Chapter 59 Failed Attempt to Raise Prices (2/2)

Seeing the Qiao family carrying two small jars, one slightly larger than the other, and recalling how the Qiao family had carried large jars when they went to town before, some people couldn't help but sigh that the Qiao family had really made a fortune.

But who can blame them for having the ability to recognize good quality goods?

Mrs. Han was a little surprised that Qiao Lian'er didn't come yesterday, because she had come almost every day before.

When the brother and sister finally arrived carrying the jar, Mrs. Han smiled.

He looked at the jar again: "There's not much stuff in it."

“Yes, Mrs. Han, there are fewer available now. We’ll just have to make the most of what we can each day,” Qiao Lian’er said.

Mrs. Han saw that many villagers were going to the door of each house to sell things in jars.

"What are they selling?" she asked.

"They're the same as ours, but we have a special kind of matsutake mushrooms for sale. If you feel that other kinds aren't enough, you can buy them from them."

Mrs. Han quickly realized a problem: what the Qiao family had found had been discovered by other villagers, and everyone wanted a share.

Therefore, they found fewer.

Although what she wanted most was matsutake mushrooms, she could use other things to win over those of lower status, while giving the matsutake mushrooms to the highest-ranking people.

So she hired a villager.

The family's surname was Wang. The one who came to sell mushrooms was Ma, the wife of Wang Lao Er. When she saw the noble lady waving, she ran over with a smile on her face and her fat body shaking.

"Madam, would you like to buy some local specialties from Datian?"

The villagers discussed it and decided to call this kind of thing a local specialty.

Madam Han told her to put down the basket and open the jar. Sure enough, it contained the things she wanted, and they all looked to be in good condition.

"How much is this per pound?"

Ma was overjoyed: "Not much, just one tael of silver per catty."

Madam Han's expression darkened. Since the Qiao family had shared this information with the villagers, they couldn't possibly not tell them the market prices of these items.

They actually asked for an ounce right off the bat; that's the price of termite mushrooms.

Even so, she remained polite: "I've collected enough. Why don't you try asking around elsewhere?"

He turned and went inside, greeting the three Qiao siblings.

"Oh, Madam, why don't you want it anymore? The price is negotiable." When Madam Ma saw that the noble lady had taken the initiative to ask, she thought she had a chance, so she quoted a higher price. Little did she expect that the lady would say she didn't want it.

She wanted to chase after them, but then two servants came out and looked at her coldly, so she had no choice but to walk away.

"Second Sister-in-law Wang, what you're doing is wrong." The person who followed behind was Qi Lao Er, with a cold face.

“You’re setting the price so high, it’s only going to damage people’s impression of us Datian Village residents. We don’t want the price to drop, but you can’t cheat people like this. We can sell it for around 500 coins, a little more or less is fine, but you’re asking for one or two coins right away. Don’t do this next time.”

Mrs. Ma also regretted it a bit and reluctantly agreed.

After weighing it, Madam Han generously gave nine taels.

She knew that the Qiao family could no longer earn as much money as before.

In truth, she secretly hoped that the Qiao family would earn all that money.

It wasn't just because she had a crush on the girl; she also faced competition from other villagers selling the same things in the alley.

Fortunately, only Qiao Lian'er had termite mushrooms.

Qiao Lian'er was touched. When you do business with someone, there's always a sense of warmth between you. She doesn't take things for free; sometimes she'll round down the price.

"Madam, your glazed tiles are so beautiful." As she walked out of the storeroom, Qiao Lian'er looked up at the tiles and said with envy.

She liked blue bricks and glazed tiles, but the Qiao family was not qualified to use such tiles; they needed a permit.
