Chapter 34

Shen Qingli carefully selected a bunch of snow-white lilies, which were her mother's favorite flowers when she was alive.

She held the bouquet gently and walked slowly towards her mother's quiet tombstone.

In the cemetery, the breeze blows gently, carrying a hint of sadness and longing.

She placed the lilies gently in front of the tombstone, and a trace of loneliness flashed in Shen Qingli's eyes.

In the long years since her mother passed away, she never saw her father come to visit her.

In the past, the relationship between my parents was so deep and beautiful, but now, has my father really forgotten everything about my mother?

But now he has a wife and a daughter.

This thought was like a sharp thorn, stinging Shen Qingli's heart.

Shen Qingli took out a handkerchief from her bag. She bent down gently and carefully wiped the dust off the photo on the tombstone, as if she was caressing her mother's gentle face.

"Mom, Xiaoli is here to see you." Her voice was soft and affectionate, as if she was afraid of disturbing her mother's peace in another world.

"How are you doing there? Do you miss me?"

Shen Qingli sat down gently in the open space next to the tombstone, and then she slowly rested her head on the cold tombstone.

At this moment, she closed her eyes, her thoughts drifting, as if time had gone back, and she was still the little girl nestling in her mother's warm embrace, smiling and making noises without any worries.

"Mom, Zhou Yanchen and I are divorced." Shen Qingli's voice trembled slightly, with a hint of bitterness that was difficult to conceal.

"Zhou Yanchen, do you still remember him? He's the boy you saved.

But he didn't recognize me. Maybe time has changed my appearance, or maybe he never remembered me."

Tears welled up in Shen Qingli's eyes. She choked and said, "Mom, if you hadn't saved him, wouldn't there have been all those misfortunes that happened later? Would you not have left me?"

At this moment, the cemetery was silent, with only her low sobs echoing in the wind.

"Mom, I really miss you."

This time, Shen Qingli stayed in the cemetery for a long time before leaving.

As soon as she got back to the car, the phone in her bag rang.

She took out her cell phone from her bag and inadvertently scanned the caller ID. At that moment, her eyes darkened slightly, as if a dark cloud was passing by.

After a brief hesitation, she stretched out her fingertips and gently pressed the answer button, saying in a calm voice, "Hello, what's up?"

"Come back now, I have something to tell you." An unquestionable tone of command came from the other end of the phone.

"I'm busy right now. I'm at work," she tried to use as an excuse.

However, Shen Song's angry voice came from the receiver: "Work, what work? Weiwei just went to your department to look for you, and your colleague said you were suspended."

Shen Qingli was stunned. Did Shen Weiwei go to the hospital to find her?

What is the thought behind this?

"Come back immediately." Shen Song's tone was hard and cold, and he hung up the phone without giving her any room for negotiation.

Shen Qingli slowly put away his phone, his heart full of doubt and uneasiness.

She couldn't guess why they wanted her to go back this time, but she had a feeling that it couldn't be a good thing.

She sat quietly in the car for a while, as if she was gathering up the courage to face them.

After a long time, he started the engine and drove slowly towards Shen's house.

Half an hour later, Shen Qingli arrived at the door of Shen's house.

She did not get out of the car immediately, but sat in it, took a deep breath, tried to adjust her emotions, and tried to make herself look calm.

After her emotions calmed down a little, she opened the car door and walked into the familiar yet strange home with heavy steps.

The moment she stepped into the living room, the scene in front of her made her heart tremble slightly.

She saw Shen Song, Ren Wan and Shen Weiwei sitting on the sofa, talking and laughing. She seemed to be an outsider in such a happy scene.

But the moment she stepped into the door, the cheerful laughter stopped abruptly, as if the mute button was pressed.

Shen Weiwei was the first to break the silence. She looked at Shen Qingli with a smile that seemed warm but was actually fake. She quickly put down the cake in her mouth and spoke in a sweet voice:

"Sister, you're back. It's been a long time since you came back. I thought you had forgotten about this home."

Shen Qingli understood that Shen Weiwei's deliberate words were nothing more than an attempt to discredit her in front of Shen Song and stir up Shen Song's disgust towards her.

In response to this, she just sighed softly in her heart. After all, this kind of drama was not the first time it happened, and she was already accustomed to this kind of unreasonable difficulties and calculations.

As the saying goes, if there is a stepmother, there will be a stepfather.

Shen Qingli used to scoff at this. She firmly believed that the blood relationship would not be easily changed.

However, reality was like a loud slap in the face, shattering her previous beliefs.

As expected, as soon as Shen Weiwei finished speaking, Shen Song frowned and said in a low voice: "Shen Qingli, do you still have this family in your eyes?"

Shen Qingli sneered. Home? This word seemed so ironic in her eyes at this moment.

She looked around. In this seemingly warm living room, no one seemed to welcome her home.

"Father, don't you know whether I have a home or not?" She responded expressionlessly, her voice as calm as dead water.

Shen Song was so angry that his face turned red, veins popped out on his forehead, and he roared in anger: "You came back just to piss me off, right?"

The sound was like a thunderclap, exploding in the living room, and the air seemed to tremble slightly.

Shen Qingli, however, seemed not to hear his roar. She calmly walked to the single sofa beside them, sat down gracefully, looked directly at Shen Song with a calm expression, and responded neither servile nor arrogant:

"You were the one who called me back. You must have felt that I was a nuisance to you. I can leave now."

Her tone was steady, without any fear or retreat, as if she was stating a very ordinary fact.

Seeing this scene, Ren Wan, who was standing by, had a hint of imperceptible cunning in her eyes.

She immediately reached out, gently took Shen Song's arm, shook her head gently, and then put on a seemingly amiable smile on her face, and said softly:

"Qingli, your father misses you because you haven't been home for so long. Don't be angry with him."

Her voice was as gentle as a spring breeze, blowing softly by, but Shen Qingli knew very well that behind this gentleness was a thorn in her side.

Shen Qingli sneered secretly in her heart. She had been with Ren Wan for many years and had long seen through her true nature hidden behind her smile.

Every word and every action of Ren Wan seemed to be trying to reconcile the contradictions, but in fact she was pouring fuel on the fire and making the situation more complicated.

She didn't want to play along with them anymore, so she got straight to the point and asked with a firm gaze, "Just tell me, what am I coming back for?"
