Qiao Zhizhi stopped an older woman and asked, "Auntie, what happened? Why are you so surprised?"
The old woman sighed: "Didn't Dongyu say that the peonies had started to bloom? We came to see them together, but what happened? All the peonies have withered. It looks like even the plants can't survive."
Another old woman said, "What's even more frightening is that some of the peonies seem to be bleeding. You can see blood spots on the leaves and the soil. Oh dear, is this some kind of bad omen? I'm afraid I'll have nightmares tonight."
Qiao Zhizhi and Lin Songyan exchanged a glance at this strange occurrence.

Then the group continued discussing as they left.

Beneath her sleeve, her fingers clenched into her palms.
Seeing that she was not afraid at all, Lin Songyan didn't care.
