Chapter 9

Shen Qingli drove the car steadily to the hospital parking lot. The surrounding noise seemed to be blocked off by the car windows into another world.

Her eyes fell on the bag on the passenger seat. She reached out and slowly picked up the bag. With trembling fingers, she unzipped the bag and took out the marriage certificate.

This marriage certificate was once a symbol of her full expectations and a promise that she would be able to spend her life with Zhou Yanchen.

But now, when she opened the book, the big words "ID Expired" pierced her eyes like a sharp knife.

A wry smile appeared at the corner of her lips, in that smile there was self-mockery, helplessness, and more importantly, deep sorrow.

These few words were like an insurmountable chasm that completely separated her and Zhou Yanchen into two different worlds.

Memories came flooding back like a tide. When Mr. Zhou asked her what she wanted, she said without hesitation that she wanted to marry Zhou Yanchen.

At that time, her eyes were full of longing and her heart was full of expectations for the future.

She believed that love could be cultivated slowly, and that as long as she worked hard enough, she could enter Zhou Yanchen's heart.

However, reality dealt her a heavy blow. She had never thought that in Zhou Yanchen's eyes, she was so unbearable and that he hated her so deeply.

Now, she chose to let go, return him to himself, and also let herself go.

Shen Qingli sighed softly, put the marriage certificate in her bag, and was about to open the car door and get out when the cell phone in her bag rang at an inopportune time.

She took out her cell phone and saw on the screen that it was Mr. Zhou calling. She felt mixed emotions.

She tried to calm herself down before answering the call, trying to make her voice sound calm and gentle. "Hello, Grandpa."

Soon, Grandpa Zhou's familiar and cordial voice came through the receiver, "Xiao Li, are you free tonight? Come back and have dinner with Grandpa. You haven't been back for a long time."

Shen Qingli's heart suddenly tightened. Why didn't she want to go back to the Zhou family's old house full of warm memories? Why didn't she want to have a meal with her old man again?

However, she is no longer the granddaughter-in-law of the Zhou family. She understands that her identity has changed. If she goes again, it will put everyone in an awkward situation and may also cause unnecessary trouble.

She bit her lip, her voice carrying a hint of hesitation and apology, "Grandpa... maybe he is not free."

"You're busy? You asked Auntie Lan to cook and buy your favorite dishes."

Shen Qingli was sensitive enough to detect the hidden disappointment in Mr. Zhou's words, and felt mixed emotions.

She thought to herself that this time, she should treat it as the last time she would have dinner with her old man.

Tonight, she decided to confess to her grandfather that she had divorced Zhou Yanchen.

"Grandpa, you were supposed to be on duty tonight. In that case, switch shifts with your colleagues and come back for dinner in the evening."

Shen Qingli tried his best to make his voice sound cheerful.

When Mr. Zhou heard this, his eyebrows lit up immediately, "Okay, okay, then let Aunt Lan cook a few more dishes that you like."

That undisguised joy was like a gentle knife, piercing Shen Qingli's heart.

She had seen and remembered the love her grandfather had always shown her, and that was why she felt so guilty at the moment.

"Okay, Grandpa, then I'll hang up first. I'm busy." Shen Qingli tried hard to calm down.

"Okay, come directly after get off work." said Mr. Zhou.

After hanging up the phone, Mr. Zhou looked at the housekeeper Lin Shuwen who was sitting next to him, "Old Lin, is that bastard Zhou Yanchen back?"

Lin Shuwen quickly put down the book in his hand, "Grandpa, it seems that Grandpa is back."

He didn't dare tell his grandfather about the news these two days, for fear that his grandfather would get anxious and angry.

He also didn't understand why his master was so obsessed with Su Xinyao, who looked so scheming, even though Madam Xiao was so kind.

"Call him and ask him to come home for dinner tonight. If he doesn't come back, tell him not to come back to this house." There was unquestionable majesty in Mr. Zhou's tone.

Lin Shuwen nodded quickly and said, "Okay, don't be angry, old man. I'll go call Master right away."

Just as he was about to leave, Mr. Zhou stopped him again, "Don't tell him to call Xiaoli over."

The old man frowned slightly, with a hint of helplessness in his eyes, "Let's see how long this brat can hide."

He and Xiaoli had already obtained their marriage certificate two days ago, but in order to avoid them, he even ran abroad.

This trip is two days.

Come back now and see how he will deal with him tonight.

Lin Shuwen nodded slightly, "Grandpa, then go call Grandpa."

Mr. Zhou waved his hand and said, "Go ahead."

Shen Qingli stayed in the car for a while, took a deep breath, and after sorting out her complicated emotions, she resolutely opened the door and got out of the car. She walked towards the office with firm steps.

As soon as she stepped into the corridor, she noticed something strange and saw a group of people gathered at the door of their office.

A hint of curiosity arose in her heart, and she quickened her pace and walked over.

"What happened?" Shen Qingli's voice was clear and gentle, and could be heard clearly in the slightly noisy corridor.

After hearing this, everyone inside turned around and looked at her.

Immediately afterwards, Huang Shanshan strode towards her with an angry look on her face, her eyes seemed to see through Shen Qingli.

"You still have the nerve to ask what happened?"

Huang Shanshan's voice was sharp and piercing, breaking the original atmosphere of the corridor and making the air around them seem tense.

"Tell us where you go during work hours?"

Huang Shanshan's questions were like a string of cannonballs, not giving Shen Qingli any chance to breathe, "The patient you are in charge of is in critical condition, but you are nowhere to be found."

Shen Qingli's expression suddenly became serious, his brows slightly wrinkled, and a trace of worry flashed in his eyes.

"Who is in critical condition? You should have checked before leaving."

Her voice remained calm, but her heart was surging.

Huang Shanshan had a mocking smile on her face, and the anger in her eyes was even stronger. "The patient in bed 3 just had a massive lung hemorrhage and almost died. I don't know how you examined him."

When Shen Qingli heard the news, her heart tightened suddenly. Without time to think, she immediately turned around and ran towards the ward.

The face of the patient in bed No. 3 appeared in her mind, every detail was so clear, and she was filled with worry about the patient's safety.

However, she had only run a few steps when Huang Shanshan called her back, "What's the point of being anxious now? There will be no one around by the time you get there."

If the director hadn't been here today, that person would have died." Huang Shanshan's words were like a sharp blade, stabbing straight at Shen Qingli.

Chu Xiaoyu stood aside, looking at Shen Qingli anxiously.

Everyone in the office knew that Huang Shanshan and Shen Qingli had never gotten along, and this time Huang Shanshan seized this opportunity, and everyone was worried about Shen Qingli.

Shen Qingli stopped and slowly turned to look at Huang Shanshan, "Even if you made a mistake today, it's not your turn to bark like a mad dog here."
