, young lady. To slander a top scholar's reputation in public with nothing but empty words, you're really being unethical."
"How is this possible?" the woman shouted, rushing to Mu Xinghe and fumbling with his sleeves.
Mu Xinghe frowned, feeling utterly disgusted, but in order to prove his innocence, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and endure it.
"What happened? Where's the handkerchief? I clearly saw a corner of the handkerchief peeking out. Where did it go?" She quickly corrected herself, "I clearly saw a corner of the handkerchief sticking out. Where did it go?"
Unable to find anything in his clothes, she tried to pinch Mu Xinghe's trouser leg. Mu Xinghe, unable to bear it any longer, kicked her away, and she rolled over.
"That's enough. You said the token was hidden in my chest, but I can't find it in my clothes, which proves it doesn't exist."
The crowd was in an uproar. So it really was a false accusation? Some people lowered their heads, feeling guilty for having blindly followed along and hurt the Xie couple.
Some people just want to watch the show; they're only interested in the spectacle and don't care about the truth.
Several others looked flustered and resentful; their carefully laid-back plan had failed just like that.
Mu Xinghe's face was full of anger: "Young lady, I have never seen you before, and I have never done anything to wrong you. Why are you so cruel to me and ruin my family and future?"
The woman collapsed to the ground, as if all her strength had been drained away, muttering, "Failure, it's over, it's all over—"
The thought of enduring torture for the rest of her life made her tremble with fear.
Seeing her like this, everyone was certain that this was a deliberate frame-up, and they couldn't help but sigh in dismay.
A sarcastic voice was heard from the crowd: "It takes two to tango. You say you don't know this girl? Maybe you've forgotten your brief affair and still betrayed her."
Qiao Lian'er found the source of the sound, walked over quickly, raised her hand, and slapped the other person hard across the face.
A resounding "snap!" echoed through the air.
"It takes two to tango. Look at my slap, doesn't it make a sound?"
She ordered, "Drag him here and beat him, just one slap, and see how loud it is."
Her hands were really sore, otherwise, with so much resentment weighing on her chest, she would have insisted on coming herself.
The man tried to run, but there was no way to escape. He was dragged to the center of the crowd by the cavalry, and each of them took turns slapping him.
