Chapter 50 Newspaper

“If you have the guts, this person is you; if you don’t…” Yue Lanxing paused, then smiled at Reporter Zhu, a faint, menacing glint in his eyes.

Just when reporter Zhu thought he was going to say that they could only change someone else, Yue Lanxing said instead, "Then let Qingtian Newspaper be merged. Anyway, I want the two newspapers to merge. If you refuse, someone else will agree."

"Huh? This..." Reporter Zhu was greatly shocked. This was practically a direct threat, but it was very effective. "I agree, but what can you offer me?"

"How about using money to bring their people over, having someone to help you solve your problems, and having connections to get high-value news for the newspaper? Would these three things work?" Yue Lanxing leaned back in her chair slightly. These conditions would allow Reporter Zhu to do a lot of things.

As reporter Zhu pondered the feasibility of the matter, Yue Lanxing leaned back in his chair, waiting for his answer. Only Zhao Mutou, sitting next to him, couldn't get a word in edgewise and was simply eating.

"Okay, I promise you. When will the money arrive?" After thinking for a moment, Reporter Zhu finally gritted his teeth and agreed.

Seeing that he had agreed, Yue Lanxing finally showed a satisfied expression. "It will still be in this place in three days. He will give you the money at 3 pm. You have three days to recruit people. If you can't recruit anyone, just find someone else."

Yue Lanxing patted Zhao Mutou on the shoulder, still having Zhao Mutou handle these matters. "And your boss, you go and talk to him about how much to acquire it. Just tell Zhao Mutou directly."

"Okay, I'll take care of it right away." Reporter Zhu knew this was his chance; if he succeeded, everything would be fine, and if he failed, he would simply disappear without a trace.

"It's all or nothing," Reporter Zhu accepted the test. He didn't want to live a mediocre life; the opportunity was right in front of him, and he had to seize it. "I won't bother you any longer," Reporter Zhu stood up, bowed, and took his leave.

"I wish you success." Yue Lanxing smiled and raised his teacup to clink glasses with it in the air. He only stopped smiling once Zhu was out of his sight.

"Hey, you two finally reached an agreement. I'll have his portion then." Zhao Mutou breathed a sigh of relief and took the plate of snacks from in front of reporter Zhu. "You two didn't eat any of this good stuff, it's such a waste."

Yue Lanxing glanced at him, then pushed her plate over as well, "I don't eat outside food."

"Did this person come to you on their own initiative?" Yue Lanxing hadn't found out how Zhao Mutou had contacted Reporter Zhu before she arrived.

Zhao Mutou picked up his cup and took a big gulp of water. "Oh my, what a coincidence! I happened to be walking downstairs from their newspaper office when I overheard him chatting with his colleague. And the best part is, I know the person he's looking for, so I just lent him a hand."

“I cast a wide net for several days. At first, I was targeting the newspaper next door, but it was a mess, and most of the people there weren’t very decent. I was afraid of getting into trouble, so I didn’t contact them. There weren’t many proper reporters at that newspaper; they were mostly writers and novelists. He was the only one with any real talent.”

"We got to know each other after a few visits, and that's how it is." Zhao Mutou briefly explained what happened, then started eating in silence. "Hey, can I take this to go? I'll bring it over for Xiaoxi to try."

Yue Lanxing saw that he ate some himself but didn't forget to bring some back for his girlfriend. No wonder he was able to win her over.

"Okay, go order a little more, two portions. I want one of each kind for my portion." Yue Lanxing took out the money and handed it to him. Zhao Mutou took it, wiped his mouth, and went to find the front desk.

He returned shortly after, placing the change on the table. "You're quite something now, you can just pull out your wallet and pay the bill without even having any left over. But this place is really expensive," Zhao Mutou said as he sat down.

"You keep it, I won't touch it." Yue Lanxing didn't budge. "Hey, really? Now you don't even want to take the money that someone else has touched? What kind of rich life is that? Tsk, are you deliberately giving me money?" Zhao Mutou was first puzzled, then felt that Yue Lanxing was doing it on purpose.

Yue Lanxing glanced at him, finding his idea strange. "You're overthinking it. I'll give you money, not loose change. But do you want to do something for me?"

“Yeah, you wouldn’t be so long-winded, so I’ll just put it away.” Zhao Mutou grabbed the money from the table again. “Hey, aren’t I doing this for you right now? How dedicated am I?”

"I mean, the kind that comes directly under my command. I'm short-handed here, and everyone around me is a colleague, so how can they listen to me? I need to complete a task during this period, and I need someone who can gather information. I need you to come and help me."

Seeing how serious he was, Zhao Mutou wondered if the mission was dangerous. "Did your young lady give you this mission? If it's life-threatening, we won't do it. There's no need to risk our lives."

“There are some things that need to be done, so just tell me if you’ll help or not.” Yue Lanxing said earnestly. He didn’t mention anything else, only asking Zhao Mutou if he would help.

"Help! If I don't help you, who will I help!" Zhao Mutou slammed his fists on the table as if to encourage himself. The loud banging attracted the attention of the waiter. Zhao Mutou then waved to the waiter with a smile, indicating that she didn't need to come over.

"You saved my life, so don't be so polite with me," Zhao Mutou patted his chest to reassure Yue Lanxing.

Yue Lanxing patted him on the shoulder. "I know you're reliable." Then he turned his head and saw the waiter coming over with two boxes of pastries. "Okay, I'll contact you if anything comes up. You won't have to go out looking for work anymore."

"Hello, guests! The dim sum tastes best when it's fresh." The waiter placed two boxes on the table, one large and one small.
