“It has its merits, but the lower half of the boat drawing is a bit like classicism. It’s clear that you’ve studied many styles. Were you drawing sketches last year?” Xu Zhaoyue recalled that when he came over to talk to her, he was holding a pencil.
"Yes, yes, I'm still in the exploratory stage. Come sit down and let's talk." Liu Xuan wanted to get her a stool, but there wasn't one nearby.
Yue Lanxing quickly moved one over from the side. Xu Zhaoyue chatted with Liu Xuan for a while before bringing up the photos, "You can decide your own style. I came here for the photos. Where are they?"
"Oh, here it is." Liu Xuan quickly took out the photo and handed it to Xu Zhaoyue. Xu Zhaoyue took it and saw that it was indeed beautiful, with just the right amount of light and shadow and composition.
Xu Zhaoyue beckoned Yue Lanxing over, "Come here and look, I think this angle looks really good."
Yue Lanxing carefully approached. In the photo, he was looking at the young lady, so his profile was more visible. The young lady's hair covered her face, revealing only a small part of her chin, but the photo still managed to capture the smoothness and flow of her hair.
Xu Zhaoyue was discussing lighting and composition, while Yue Lanxing was wondering why the young lady looked so good in the photos. However, in general, the two of them reached a consensus that the photos were beautiful.
So they took the photo, and Liu Xuan can get another one printed.
“This Liu Xuan shouldn’t be from Shanghai.” Xu Zhaoyue suddenly blurted out while holding the photo. “Hmm? How did Miss figure that out?” Yue Lanxing had no idea what information could lead to such a conclusion.
Xu Zhaoyue showed him the photo, "This color photo is much more difficult to develop. He studied so many different schools of art and was able to study abroad, which must have cost a lot of money."
"With the funds available to him, he should at least have some reputation in Shanghai. You've already gotten to know everyone at the parties you've attended, and I don't recall any family with the surname Liu."
“But it doesn’t matter. We don’t know if we’ll ever see each other again. I hope he’ll be successful in his art.” Xu Zhaoyue took the photo back. “I’ll keep this photo.”
Yue Lanxing watched as the young lady put the photo into her bag. "Okay, I'm going to learn how to grill meat now. What flavor would you like, young lady?"
"Well, anything is fine, but I also want to eat grilled fish, squid, seafood, and stuff like that. You should learn more about it, okay?" Xu Zhaoyue listed the things she wanted to eat, her tone already pleading.
Yue Lanxing looked at her with a smile in her eyes, "Yes, that's fine, leave it to me."
After returning to her room, Xu Zhaoyue couldn't find Xiao Nan, so she went to look for her in the maids' room. However, before she got there, she heard Xiao Nan's voice as she passed by the card room. She arranged for three other maids to follow her, and Xiao Nan was playing cards with them.
